    Thanks!

Hey Everybody It was great riding with everyone this year! Bill, Team DannyDoo, Jack and Sandy, Ray and Lois, The Brits! (Stay on the trail James!), Michigan Rev, Glen, and everyone else that let us ride with them! And those we got to hang with too! JD, NYSkidooInNewHampshire (whole crew) JAK, Shane, Willy, Ed the Butcher, etc.. It was great seeing everyone. Oh and the Staff at the Delta, Michelle, Olivier, Renee, Suzie, the House Keeping Staff, The Maintenance Dude, etc..... I'm sure I;ve forgot someone, but it is not by choice. We will ride again this year but who knows when and where. (Yes, this is a warning, keep your eyes open!) Thank You! Team GutZ

  2. Departed out of the Delta..Made the river crossing @ Saint Charles de Bourget up to the truck stop, over to Mont Vilain and back down to the Delta. Aside from the stretch under the electric towers we didn't feel a bump. Superb conditions. Ice & light rain overnight. Anyone who left their machine outside has to deal with an ice covered machine. Warm temps to drop significantly today. IMG_5592.MOV IMG_5601.MOV IMG_5607.MOV

  4. The news for Wednesday is the Team split up after lunch in Lebel. Dick and Dave opted for the direct route home, while Sam and Steve swing north to Matagami. They covered 410 km over 10/10 trails, ending at the Hotel Matagami. The place is chock full of snow, in what looks like a never-ending winter. As mentioned, Dick and Dave are hurrying back to Mont Laurier. Accordingly, they covered 590 km of trail yesterday in an epic leg from Chibougamau to Pourvoirie LaVerendre. They arrived just after dark, enjoying rock star status among the guests after their marathon ride. https://www.pourvoirielaverendrye.com/ Today Dick and Dave should be back to Mont Laurier by noon. Sam and Steve continuing their extended loop, planning a leisurely 490 km from Matagami through Amos ending east of Senneterre at Pourvoirie Balbuzard. https://www.balbuzard.com/

    Rain rain go away....

I just came back from Beaupre today. The trails will survive. Rode TQ3 yesterday from Quebec City to Beaupre and it was bumped up but had good snow. Freezing rain the whole way. Never got above freezing until this morning. Trail 369 up to L Etape was mint yesterday with tons of snow. The trails will bounce back quickly.

  7. Day 7 Tuesday. The last day of riding. We are going back up to Normandin to pick up my new mitts. Hopefully they will be ready. Jak has decided to come along for the ride and check out Bilodeau. The groomer map shows some good and maybe some not so good. Off we go crossing the 2 bridges. 367 looks good. We turn left onto 93 and this is decent too. We take the local trail up towards Relais du Lac and loop around the lake on 328 to 367. This area I really like and it is not disappointing today. We get to 93 and turn right. This is a different story. The map showed this as not being groomed lately and the trail shows the same. The weekend has put a beating on the trail. The power line after St Monique is rough. We turn left staying on 367 thru Peribonka, still rough. Finally after Relais Vauvert the trail improves. Sandi picks up speed and we are rolling again. Relais Vauvert was closed today so we will have to find another lunch spot. Cruising up 93 we get to the cut off of 373 to Normandin. The relais here is also closed. A lot of the relais seem to have shortened their hours. They aren't open as many days. Maybe not as much traffic and not as many customers to stay open 7 days? We like to stop at the relais if we can and help support them. Most off them you get a good meal at a reasonable price. So we turn left on 373 and buzz into Normandin and Bilodeau. We go inside and I dig out the receipt. The girl behind the counter looks at the receipt and smiles. She doesn't speak English but the smile tells me the mitts are ready. She goes out back and returns with a big bag with my mitts. Oh these look nice. First of all they look huge but fit fine. A nice deep brown color to the beaver fur they picked. There is an extra piece of material across the palm and thumb for wear against the handlebars. Very, very nice. My fingers are going to be happy now. A few more pics of the critters in the store. Another English speaking worker tells us that some of these are used as props in movies. They have a large selection elsewhere. What they have in the store is just a few of the collection. She also says there is a restaurant, Cafe Marcel, just down the street. She says to ride the sleds along the edge of the street. Everybody does it. We take her advice and go have lunch. A good recommendation for lunch. After lunch we head back the way we came, 373, 93, 367. Peribonka and St Monique are still rough. I was hopping a groomer might have been out but not today. After St Monique we turn left on 367 again and this is fine. The rest of the ride back to Jonquiere is very good. About 2 miles from the Delta the freezing rain hits our shields. The wind is really picking up now too. We get in the hotel safe and sound. Thanks for the company today Jak. It was fun day. A really nice trip. It was good to see so many Quebec Rider folks. Wednesday we head back to CT. Is there one more ride left for us this year? Maybe if we can schedule things at home. Be safe and enjoy the trails. Jack & Sandi

  10. Hi Carman Friend just got home from the Gaspe. They stayed at the Grand one night then the next at the CARIBOU at Rivière de Nard, just north of Gaspe. Said it was a really nice spot. 300 km which you won't want to do much more than that on the north shore. Very scenic but also not real fast trail because of the topography. Will be stopping at the look outs which all takes time. At New Richmond the Francis hotel is very nice spot .

  12. No worries, rode to amqui today. The base seems fine. Saw 3 groomers between RDL and Rimouski. Probably 20 sleds all day. We stopped for Mcd s and gas in Mont Joli, no problems. The trail is s little crusty in spots but very rideable. Conditions improved after turning south towards amqui where the 5 splits. Couple guys here at the hotel coming back from the gaspe saying it's very good.....I'll post later on gaspe site. Jeff and Sandy

    Iceman and the Boss man

Back in the saddle. This trip was my the brainchild of my boss. Hey if your boss said “do you want to go to ride in Gaspe 2 days or stay here and work?” (And you like your boss). What would Iceman do? Survey says? I’ll take go riding to Matane for $1000 Alex. You betcha. Well the plan was to leave the shop by 1pm Thursday to make the 5 hour run to Quality Inn in Matane. Well we did pretty good. We left at 2:30. Phone was ringing all morning Thursday, ching ching$$$$$$, so after it quieted down enough we left the other crew to handle things and we pinned the trailer. My sled was already at the shop as we went to get it the day before. Loaded up and off we go direction Matane. Rain all the way after RDL is started mixing and by Mont Joli all snow. Surely it rained during the day a bit but now snow. My boss can drive and we made super time considering conditions 5 hours on the nose. Tanked the truck checked into hotel unloaded sleds and gear and it’s 8pm. Lots of sleds here. I’m putting my gear in the room and getting ready to cover my sled (already locked it). Guy from room next to us comes over and asks me in French if we can park somewhere else cause he has friends coming and they all want to park together. Huh? I want a lear jet and my own cruise ship but I don’t think I’ll ever have those. This guy is wasting his breath. I aint moving. I mean come on. Anyway. I never stayed here but I like it and tge restaurant was good too. Ate in the bar. Bed early at 10:30. I only slept 4 hours the night before as I got home at 6:15 on Valentine’s day. The one year I have actually been with my wife on Valentine’s day. I figured I would take her out for a nice dinner. I get cleaned up and 6:45pm i got my hand on the back door to head out. Yeah no. My phone rings. Never good this time of night. Well its back into work clothes and off to Trois Riveres to a big shopping center there with a blocked sewer. Happy Valentine’s day baby. After doing battle there till 11:30pm. I got home just after midnight. Showered and now need to pack my gear as I need bring everything with me to leave from the shop later today. 1:30 in bed up at 5:30. Back to it. So long story short I owe the lovely lady a nice dinner. Left Matane this morning at 7:30 am. Half an inch of snow here overnight. Follow a group out on the feeder trail gang of six. Go west, Go west yes they go west. We head east for the 595. Boss is on point as I am happy to let him set the pace and I’ll take some practice riding in the snow dust. TQ5 is nice real nice. We roll. He spanks that Grand Touring he got and let me tell you I aint had someone ride a Grand Touring in front of me like that since I caught up to GT Rider and Mrs Gt Rider a few years back. Getting it done. Hammer down. Sweet ride to 595. Seen no sleds so far. Up 595 and its just lovely too. 20 km in see a Moose off the right eating some trees. Bon appetite. Maybe 20 km from La Cache i see another moose, then a group of 4 sleds. More new snow her but only 2” or so. Just a little further is a dead moose. Not even a year old I’d say. Tough to see being the animal lover I am. Not dead long. Looks like it just was sick and froze to death. Bummer. Circle of life my friends. Into La Cache for fuel and a quick break. We got all day to go not far. Met Melissa and Will who work at La Cache for the New Owner. Was another nice lady too. Dee I think but sorry if I got it wrong. Anyway as many of you know, nicely renovated there and clean. Very Vital Stop here, please encourage this new owner. After talking a bit we leave on what my boss and I know as the trail out of here. Well sorry its a goat path this can’t be right. Back we go and now I meet the new owner of La Cache, Josh. We talk a bit and he explains to me the detour due to a bad bridge. No one on QR gave a heads up on that. Wish i knew before. So it 20 km around to the Murdochville trail then back to 595. All good trail less. New snow going down to New Richmond. Just before ski place dead deer in trail. Then real live ones, this area is teaming with them. On down to gas in New Richmond and a arrival Early as planned at Motel Francis. Super trails and great temperature today. Great day of riding. No big miles but it was fun and nice to look around and take in the scenery. Tomorrow back up to Murdochville then MSP to St Anne des Monts. Having a great time with Alain and look forward to riding many more miles together. Until next time......ice out. Trying to transfer photos by wifi to Ipad but my patience is worn out. So have to wait for the photos i took. Yes i stopped and took pictures.

  20. Update: Sam and Steve arrived in Senneterre at 11:20 am after 305 km. Trail from Matagami to Amos was a bit rough but still managed a good pace. From Amos through Barroute to Senneterre was absolutely impeccable. Team is at the local greasy spoon - Steve having clubhouse sandwich, Sam opting for the more modest chicken ceaser salad. On to Balbuzard this afternoon. Dick and Dave enroute to Mont Laurier, currently about one hour or so out of ML.

  21. Many thanks, I think a ski with a little less rocker and a little longer contact behind the saddle/spindle will really help stabilize this sled, and push it a little more toward trail than off trail.

  22. "an embedded reporter on the back seat" Yep, you got it! Again it was a pleasuire to meet you and we will take more time the next shot! Thanks Rick, The worst part of the thaw is already behind and even the snow base is soaken It only slighly pack, maybe 20% and lefting 80% of the snowdepth we had at home. The temps just toggle below zero in the last hour so the damage will be less than I was expected. It will be icy everywhere until dozer work but i expect flying hardpack highway after. A couple inches would be a bonus hoping we will get some in the next days I had a big laught when I read this one, very funny! Yes I am a lucky guy I know it. I hope to get the chance that our path cross over the trail one of these...

  26. The Team arrived last night about 5:00 pm at Hotel Chibougamau. The place is full to bursting with sledders and itinerant workers. Great supper at the house restaurant. 420 km were covered yesterday. Dick and Sam went around the east side of Lac St Jean, the kids took the direct route across the lake, rendez-vousing in La Dore. Trails were 10/10 all the way! It’s off to Lebel sur Quevillion for lunch at the pizza place, then an afternoon run to Matagami! No rain or warm-up here.

    Yep it happened again.

I used to live in Steamboat for a couple years back in the mid 80s, became acclimated after a bit. Well haven't been back for 30 years and took my wife there in 2014. Anyway, hooked up with an old friend who had a couple of old Polaris long tracks and I asked him to take me mtn riding. We went near the Winter Park area and some areas we rode were above the tree line. Completely different riding than here in the East and Canada, way harder! Well after I stuffed it for about the 4th or 5th time around 10,000 feet, I thought I was gonna die. But it was awesome!

  32. Great to finally meet Alain after reading so many reports riding along vicariously (I read that here somewhere). As I was entering the lake near the Vintage snowmobile gathering to return to the chalet to pick up my wife to ride I noticed a flash from a sled approaching me. I immediately recognized the sparkling blue touring sled with the Boivin skid and the 2 riders by their gear from all the reports. It was years before I realized how you managed so many photos and miles at the same time - an embedded reporter on the back seat. I was like a kid chasing a rockstar for an autograph. Had to catch them by the way even 2up. I could see that sled eating up the chop with both of you on it. Hope to meet again with more time. Next time I’ll ride in and buy you guys a round.

  33. Beuatiful report as usual Alain !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! reading it from my bed at Hotel Matagami. We had a 15 day today on a 1-10 scale of riding up here from Valdor. The east side trail 396 was FANTASTIC. Will think of you when we pass by the Amosphere tomorrow. Was at that intersection in the Leverendrye park taking a break yesterday and we talked about you and how we met there. God speed my friend

    Must be a bad dream...

Hi Chris, Awesome...that's why we head North right! I love Valdor...wide, flat and fast with little to no traffic! I've been there a few times and rode those trails. Always stayed at Forestal and did day trips. Friends I used to ride with got out of the sport and I haven't been able to get back for some time. Thanks for the well wishes! It's gonna be fine, things are looking positive. Love the Rush representation...been a fan for years!!! Sorry for posting a requote, I didn't know what I was doing, lol! As I said, I'm a newbie. Have a safe ride!

  35. Day 6 Monday. We say goodbye to Jason and Yushen. They've turned in the rental and are heading back to CT. It was a great 3 day ride with them. The only bad trail was trail 3 last night for 25 miles but it was Sunday afternoon near Quebec City. That is to be expected. Today Sandi and I take off and they groomed trail 3 again last night. It is amazing what they can do with the drag. The trail has set up nicely and we are off. We turn left on 304, the short connector to 369. Turn right on 369 and everything has been groomed. Not much for traffic. It is Monday. Knocking off the miles will pull into L'Etape. Too early for lunch so we top off the tanks and take a 10 minute break. On weekends it is tough to find a seat here. Monday is a different story. We get on 23 north and meet the groomer heading south a few miles before Mont Apica. There are a few sleds at Mont Apica. Time for lunch. No need for gas. We have plenty to make it to the Delta. A nice day albeit on the warm side. The trail is a little soft but plenty of snow. We finish 23 to 368 and over to 83. All of this again is fine. Maybe the groomers are trying to stay ahead of Wednesday's warm up. We pull into the Delta and unload. Another day for the books. Tomorrow we go up to Bilodeau in Normandin to pick up the mitts I ordered. No more cold fingertips for me! Jack & Sandi

  37. Day 3. Awesome stay as always in St Anne des Monts. Hotel Cie and its resto never disappoint. Well we did want to have 2 of the 22oz Cowboy Rib steak. But they had sold out. It is marked on menu that to be sure you get one please give 24hrs advance notice. Next Time for sure. Up early today talked to a guy from south of Boston here with his friends for their first Quebec trip ever. Helped him look over the map and give him a few points not to miss. Told him nothing will compare to this trip after. I think it’s good I did not ride Gaspe as my first trip cause it’d be hard to beat anywhere else. These poor guys had a run in with Police i think near Matane, anyway they had come through New Brunswick and into Quebec, they had bought New Brunswick passes, not knowing they needed another pass for Quebec trails. Costly error of $560 each. Police took them to a Relais to buy passes at the on trail price. On top of that the police took pity I guess and only warned them all to get mirrors as tgey each had none. Lucky there, as I believe if I’m not mistaken that’s another $180 each if he wanted to do that. Law clearly states you must have at least one mirror fixed on machine (on left side). Hand mirror on glove not legal. If you want to use it fine but you can still get a ticket if you got none attached on sled. Anyway they took it well and now they know. Sleds fired up and off we go for the run to Matane and the truck. 7am out the trail we go. Well the clubs definitely got my memo that I was headed west, freshly groomed with not a mark on it all the way into Matane. Absolutely awesome run 2 hrs 5 minutes 135km and top speed for Alain of 161 km fastest he ever seen his Grand Touring run. Great short run and back to Quality Inn and truck just as the big gangs are headed out for their Sunday rides. Loaded sleds got changed in Hotel and down the black trail at 9:30am. Fun ride with the boss man we make a good team. Back to Trois Riveres. Big short week before we fly to Indianapolis Wednesday for the Expo/trade show. Until next time...

  39. Day 5 Sunday. We are going back down to the Four Points. A few snow flurries here at the Delta. We pack up and the four of us are on our way. 83 east and then 368 west. Both in good shape. The snow is getting steadier now. 23 south here we go. A little bit of traffic going with us. At Mont Apica there are a dozen sleds or so. Hot chocolate time and a short break. Back on the 23 and Sandi is rolling along. We see some oncoming traffic as we get closer to L'Etape. Still not bad for a Sunday. At L'Etape we gas up and grab food. The snow is letting up now. A few flurries but not steady like it was. Here we jump on 369 south. Same trail we took earlier to the Four Points. This time as we get near trail 3, I'm debating on 369 or the 304 cutoff and pick up 3 sooner. 369 was really twisty thru Lac Beauport and I know 3 isn't going to be a cream puff on a Sunday afternoon. I roll the dice and opt for 304 to 3. 304 is good and in 4 miles we are at the junction with 3. We get on 3 west and as I thought it is rough. It isn't going to slow Sandi down though. Jason needs to get the rental back by 5:00 and Sandi is going to make sure he isn't late. We stop at the last gas station just before Four Points and fill the sleds up. Another mile and we are in. Plenty of time for Jason. Another good ride except for trail 3. Going 304 to 3 is about 10 miles shorter than 369 to 3 to the Four Points. Even being as rough as 3 was, it is still quicker. Until tomorrow, be safe and happy trails. Jack & Sandi

  41. Day 2 Left New Richmond at 6:55, no breakfast until 7:30 and we were not waiting around. Pas Chaud cet matin. Not warm this morning. Big change from yesterday. TQ5 fresh groom headed toward the 595. Sweet. We pass two 2 ups just as we get on the 595. Bossman Alain is just like me. We follow no one. Downright cold. Frette if you will as we run up to the trail to Murdochville. Big wind here in the Chic Chocs and although the surfacer has just passed from Murdochville to La Cache its still looking not so great. Not terrible but no where near perfect. Still we push on no stopping it’s too windy and cold here. 50km from Murdochville we see first sleds headed toward La Cache. A bit further and 4 more. All good. I take the point now as Alain says go for it. I was not sure about making Murdochville from New Richmond, thinking it woukd be a stretch for me. But into the pum I cruise with 193km on the odo. Fill up and take 34.4 liters. Pretty damn good considering, sure I didn’t drive it like I stole it but was not mlking it either. We were on it. Its now 10:30 in Murdochville had no breakfast and its cold. We go to Motel Copper to visit with Jaques. We eat early lunch talk a little with Jaques and I take Alain to see the snowmobile museum under the Hotel Copper, he was really amazed by the collection and that is just a fraction of what he has. We head back out after saying goodbye and its a bit warmer now. Back to the 597 to head to TQ5 and to Mont St. Pierre. 597 to junction TQ5 tres tres bonne, at the 5 we turn left direction west MSP. Bad, bad, bad, all the way to MSP as Alain put it a “mechant vrai trail des vache” just not good, i have rarely ridden this section ever and found it good. It’s always junk. We bang through and from MSP west it showed fresh groom this morning when i looked before we left. They were not lying, awesome run all the way to St Anne des Monts. Into hotel at 3:30 happy to be here and with just shy of 375 km for today. Big day for Alain and all good. No pictures today as playing with the camera last night trying to get photos to transfer i ran tge battery down and the cold finished it off. Figures as it was a blue sky day all the way through the Chic Chocs and through MSP perfect day to get some good pics and I got none. Oh well. Tomorrow a short run back to the truck in Matane then 5 hours of black trail to the shop in Trois-Rivières. Awesome day. Until next time...

    Mrs Ice Rides Again

Mrs Ice Rides Again. This morning was time to bid farewell to Snohorse as he left the house southbound. Mrs Ice and I are suited up and headed out, 8am departure for a rendezvous with my boss Alain and Josee near the intersection on the river st Maurice. We leave the house on groomed trail, pretty sweet for a Saturday. Same deal through Shawinigan and to the River and to 23. We mee at their house just past the intersection of 23 and 360. Locked and loaded the Mrs is ready and Alain and Josee jump in line and we take 23 toward St. Tite. Still great trail all tge way and we continue onward not alot of traffic so far for Saturday. Up to junction ar 353. Still light traffic our new radios make things much more fun. Working great. 353 to 73. No gas for us i. Rivere Pierre, we continue up 73 to relais Jeanotte. Small break here, with it being full of people. After a short break we push on the 73 is mint into La Tuque. Arriving at Marineau at 2 pm. I decide to take sunshine to Tim’s for a soup and sandwich. Quick stop to get the Jack at the SAQ here as the supply has been depleted by on last weeks run. Gas and supplies and back to Marineau, time for extended happy hour. Feeling no pain as we head off to dinner. 215 Km nice break from last week but lots of fun. The mrs. Is a rider and loves her Apex. Back home tomorrow. Gaspe run Thursday. Leaving Matane with the boss friday to New Richmond then to st anne Des monts. Stay tuned

Next thing we go to leave the restaurant and head up to the schoolhouse and my wife’s sled had the chain case locked up. Uh-oh 2 sleds down, still no problem he loads the 2 sleds up 1 on truck 1 on old army trailer and takes the sleds and the girls to Mont Laurier the next morning while we make a run to the trucks. He didn’t even want to take any money because he had to make a store run (and to see his wife) but we took care of him
