  1. That is very good news! The top of the 595 being closed would be devastating for La Cache. The new owners have done an incredible job updating this very important stopping place. I have looked upstairs and in the rooms in the building next door, very clean and welcoming. The workers have been very friendly and bilingual any time I have stopped.

  2. As a side business, my wife and I have a boat canvas shop. Other than new canvas, we get a lot of requests for alterations to an existing canvas. What seems simple to the customer, isn’t quite as simple as it looks in most cases. Besides shortening to the desired length, and re-hemming, snaps need to be removed and replaced, zippers need to be removed, shortened, replaced. Velcro, removed, shortened, replaced. Reinforcements may need to be installed to support the new fastener locations. Since you have Klim bibs, and Klim sports the Gore Tex name, it will need to adhere to whatever standard Gore Tex imposes on Klim to use their name. Not that you want to spend more money on an already expensive set of bibs, I’m just letting you know that there is quite a bit more to it than what most people would think.

Our plan today was to drive to the Roquement and do a shake out ride and test the spare sled we brought as it had recently been in for repairs, we decided to run up to riv Pierre and see if the local trail was open bye chance and make a loop back st raymond club house for a refreshment and than to the Rocque for the night before heading west tomorrow . The conditions are as reported, rideable and typical early conditions. Nice hard base with a dusting of snow last night. Lots of sleds on the 73 today with many locals out, it is very rideable, once of the railbed up to the local trail you will click a few loose rocks once in awhile but still not a show stopper. At the junction of the local trail back was a sign saying trail closed, but a few tracks were heading that way anyway , so we like those types of trails. There were guys running it and in the middle of this trail is a big logging operation that is probably why they have not opened it yet this year. Shortly after the logging camp our back up sled decided to act up and fuel pump issues developed, huh similiar to what was going on during the repair. It happened to be in the worst part of the this trail, but the tow rope comes out and a 12 mile tow back to the rock finished up our day. A fun 55 miles and we look forward to heading north tomorrow with the Gouin reservoir as our destination. The spare will sit in the trailer, tested but failed the test! Leaving from St Raymond is a solid option for sure. Happy trails RR

  6. One last post on this crazy thread. I want to thank ALL OF YOU for following along and commenting. If you enjoyed it as much as I did reading your responses then we all made out good. something no one (except my wife and best friend know) until now is this ride was for and dedicated to Peanut she was our beloved cat that was our baby girl for the last 10.5 years she had chronic asthma and was on hi doses of steroids which finally took their toll on her. We had to put her to sleep less than 24 hrs before I left for this trip. She is (and has been) for years on my “splash” screen on my Garmin GPS. So when I turn it on the first thing I see is “Peanut” We miss you baby girl and will see you again someday. here Peanut in her better days

I was last there in 2017/18 season. Open and gas. It still shows up on via explora/iMotoneige so I’m assuming it is still open. We generally have 6 sometimes 7 guys and end up in one of the cabins. Rustic but comfortable. We have never stayed in the main lodge rooms. Food is good.

  12. You’re an excellent writer Chris. A book might be in your future! So sorry to hear about Peanut. Our little Yorkie also named Peanut passed away last month at 9.5 years succumbing to bladder cancer. My first ride this winter will be a tribute to him. Very hard loosing a pet. Still have 3 dogs & 1 cat to keep us happy.

  14. Did you ever own a Skidoo 1200 in the XS chassis? They put out an extreme amount of heat (but yet your water bottle will still freeze in the glove box) i didnt get a chance to vent it yet and was riding her pretty hard. Plus it was warmer than usual Quebec riding temps. Just trying to cool the young girl down a bit.

  15. I tentatively hope to arrive in RDL this Sunday, January 12th for a two week stay, as long as trails are in full winter dress and the forecast looks promising. The first contest of the RDL season is worth a beer or wine on me. Just be the first to post a 2020 picture taken at the Isle Verti club house at the intersection of Trails #5 & #567. The picture must show you and the older lady that runs the clubhouse, it must be a posed picture, not one where she is unaware of what is happening. I am assuming she will be there for another year. She is an Icon of this club, a most wonderful cook, with a huge sense of humor. I had a near death experience last season asking her for a picture. So get the picture in a polite way and where she is agreeable. Trust me, this will test your charm skills. But the Icon she is, she is deserving a highlight on QuebecRider. (The only caveat is I must be at RDL for you to collect your prize, or if not, donate it to a friend who happens upon RDL while I am there). mike

  18. Well I was out with the GutZ boys and got back late. Good thing is no disaster. This morning I take off heading to the Delta. I'm a little late and the boys are waiting. They were thinking about going up towards Milot. OK. A lot of that area was groomed last night but the Millot trail gets groomed tonight. We are off on 383 to the two bridges. Bumpy. On the other side of the bridges, 93 is still pretty good. Running along thru the scrubby pines. Dust in the air and smiles on our faces. We get to St Ambroise and turn left onto 93. Going past Relais Montangarde I notice a couple of vehicles. It looks like they are getting ready to open for the season. Cruising along on 93 we turn right onto 554. From here on up, the map shows all groomed. We are at Relais des Lacs in no time. We aren't ready for a break with the trails this good. Trail 328 to 554 north. So good. We catch up to a couple of two ups. they slow down and let us by. A quick thank you wave and we are back up to speed. Left thru the blueberry fields and right on 367. We get to the junction at the top of 367 and 373 just before the river. Decision time. Relais Vilain or the truck stop at Milot. Its a little after 11:00. We opt for Relais Vilain. On the river and we are at the relais in a few minutes. We go in and order lunch. The sleds keep rolling in. It's busy today. Always good food here and super friendly wait staff. After lunch, we get back on 367 west. This is one of my favorite rides. When 367 is groomed, it is so much fun. It seems like we are at the junction with 93 in St Monique in a blink of the eye. I've been negligent and forgot to fill up the oil on the 850 today and yesterday and when did I do it last? My low oil light has come on. We aren't that far from DRC in Alma. Lets head there and grab a liter. We turn right on 23, cross the Alma bridge and take local 562. Oh the groomer hasn't been here yet this year. Boy this is tough to take after such a nice ride on 367. I hope that water crossing is frozen because I don't want to u-turn and ride this a second time. We get to the water and yes it is frozen. The ice huts are out, it is staked and they are a lot of tracks. Lets go DRC is only a few miles away. Around the airport and there is DRC. Oh not so good. They are closed. That's right, it is boxing day. Ugh! A quick check of my oil tank and there is still a fair amount of oil. It is just below a quarter of a tank. We can't do anything here. Back on the trail. We stay on 562 and turn left onto 383. This is a little better. We get to Relais Genouille and this is busy. It is now around 4:30. The GutZ brothers decide to take a break here. I give it some thought and tell them I'm going to continue on. I'll run 83 all the way back. I ask them to keep an eye out for me on their way back just in case. We part and off I go. Take it easy Jack. I'm in no hurry. Reasonable speed, conserve my oil. No need to do something dumb. The first part of 83 is rough but the headlights really light up the trail and it is easy to pick the best path over the bumps. As I get closer to the Delta, 83 is deteriorating. This is falling apart. Bumps and more bumps. I take another look at the oil tank and still good. From the Delta to the Sag is the worst section all week. I pull in and park in front of our room. Sandi is there waiting and has a big smile on her face. It's late but I'm back and the sled is fine. A big hug with Sandi and boy does it feel good to sit in a soft chair after trail 83. She is feeling better. She said by noontime the stomach had calmed down. She just put her feet up and relaxed all day. This was a very typical early season ride. Some good trails some bad trails. Enough snow to ride out of the hotel on but as always, a little more snow would make things nicer. The temps were mild, -15 C to 0 C. The trails need some cold temps to let the snow pack really firm up. The snow cover gets soft during the day and gets pushed around. Plan your trips folks. the season is here and there is no time to waste. Our next trip is going to be at RDL starting January 14th. We hope to see Mayor Mike there and a few other QR members. Be safe. Jack & Sandi

    Hotel Central Parent

Assault on owner of Hotel. Severely beaten by a drunk guy out of control. Why the husband did not go with the wife to the bar to handle things baffles me. Why send a woman alone to deal with a guy the waitress was already seeking help with. It does not say what outfitter he tried to set on fire. I was wondering if it was some of the Chalets they rent up there. If I find out more I will post it. https://www.lenouvelliste.ca/actualites/agression-a-parent-la-victime-a-subi-une-operation-a-trois-rivieres-1a91bf8f28b9c20a8a351dff0fdb1ade Assault in Parent: the victim underwent an operation in Trois-Rivières MATTHIEU MAX-GESSLER The Nouvelliste PARENT - The woman injured on the night of Thursday to Friday during an attack at the Parent’s Central Hotel had to undergo a major operation on Friday evening because of her injuries. Sylvie Lachapelle, who is the co-owner of the establishment, would however be out of danger, according to her husband. "She was operated on yesterday (Friday) evening at the Trois-Rivières hospital. She had a fractured skull near the temple, the bone at the bottom of the broken eye and her jaw pulled back. The operation went very well, but it is still in the hospital, "said Ms. Lachapelle's spouse, Jean Dupont. According to the latter, who is also the co-owner of the hotel, a waitress from the hotel bar came to find them, he and his wife, to ask them for help in managing a client. "We were lying at home and the waitress came to find us because she could no longer handle a guy who was threatening to kill people at an outfitter. He had been kicked out because he was too out of control, In the wake, we were watching him because he was a bit noisy. But when he started threatening people, he was out of control, ”says Dupont. Ms. Lachapelle then went to the bar to try to calm the situation. Worried that he wouldn't hear from her, her husband went to see what was going on. "She told me" I'm going to call you to keep you posted, "but since I didn't receive a call, I worried. I went there and found her lying on the floor, covered in blood, "he says. Ms. Lachapelle was then transported by ambulance to La Tuque hospital, before being transferred to Trois-Rivières. Dupont said a waitress was also transported by ambulance after being punched in the back. She also suffered a nervous shock. The man who injured his wife is said to have started a fire in the outfitter from which he had been evicted. "He went to the outfitter and set fire to it," says Dupont. We called two people who came by snowmobile to put out the fire. ” The Sûreté du Québec (SQ) indeed confirms that a fire started in cords of wood adjoining a chalet occupied by ten people, a few minutes after the attack at the Hotel Centrale. The police said Friday that the two incidents could be linked, without specifying further. The police also did not give details of the circumstances surrounding the assault. Two suspects, aged 31 and 41, were arrested and interrogated in the evening on Friday. One of them has been released and will appear in court at a later date. The second appeared by telephone Saturday morning and will appear in person on Monday. The SQ's Major Crimes Division was responsible for investigating the assault. The Central Hotel bar also remained closed from Friday morning to Saturday noon while the investigators did their work.

  21. Same here, our only “child” was a spoiled Cocker Spaniel for 16.5 years, handing her to the vet to be put to rest was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done. Memories keep you smiling though as do smooth trails....
