  1. Friday Feb 8, 2019 @ 8am, 40F, a little heavier then a "soft rain" is falling @ camp in Pittsburg NH. What is one to do? Hhhmmm? Day one of the Grand Prix Ski-Doo de Valcourt located in Valcourt is starting. Phone the venue & am told the rain has ceased, & blue skies are overhead with snow in the forecast for later afternoon. Google says Valcourt is shy of a two hour journey. Passports in hand & off we go. $20 US + - entry fee allows us into a heated suite for the entire day. A fantastic day was spent watching competitive races involving snowmobiles, rubber tired ATV's ,& motorcycles both track & rubber tire. It was my first time attending and will definitely return. If you have not yet experienced it I suggest you do if you enjoy the entertainment described. Racing occurs on both a mogul infield allowing heart stopping air shows or on the oval track that fosters wicked speed. There is rarely down time between races. When they are racing on the infield the crew is prepping the oval track & conversely. Race after race, after race. Exciting ! For those reading this posting in real time the show runs today - Saturday 2/9 & Sunday 2/10. A description of the venue can be reviewed @ www.grandprixvalcourt.com. Google will translate it for you. No regrets here. Fantastic day full of entertainment both on the track and in the vendors tent. Children in tow? Didn't appear to be an issue as there were young & old in attendance. Additionally on site is a family park offering in part tobogganing , bouncy castles etc albeit we didn't venture over to it. Additionally they have a limited assortment of food vendors on site & a heated bathrooms. Stay safe. Paddy O Oval sleds.eml

Day 5- Leave LaSarre still pretty cold -7F and 4” of fresh snow. Head down 93 and cut over to the Western loop. Heading to Duparquette to warm up and get breakfast, no deal both restaurants closed. Continue on to Rouyon Noranda gas up and get some breakfast, trails not too bad so far just some loose snow on top. Take the local cutoff to 83 heading east all groomed up until about 1/2 way to Preissac then gets a little rough and in need of grooming. From there take the local to the Manior des Rapides gas up and take a break, good food nice spot. Continue on the local to 307 for just a short section then back on the local to LaMotte and through to 309. This section of local trail was pretty rough back on the 309 all good again. Took the 309 into Val-D’Or for the night at the Forestel. Been here before great place to stay but the dinner takes way too long call St. Hubert lol

    M&M tour

Day 2 of M&M tours. Woke up to 1/2 inch of ice, covering machines. Took seats off and brought inside then up for breakfast. Machines back together, left at 10 am. Fait chaude Natalie (hot Natalie) had great hospitality once again. 30 km of the 386 was plowed, bank was groomed up nice. Rest of the ride up to Kitcisakik was excellent. Gassed up at the Rez, self psyched up to hit the Fou Fous. On up to Louvicourt for lunch. Girls wanted to get into the "sauce", but we decided to do a little loop. On up 83, to local trail, west to the 313, back down to Val-D'or. Won't mention any names but somebody's wife mad a wrong turn on a VTT trail. Arrived at Forestel just after 4 pm. Trails are in good shape but many trees down across trail. Lots of cowboys in town tonight, going to get out of Dogde early tomorrow morning.

  6. Bombardier coach pulling a small drag drove through the Le Chef parking lot. Update on Kwik Nicks track, losing a lot of lugs, just not made for trail ripping. Up the middle are all fine, its the ones on the edge taking it hard, probably from flexing since there is a lot or track sticking out the side, easy to fold over. Maybe some from tunnel ice too. Big winds at the saw mill, and farm fields...2 videos DB5F85C1-AF5B-4320-9287-255E4AFD9673.MOV A9855403-13E6-43C5-B592-244960CDD4B5.MOV

  7. Day 6 February 8 Woke to ice pellets hitting the motel window in Chapais. Outside it had clearly snowed 3-4” and then a mix of freezing rain and sleet. Big crust on sled covers. Had breakfast and wind kicked up big and now big snow squalls. This is gonna be fun. Up and out early today, yeah right, just kidding. Left at 10:15. Excellent. Wind is howling and there is a good crust on the trail. Flying up in chunks as I head down 93. Few tracks headed west then at Chibougamau trail there are 3 sled tracks headed toward saw mill. Snow tornadoes here and there making visibility not the best. Onward. We top off at Petro Canada right next to trail 93. Quick 20 miles done. Off we go following 3 tracks south. Big wind gusts kicking up lots of snow. All the big snowballs in the trees are falling left and right. Not easy but we get along. Branches and tree tops litter the trail. With yesterday’s tree incident fresh on my mind I a, hesitating a bit to push hard. So far so good we cruise down to the old Relais du Nord and here are the 3 sleds in Front of us taking a break. We pass on by now fresh trail no tracks to follow, really need to read the trail now, with wind fresh snow branches it takes alot of concentration. I got a good crew with me like always so I aint worry bout a thing. Maybe 40 km from sawmill 2 groups headed up. 6 sleds total. We got new tracks to follow now. Makes it a bit easier for sure. Into sawmill at 1pm great time to here. Now a problem, we wait at pump a few minutes, this place looks desserted. Old cafeteria boarded up no one around. Finally Snohorse heads off to search for someone anyone. Finally he calls and says found the guy he is coming to pump the gas. 3$ a liter here boys. All you cheap guys bring your own or prepare to pay up. We lost almost 35 minutes here waiting on gas. Out of Sawmill and down 93 this side we make some time up on first 20km then the wind and whiteouts slow things a bit. We press on. Now we are seeing more trees down lots more. Luckily so far all of them we can get over or around. Closer to end we come across a big one down however the group headed up has cut a bunch of branches so you can limbo under it. We arrive at intersection of 93 and Local orange to Restaurant du Chef. It’s 3pm. Great run awesome time. Even with 35 minutes lost at sawmill. Original plan was to go to St Felicien but it’s too early for that. So we go to get gas at restaurant du chef. Not far up orange trail we got a giant tree blocking whole trail. Time to put the freeride to work. He packs a trail around top of tree through bush. It’s deep here man. I am hesitant to put the Apex off the trail even with it packed. It works out. We get by and go for the gas. After tanking up we decide it’s Dolbeau tonight. We call an audible. Orange trail back to 93. All great less new snow here they obviously had more freezing rain but trails are great. 93 to 373 it’s not where I remember it and where it shows on my gps. Thanks for the intel on that, surely someone has been by here this year, yet no report on new location of trail 373. 373 beautiful and back to 93 and into Auberge Dilligence. No restaurant only for breakfast. Too bad it’s surely been getting quieter here, gonna miss this place. Great day in challenging conditions, fun was had by all. Great trails. Saw 9 other sleds all day. 375km 233 miles Until next time Ice out

Then back on trail I suggest take 369 to L'Tape-(gas) then trail #23 then continue towards Mt Apica (clubhouse) Continue on 23 towards Sag/LSG. Its a great ride!!! Just my suggestion.

We've been on the 322 a few times heading to Point David , depending on the draw down of the reservoir it can be flat and fast or a roller coaster over the ice .

  17. Gutz, Had I been thinking faster, I'd have named the monkey 'More Hair'. The very minor liquid precip yesterday morning did not hurt the riding and conditions at all. Most areas away from RDL picked up a couple inches of snow and all is great. Rode with EddieSkiDoo and SkiDoo420 to breakfast this morning in Squatec. They continued on toward Amqui and I looped around and then went on a loop on the west side of RDL. Very windy and cold. mike

Day 6- Leave Val-D’Or to Louvencourt for breakfast don’t have that kind of time to do the Forestel. Have reservations at Le Classic couldn’t get anything for Saturday anywhere near Rebaska or the outfitters in that area everyone booked solid Saturday gonna be crazy keep right gang! Head down 386 trail to the Reservation trail still exciting with the hills and the way the trail leans to the ditch. Gas at the Reserve and head South trail in pretty good shape the lower half we are running along the road because it’s plowed. In to the Verendrye lodge grab a late lunch and make tracks for Domaine. Trail needs grooming not rough but narrowing up and there is a water hole 25 miles before Domaine on 63. Gas at Domaine and on to Lytton to the Classic. Groomed from the Domaine to LeClassic thankfully C527E3F1-7BDD-4B99-8322-C7B251FC76EC.MOV 506310F5-FAF8-47C9-BD4F-EDA57E4A9FA3.MOV

  25. even older paddle tracks would tear lugs, but nothing like these newer single ply tracks, the tear easier, throw more studs into heat exchangers on trail tracks and in general do not hold up like the old camoplast 1.25 rip saw did. I have 3k on a 1.6 backcountry 850, still looks new, but I take it easy out of the hole, I know it isn't what it use to be...and I am not studding anymore...to many people are loosing heat exchangers...and I know tons of Canadians who never used studs .

  28. If your total trip is three days, and one full day is at the Carnival and maybe roaming Quebec City, I would leave the sleds on the south side of the river and take a taxi to the hotel. Also lots of cash is handy. Unless my credit card is different, transfer fees for using it in Canada are only a few bucks with each use. Not worth getting a new credit card just for a three day trip. I would also recommend getting Canadian cash at your local bank before you leave. Then you won't be stressed trying to find an ATM. Yes, it may cost more locally but not a whole lot. As for the sled ride, Quebec trails are really marked well. New snow with winds is the enemy, as visibility in fields can be close to zero. Get your map at the first club house. Be prepared for a sled breakdown. It happens. Don't try for a long tow. Get to the nearest house or business, have them call a flatbed. Haul the sled back to Jackman, have the rider grab one of the trucks and drive back up. Now you have transportation around Quebec City. Get a good early start. Eight people will take a while to process at the border. Just after the customs window, after you get checked, is restrooms (same building. mike

(Real owner was in room next to mine, so he will obviously thing I stole the monkey from his sled). That monkey on my sled a few days ago was nothing but bad luck. I will be playing 'stuff a monkey' very soon. Monkey just missed a ride to NY this morning.

Day 3 actually Day 4 since we did ride Sunday in the Lanaudiere and Maurice area that I posted in the regional section. Today we left Senneterre and took 93 West. Very cold this morning-16F no restaurant at the Senabi so we head to Barraute for breakfast and a much needed warm up. We continue on 93 to Amos where we top the gas and bump into Iceman at the pumps. After a nice chat we move on and find a warming hut with smoke in the chimney just after the Berry local trail. We warm up and make the final run into LaSarre to the Villa Mon Repos for the night. 93 did not disappoint today was smooth and fast and low traffic. Was cold cold today and with snow starting early afternoon we welcomed an early quit into the hotel at 3:00 and time to relax

Day 2- Freezing rain snow mix Monday night left us with a freezing mist this AM. Cleaned the sleds off and leave about 8:45 heading towards Clova. Trail not groomed last night but still pretty good, the freezing mist is giving all 5 of us problems having to scrape the shields every 30 seconds or so including the 3 Oxygen helmets. Closer to Clova the mist stops we stop there for an early lunch then head to Lake Fallion. Trail is being groomed ahead of us and 1/2 way to Balbuzard we come up behind him. Even after we pass trail not bad just some loose snow on top. Balbuzard is for sure closed there is a cable across the end of the driveway with Ferme signs on. We get to Lake Fallion and gas up. The gas pump broke before our last guy could fill up. They gave him a 3 gallon can and we left for Senneterre. They have plenty of gas at Fallion just a broken pump hopefully it’s fixed by now. Get to Senneterre at 6:00 stay at Senabi for the night.
