  1. Left Derby VT Monday morning, west to Holland border crossing. Need more snow in that area, crossed at Holland to trail 521. North on 521 very good condition to trail 55, Trail 55 is in very good shape. Picked up 65 in Weedon, mid winter conditions from here. North to 540 and into Thetford mines. trails are in great condition, lots of snow here. For people who were wondering, looks like the Balmoral Hotel is closed. Comfort Inn is easy to get to and nice staff, Headed back Tues morn, COLD, hit -30f just south of Thetford mines. Headed back up Saturday to Riv Du Loup area.

    2018 Jack & Sandi's trips

To everyone else that has been following us, it has been our pleasure to post such great conditions. Some years it is a little thin in December but this year is the best in many. You have to get up here and ride. The forecast for the next seven days is a little milder but with measurable snow almost each day. It will only make the riding better. Until next trip, enjoy the ride. Jack & Sandi

  3. Hi Gutz. Very few people know this but in Groomer's earlier black and white years he was known as Ansel Adams. Jack & Sandi

  4. We left Rockwood Maine this morning, heading to do some riding today in the Chaudieres. We ran 190 miles today and ended up at the new hotel in Tetford mines, LA Cache du Domaine. Very nice accomodations here, and the trails today thru Armstrong, Lac Megantic, Weedon, to Tetford were good for Jan 2.

  5. Another cold one this morning but the sun is shinning. I don't think we have had a clear day since we arrived. There hasn't been any significant snowfall either but the trails are great. Today is our last day so a short ride is in store so we can get organized tonight for the trip home tomorrow. Sandi and I today. SkippyDoo left the other day and the GutZ boys left this morning. Not much showing on the grooming map this morning because of the holiday. Lets take a ride to Bouleauniere. We head out on 83 east smooth it is. Turn right on 368 and there is minimal drifting in the fields. We get to 383 south and I see tire tracks on the road and the trail looks good. This piece of 383 is almost always rough and today it is silky smooth. This crisscrosses the car road back and forth to Bouleauniere. Oops Sandi, thats the road side your on. Oh the road is rougher than the trail. That is a first. We get back on the trail. Much better. This was groomed two days ago according to the grooming map but you would think is was groomed two hours ago. Boy this is smooth. We arrive at Bouleauniere and not a sled in sight. I go up and tug on the door and it is open. There is a lady inside and she said that they are open. We go in and relax with a cup of coffee. We leave Bouleauniere and continue east on 383. A couple of sleds coming at us. First sleds we have seen all morning. We get to the junction with local trail 21 to cut back up to La Baie and there is a sign stating logging activities. The junction is further down 383 from where it was in prior years. We take the local and it is nice. There are a lot of stacks of wood ready to be hauled out but no workers today. A few miles in and we pick up the old junction. Just keep on riding. We join with 83 and turn left. The trail is still fine. We stop at Bec Scie and there are a few sleds here and the cross country skiers. The inside of this place is nice. First time we have been in it since the rebuild. Here is a shaky pic from me. A club sandwich for two and chocolate chaud. We watch a couple of little kids out playing in the snow. It is so easy for them to amuse themselves. Time to head back to the hotel. On our sleds and off we go for one last time. 83 is groomed all the way back to Chicoutimi. Not a big day but a nice relaxing "smooth" ride. It is a good way to end the trip. I turned 6,000 miles on the 850 yesterday so I looked at how many hours on the sled. Wouldn't you know, 200 hours. Hmm, 30 miles per hour average. We are not the fastest and we are not the slowest. I guess we are just a couple of average riders. Where do you want to go on our next trip Sandi? Maybe RDL? Is anybody going to be out there say the weekend of Jan 13th & 14th? Good riding to all and be safe. Jack & Sandi

  14. http://www.coureurdesbois.ca/condition.html Minimal snow in Mt-Laurier area. My bro lives at the Baskatong Reservoir and They have maybe 10-11 inches on the ground. It's brutal cold since Christmas. We need a good snowfall. In the meantime we are in the ''mental toughness'' mode.
