Two uneventful days in a row! Back to the Econolodge in Forestville yesterday. The boys had a fun ride down with new snow on most of the trail. It got increasingly more, the further west they came Trailblazer and I brought the shuttle truck down from a Sept Isle, so definitely an R and R day for us. Ranato, at the hotel had an awesome band at the bar here last night , so we all had to enjoy them into evening after a great dinner. Due to almost everyone here running a somewhat different trip, due to back tracking, Break Dow’s, runs to Mary’s Harbor for some on our flex day , ect. We averaged 1750 miles or .....so as a group. The high miler was F3, ....with somewhere in the range of 2250 for his adventure! We all enjoy these types of adventures Home today to begin dreaming about the next run! Happy Trails RR

Summer / Winter just west of HSP. The TQ3 sign and wood sticks can be seen in the summer. In 2015 we approached a street crossing and there was no trail on the other side. No problem this year. We followed some of the local's tracks to by pass that section. When we found TQ3 it was not groomed. Lots of powder. Not good for two upping. Thank you Warn. This year perfect.

Classic! Glad no serious pain other than in the ear! I can live just fine never making it to Blac Sablon & beyond, but I NEEDS to chow down @ Havre! We turned & burned at Sept Iles due to heavy weather on my last attempt a while ago, but Chez Julie is definitely "on the list".

  5. Rode from Port Cartier to Godbout on Friday. Stayed at the Q'artier Thursday night. Great place people were very Nice . Trails were a mixed bag because of the snow and high wind . Storm Quinn I think . Wonderfull wide open stretches ruined by drifts , Flat light ,poor visibility and high wind! Just goes to show that the region can be very tempermental weather wise. Sun came out later in the day and Godbout area did not receive any snow so it as awesome down there. Loadedd the trailer and headed for home . 700 miles total and both Thundercat and Turbo ran well.

A smooth, uneventful ride in from Havre to Sept Isle yesterday! No breakdowns, the winter storm warning only provided high winds and occasional snow blasts, than sleet, that limited visibility, for a few sections of the trip.. We have three snowmobiles that were disabled during this trip at the Ski doo dealer here, two have been repaired but The 850 with the blown motor is not ready. Infamous Quebec guide Yves will be staying back in Sept Isle waiting for the engine which was delayed by storm related road closures between Baie Comeau and Forestville. That engine issue we found out was due to an oil injection pump failure. The last leg today is onto Forestville, just an inch of new snow here in Sept Isle this am, we suspect that will change as we head west😉 Yours truly has offered to bring the vehicle that Coutter and RR Jr used to catch up with us on the first day, back to Forestville so these two can run that section of trail, as they missed it on the first day due to a suspension failure. Trailblazers sled will be ready at 9 am, It’s a big day , so the gang will head out, I will bring T B in the trailer down and intercept the boys at a road crossing for TB to finish his ride in. An excellent meal last night at Bistro Blanc. Infamous trail guide Yves lined up this location for dinner and treated all of us to various selections of wine! we are trying to broaden RR Jrs taste buds and introduce him to other fine dining experiences 😉 Happy Trails RR

  11. Day 3-. Slept in a little as we only had to make it to RDL. Had to get some oil at the Doo shop for Molly's 850, which I still think is burning a lot of it. I have explained the whole flipper pressure / oil consumption ratio to her several times, but she rolls her eyes and says that all the horsies under her hood need to be fed. I cannot win this discussion. After feeding the horses we take 5 to 591 then 597 to get to the deeper snow. All fresh groomed and great running with many feet of snow up here. Make no mistake about it, it's still full on winter in these hills. Jump on 597 and I remember how long and straight these runs are on this trail. The horses are being fed well here. On to 5 for a short time, then 35. Take some orange trails to finish up journey to the Universal in RDL where the mayor Mike comes out to greet us! Pulled in at 3:30 with 215 miles. Have a great dinner with Mike along with a few bottles of nice vino. Trailblazer, we were thinking about you!

  17. It is an option. This model had a small bar, leather seating for 8 and a wood burning fireplace. There was a odd brass pole in the center which I assume was to help support the roof under snow load. Supposedly stable at speeds up to 60mph

We had dinner last night with Trailblazers cousins Serge, he is an engineer on the Quebec Northshore Labrador railway. A very nic conversation with Serge and a few interesting factoids. The ore train that they run will way 33,000 Tons! When at full capacity it is 1.8 Miles in length and the grade change elevates from sea level to 2600 feet. A very unique railway for sure. Only One person operates this train on the run from Sept Isle to Lab City. We could have talked with him all night about the experiences on this rail line. some pics from their web site

Reflecting upon this ride so far, and BackCountry 603 and I got chuckle this morning to the above comment I made last night. we reflected back to last year and the quote made than: 2017 White Road Lab Loop “Of the 8 sleds that left, we had 4 sleds that made the loop and we're ridden every day, albeit minor repairs. Those sleds were the 3 Freeride 154s and a 146 standard back country.” How soon we forget about last years carnage on that adventure ride! So We are thinking the White Road Gremlins really do exist😉 Onto Sept Isle today, Oh and what is today’s weather🤪 ❄️❄️Warnings❄️❄️ 4:34 AM EST Friday 09 March 2018 🚫🚫Winter storm warning in effect for:🚫🚫 Baie-Trinité area Sept-Îles - Port-Cartier area A major winter storm is expected. As TB implied, this morning it was RR Jrs turn to feed the Gremlins and oh did he feed them well! We were 10 miles out of Harrington harbor 8:30am , when Jr says I got a bad vibration. Now, kind of like yesterday, but this was worse than breaking down in la Tabatierre! We are 100 miles, the short way, from a highway and we are heading west. We do a quick fact gathering session, and determine that if we go into Chevery, grab gear lube, grease and anything else that we can pack that might make this trip easier when the inevitable comes, that’s about the best we can do! We have two 20 wides (aka tow trucks) in inventory and “ one “ has a recently replaced used track. We are in great shape! for what appears to be a drive system issue. we head west for the nearest road. We use “in reach” to contact our central contact, Tom, from Moosehead Lake Maine and give him the facts, we most likely will need a transport once we get to Kegaska to haul this sled to Sept Isle. He is all over this and calls Ruth in Kegaska to get things in motion. We are near 100 miles out so no hurry! RR jr runs 10 miles and says it’s getting bad, well, only 90 to go, but if someone in La Romaine can fix it that’s shorter! We hook the 20 wide with the “new used track” on and send Back country and F3 to get things lined up in Romaine. Trailblazer, with the other “Tow truck”stays back to help if my 20 wide lays down. ..... hours later we roll into Romaine with Jr in tow, a no go here, no parts, lots of natives! and nothing happening here! we unhook JR and say ....run it until it quits , ....he goes 27 miles and the secondary implodes 3 miles out of Kegaska. We rehook on, and drag him into Kegaska, onto a transport and off he goes to Sept Isle. the rest of us made Havre, later than we planned, but the club house coming in, provided spirit lifting refreshments All in a days journey we reflected over spirits how in many previous years we would run thousands of miles on and off trail without incident? Are the sleds getting weaker or....? Is it just the sled Gremlins😉 Happy Trails RR

GT, We truly have been fortunate to have a group that, when assembled, all bring something significant to the table. From riding experience, to working thru adversity and MCIvering things together, to mechanical ability, and GPS and navigational expertise. We all bring something to the table for trip experience. The other noteable, are the people you meet along the way and how they will always help you out! We have found, that especially in these remote villages along the White Road and into Labrador, that the people are caring, kind and helpful. Truly makes the journey a much more enjoyable ride. You find people like Cletus and Jean all along the coast here ....On the White Road! Jean has a very nice breakfast set up for us this morning and than we are off to the. Next Town to see more friends that we have not met yet😉.

Labrador arrival as scheduled for Tuesday lunch time made for a lonely ride up or down I should say as the locals do. This is by far has got to be the craziest thing I've ever done, solo'd La Route Blanche half at night and half in the day. Guess I was in Cains Quest mode. Not far into Lab who do I meet in the trail? RR and crew, we are now reunited once more. In the hotel early and out comes the Captain. Yippy kay yeah. Not much going on here I missed all the action the day before. Today leaving Lab it's a flat light day and stays the same all day, made for some pretty hard visibility. Just outside of Tabatiere we another sled issue 2 fold. RRs Expedition popped a spring and into the track it went, it's a goner, the other F3s Yammy Viper's hanger brackets for the upper wheels are showing signs of cracking and are in need of some welding, off we go to the garage in Tabatiere. I think RR will post more on his carnage at a later time. The day is done and another with out a dull moment, checked in to Harrington Harbour at Jeans B&B, 10 on 10 for this spot, she is by far the best cook we've seen up La Route Blanche yet.

We all celebrated the Team Maine victory today when we got the news in St Augustine. A great lunch there and than we hooked onto the WiFi from the store to get the results. Congratulations Rob, Andrew, Dixon and Scott on a well run race. The entire support team was awesome and a deciding factor in the win! Couldn’t have happened on a better day as it was Robs birthday as well! After that things got interesting again, seems to be a common happening on this trip😉. It started with RR Jr nearly rolling his led just outside of St Augustine, than a very nice stop at the fishing shacks, where we were treated to cod treats and a tour of the ice shacks. Than onto Harrington Harbor. We are making great time and talking about touring La Tabatierre and mutton bay on the way down. Than, just like clock work, the gremlins came out again. Yours truly was cruising along at about 40, when things started to go to pieces in a hurry. I could see parts flying coming out of both sides of the sled and we went from 40 to zero in about 50 feet. This is not gonna be good! , driven clutch, track ? Where are all the flying parts coming from. I walked out into the snow and picked up a piece, and it was a track clip. This really is not good. We are in the absolute worst location to break down on this trip. It’s a boat ride next summer to get this behemoth out of here, if we don’t get parts and wait for it, that could be days! We unwind the track that has the spring arm up through it and has torn a third of the cleats and rods out of it. Put it back on the snow and say let’s see if it will move. It did!, We Limped it in to La Tabatierre, about 10 miles, and found Cletus Gallichon’s garage, he brings the sled in as the track unravels, literally going in the door. He says it doesn’t look good but he has a used track he took out of his sled, it out in the snow bank, do I want to try it? Absolutely, how could this happen? The trail gods are doing a blessing now! Cletis, 603 Backcountry lead the charge, F3 and Yogi are also all over it, they have the track out and Cletis’s Track on, in 1.5 hours. This is pit crew time. We had to feed BC a mood enhancer as he was grease to his armpits, Backcountry does not miss a beat when he is turning wrenches, and the Wiff of Crown only speed things up, Yogi and F3 are right there too. Unbelievable! We roll out at 5 pm, call Jean At Harrington Harbor to let her know we will be a few hours late. Another day of adversity behind us. A great home cooked meal at Jeans boarding house caps the night. Off to Harve tomorrow! Happy Trails RR

    White Road Run

Out operating in three separate groups on Tuesday, the half day country adventure that two time White road veteran Yogi Bear took us on yesterday, we were back to Base camp in Lanse au Clair early afternoon. In addition to running the DC high tension power line that will take the hydro power from the new Dam being built at Muskrat Falls near Goose Bay over to the Island of Newfoundland than into Maritime Canada and on into the US. Yogi did take us thru some scrub land bush riding, a few snow bowls and other “unforeseen” tactical maneuvers on our way back. All fun but the flat light blind riding diminished the joy a bit, as Backcountry 603 noticed when we stopped for lunch at Fast Freddies Burger’s in Lanse au loop, a great dstop for lunch! He had managed to drag down half of the entire forest in this region, all wrapped up in his front end parts. As you can see from all the scenery pics, half the forest is not much😉 ! The snow blindness was only verified by the stories we got from Trailblazers riding partner F3 and Coutter, of Coutters Quality Used Sled Sales on their adventure-to Marys Harbor. They managed to spend an hour in Mary’s Harbor looking for each other as they got separated going into Town. We suspect these two veterans have more to this story than they are telling , but photo evidence does reveal their ability to separate not only from each other but their sleds as well😉 We went to sleep thinking about Trailblazers stories of running the White Road Solo over slobby ,sketchy sea ice in the middle of the night, to his stop for fresh baked muffins , rolls and coffee, bright and early yesterday morning in St Augustine All is well that ends well. Wednesday AM we head back , at “full strength “ again, all eight are back together! Our destination, Harrington Harbor Happy Trails RR

The twins are together now, .....we went out a little bit in the north country this morning and played , the light was very flat so it didn't allow us to cover we wanted to, also gave us real feel for what the racers are running in and than we had a starter issue with RR Jr free ride so decided to run to the dealer to check it out, he had no parts for the 850 so we bought a pull cord handle to make it easier for the line start and than back to meet Trailblazer, on our way back there he was! We are reunited! Back down the white road tomorrow! Frank aka F3, and Coutter made the run to Marys Harbor for lunch, we meet us back here tonight. Happy Trails

Returned from Sept Isles at 4:50pm, decided not to stay another night in Kegashka rather push on up the White Road closer to Lab but this meant doing it solo in the dark. This is what adventures are all about! Called Chevery but no rooms so 40 k further Tete a La Baliene has and so it is but not before getting to the gas in Chevery before they close by 8 pm. Left Kegashka at 5:30 got the gas at 7:20, great! Doing good time but not for long, missed the left turn at the fork for Tete and ended up in Harrington Harbour, boy does the trail look so different at night. Back track 10 k to the fork and I’m in Tete at 9:15. Missed supper grrr and everything is closed. Tomorrows plan get on the trail early and hope to arrive in Lab for noon. I’m very disappointed I wasn’t able to be there to see Team Maine roll in and missing the opportunity to shake Robs hand and give him my support. That’s snowmobiling.

A quick update, we lounged around today getting settled into Lanse and waiting for Rob to check into Lanse in first place. The race is fast paced this year and going well for Team Maine. The support teams are getting run very ragged chasing these fast paced racers around the course. We found the gremlin in the air shock on the expedition today also. It was the pressure control model that had a hairline crack in the housing that was overplayed by a rubber seal. Great diagnosis by the dealer in Lanse au loop. Team 22 leaves at 11:45 tonight for Goose Bay. We will spend tomorrow running some areas in Lab and connect with Trailblazer tomorrow night as he made it to Tete Balene tonight on his rental sled. White Road Run

Found myself getting settled into the local B&B, Auberge La Brion in Kegashka. The owner here is Ruth and after explaining to her the predicament that I’m in she was quickly on the phone looking for solutions. It’s supper time so I go grab a bite to eat, when I return she is still on the phone, god bless her soul. A short while later she’s got some options for me. Option 1 A fella from La Romaine is sledding up to Kegashka in the morning and driving to Sept Isles for supplies, he owns the ski doo repair shop in La Romaine and has agreed to stop at the Auberge to inspect the damages and tell me if they have the parts, if so I’ll need to find someone with a sleigh to drag my sled 60 klms to La Romaine. Option 2 Call BRP in Sept Isles Monday morning for a rental, have it delivered and they return with mine. Seems this is done often up here but not on a regular basis so it is uncertain they would do same day delivery. Option 3 She found someone to drive me to Sept Isles early Monday morning so that I’m there for opening time and have my sled looked at first thing, if they have all the parts, bonus. If not I’ll set myself up with a rental and return same day to Kegashka. Option 1 is put into motion immediately with option 3 as a contingency. So I am in for the night, the next day and night so what do you do to pass time all alone in a small town where everyone you meet knows you’re an outsider. Well you watch a lot of tv cause there’s no cell service and the wifi was in and out mostly out and when it was working it took like 10 minutes to try and send a text after multiple efforts. That gets old real fast so I go for a tour du ville, take in some air, some pics and chat a little with the locals. This is a English speaking town btw. The following day Sunday, Sylvain from La Romaine shows up and has a quick look and tells me they have no parts. They can order them from Sept Isles Monday and have them flown in the next day, apparently there are daily flights here. But that puts me on the trail at the very best Wednesday and by then the boys will be heading back and I would’ve missed out on Labrador. So option 3 is now put into play. Ruth gives Trent a call to confirm and we have agreed for a Monday 4 am pick up. It’s a 5 hour drive from Kegashka to Sept Isles that’s like the same time to drive to RDL from home OMG, BRP opens at 8 and because we’re driving back in time cause Kegashka is one hour ahead that puts us in Sept Isles for 8 am. Stay tuned for an update.

Today we had a nice run down the shore to Lanse Au Claire Labrador. Gorgeous scenery was the topic today. The sled gremlins did not leave us completely today, but it was by no means a show stopper. More on that in a bit. We had four with us today in the group who were able to celebrate the completion of the White road for their first time. Couter, Roadrunner Jr, Infamous Quebec guide Yves and Francois, Trailblazers riding partner! Congratulations gentlemen! Three White road veterans, made their second completion today, Yogi, QRs Back country 603, and yours truly..We are stationed at the Northern lights inn eagerly awaiting the arrival of our Adventure riding mentor, Rob, from Team Maine Racing, who is currently running in a very competitive position for the Cain’s Quest Race. Tomorrow is play day here in Lab for our group as we await the arrival of the Team Maine teams. It also was sled gremlin day for , yours truly , ( everyone gets their turn on this trip lol) as the air ride suspension in the Ski Doo Expedition decided that it did not want to function today. This made for a cautious ride in today as we are running heavy and these trails are not groomed to fcmq standards....by a long shot! However all the lakes and sea ice that you run are a treat, we had to proceed with caution today off the ice with a shock less, spring only suspension. The gremlins will need to be sorted out before we had back down this trail for sure. The next few days will be focused on the race, good friends, good laughs, good wine, good food, a great adventure ride...what else do you need? More updates on the white road run, the conditions, markings and observations on this run vs last year tomorrow Happy Trails RR

Another interesting day for sure, we left Harve, heading to Chevery, with above normal temps and no groomed trails other than the 50 miles to Johan Beetz, after that it was game on and how do you deal with adversity for another day😉 The temps made for sticky snow conditions and while the single track trail after Johan Beetz was broke open it was slow going with bumps😉 Once we hit the white road in Kegaska, it was Saturday, so Highway central. All the locals were out trying to get to the next village to visit. How do you spell “MOGUL”? Yup, it was that way for the next 90 miles. But that is why we like adventures. And yes, just as we leave Kegaska, QR’s infamous Trail blazer senses something wrong, upon further inspection, his rear suspension hangers are broken away from the tunnel. Yes.,, How did we spell MOGULS? Trailblazer suspects what caused this failure immediately. A patch job to get him back to Kegaska, a temporary fairwell, and off we go to Chevery, a touch behind schedule, but still workable. A gorgeous sunset 40 miles out of Chevery, a nice steak dinner and off to Lanse au Claire tomorrow. Story to be continued.......😁

Well today was the one we were looking for, a great run from Sept Isle to Havre St Pierre. The entire leg of this section all had been groomed within the past few days. How could we have lucked out on that! No breakdowns! We made awesome time today on what can be a very time consuming and rigorous ride. A welcomed surprise for sure. The blue sky came out this afternoon and allowed us to lounge around the beaches of Longue point Mingan this afternoon and work on our suntans! Our new recruit from our western run Alex, did a great job leading the pack today, we think he has earned his strips and is getting the nick name RoadRunner JR. 49. Back from a 150 k run, railbed trail is outstanding but all the rest that I rode on I’ll give it a 5 out of 10. The 43 heading west of Mulet through the Parc is an 8 on 10. Still early conditions, we need another dumping to really shape up things. 319 north of the 323 heading to La Minerve is plowed and sanded for logging, I got 2 klms in and thought of Road Runner then reminded myself I got a new set of skis and runners on, u turn back. Also had a little trouble with the visor frosting up on me this morning at -25°C, turns out the visor doesn’t seal too well, time for a new helmet, had to stop at all the Relais’s and feed the stoves. Lakes have a minimum of 10” of ice and are wind swept, after yesterday’s wind our lake is a sea of drifts, soft stuff really cuz there’s really no base, we need a thaw and some rain to help harden up a base. Riopel in Montpellier I can say now it is official closed, not just the parking lot across the street but the hotel as well, sold!
