    Back to Shawinigan

Rolled in today at Reggie’s (Drakkar) and headed out for a ride. Trails were in great shape. A little thinner the more south you go but going east was in great shape. A little warm but still a great ride. Passed a groomer this afternoon on trail 3.

  10. Ha ha ..very true. If we had only known. Summer started riding snowmobiles with me at age 8. Loves the snowmobile, refuses to ride the ATV or HD. If my memory serves me right I put a 1+1 seat on my 2006 MXZ-X 800 while her older sister Taylor inherited my 2000 MXZ 700. Aside from moving up from a 2013 - 600 ACE Renegade & currently running a brand new, out of the box, 2020 900T Summer is a very fortunate young lady for many reasons. One of which, in October 2017, at the age of 20, Summer was in Memorial Sloan Kettering here in Manhattan where she underwent liver resection surgery. Since recovering Summer hasn't missed a beat. Her surgeon states Summer is the poster child for liver resection & wishes everyone could do as well as she did. Needless to say, it is a delight to see Summer so happy on the sled, loving life & wanting to spend time with family while on winter break from her last few months in college.

    Westbound from St Come

Five of us arrived at motel St Come Wednesday afternoon. Trying a new spot to launch from other then Shawinigan being this is a western run. Reasonable place $45 each a night, only draw back the town is shut tight! No food! The owner ended up cooking us a fettuccine Alfredo, awesome! Morning plan is to head to point Le Daived on the baskatong. Out of the gate head in the wrong direction. 40 miles later back on track. Trails pretty woopped around Mt Laurier. Warm temps and traffic taking a toll. Into la point Daived just as it’s getting dark. Beautiful place with a saq! $116 a night for a suite with breakfast and dinner, can’t beat it! Headed towards belle tier in the morning. 230 miles

  13. Four of us drove up from Vermont to Levi yesterday morning for a short 3 day run. Parked trucks at the Normandin and on the sleds around 10:30am. As Jack mentioned, trail has been rerouted leaving the parking lot, but all was good. Took the 75 to the 35 and headed east on the rocket trail, everything groomed recently and in great shape. We are three cats and a Doo, and one of the kitties didn't care for the high MPH pace of the 35 railbed and coughed up a belt just short of the Tourville relais. Spare was installed and away we went, trails as smooth as they come. Took the 557 crossover trail to 5 and continued on all the way to the Universal in RDL where we are roomed next door to none other than Mayor Mikerider himself. Great to see Mike again, and a big shout out to him for offering up his truck in the morning for us to locate a belt for the ailing kitty. Mike is a class act and a great asset to the sport, thank you again! Ended up with 230 miles for the day. This morning, after breakfast and the belt locating mission, we loaded up at a very late 9:30 starting time and headed for Moose Valley. We took 85 to the 44 short cut (Mike's advice) and onto the 544. Every time on this trail is nothing short of amazing! All groomed perfectly with hardly a scratch all the way to 571, then jump on the 35 to Biencourt to top off the fuel before entering New Brunswick. The 135 all the way to Moose Valley had been groomed last night and we were first tracking on most of it, just an incredible run. Lots of fresh moose activity, so beware. Lunch at Moose and then retrace our way back to Quebec. Pulled back into RDL with 245 perfect miles for the day. Will head back to the trucks tomorrow morning and then on the black trail home. Low light last 2 days, so only a few pics. As others have reported, very low traffic, we're not complaining a bit about that.

Day 4 Plan was Amos to Chapis for the night. tq 93 was fantastic! Anywhere from 4-6” of light fluff. Stellar day. Lunch in Lsq where Phil had to bury the sled riding 200 yards to get a qt of oil in the center of town. We where going to stay at the opineska but didn’t have the right rooms for 5. So after a stop at the clubhouse off to chibougamau to Motel Chibougamau for the night 288 miles. 93 south in the morning around the top of the LSJ. Plenty of 60 packs in demarisville! Beaver free as of now!

  15. The return trip from the Universal back to the truck in Levi was just as perfect as the rest of our trip had been. Said our good byes to Mikerider, briefly met SkiDoo420 and hit the throttles a little after 8am . Went to top of the hill, turned right and went through the two tunnels and west we went down to the 559, which tied us into the 5. Definitely less snow the closer you are to the river, but still good going. Stayed on the 5 with plans on crossing over to 35 on the 557 behind Club Belle Pistes, but the groomer had returned from the 5 further west so we stayed the course until the little 1.5 mile orange crossover trail before getting to Club Hiboux de Kamouraska. The 35 had been groomed and as usual was a rocket where miles tick off at crazy pace. Took some fuel at Tourville and continued on. Not long down the track the Kitty decided to cough up another hair-belt, this Cat doesn't care for these speeds. Good thing we had stocked up on spare belts in RDL. After the belt fix we continued on 35 until the 547 North to connect to the 5 again. Same deal, less snow closer to the water, but nothing horrible. Took lunch in Saint Henri, then a short run back to the truck. All in all a super first run North of the border for the year, already looking at the calendar for the next one. Ended up with just shy of 700 miles for just over 2.5 days of riding. Thank you Quebec!

    Is this doable?

I have seen someplace that they are grooming the old trail this year but even if it’s not groomed, unless you really need the gas it’s not worth taking the Southern route, Jackstraw states in the West from St. Come thread they are using the old trail they just went through there yesterday

Jeff , Trailblazer, Iceman, Roadrunner and others, We are planning to go to Sept-iles for sure in a few weeks. We may have time to continue on to Havre Saint Pierre. Assuming good weather is the ride to HSP a great ride vs turning around at Sept-iles and spending a couple days around Mont Valin?

    Is this doable?

I don’t see on the Abitibi-Témiscamingue map or the Via explora maps that they are using the old trail. You can certainly use it. It may or may not be groomed. The last time we went by, it was not. If however you take the short cut trail, and skip gas at LeVendrye (sp), it is 115 miles from kitcisakik to Le Domaine.

  25. Day 3 awesome day today after a late start waiting for the freezing rain to let up. 63 and 83 freshly groomed! Finally out of the twisties of the last 2 days, time to open er up! Plan was Matagami but wasn’t going to happen with the weather and late start. Rain changed to snow an hour north. Low traffic which was great otherwise trails wouldn’t hold up with these crazy warm temps. Into the Amosphere in Amos for the night. 225 miles Looks to be the direction of Chapais tomorrow. 0 pics with the weather

    Lac St Jean Nightmare!

Speaking from experience when we 1st came to Quebec 16 years ago I think we were very lucky our guide who became a personal friend gave us a 30 odd page photo copy of do's n don'ts the night before we went on a 3 night tour de lac and then we had a day riding around st felicien after induction on the sleds n doing loops around the car park of the hotel du jardin we still had a lot to learn n did things I now know are a no no on the trails. ( which I now apologise for on a frequent basis lol ) i feel as a tour group of 16 we were very very lucky. We loved it so much we came back on the tour the following year with a girl I met who is now my wife... I shall be for every great full to Jean-claude leduc who has sadly passed away several years ago.

Tadoussac/Baie Comeau...…..Baie Comeau/Sept Isles...…..Sept Isles/Havre St. Pierre 3 days up and 3 days back all very doable, if you want to add on a bonus ride you could ride to the end of the 3 in Baie Johan Beetz and back to Havre for an extra day. Good luck and tell us how it went.

  33. Here’s is first....we left Parent yesterday morning and headed to Clova for breakfast. Chatted a bit with Dominic and headed down the trail that goes down to Le Fer Cheval. This is not a federation trail and not on the map. Dominic said groomer left at 7 that morning heading south to where he turns around about 25-30 miles. Also said another groomer came up yesterday from the south to where they meet at a small River and bridge they both can’t cross. Approximately 4-5 miles from the bridge the groomer guy was broke down in a corner (trouble with hitch pin, bracket and hydraulic hose that is gonna require some serious repair). He satellite phoned Dominic already so all good. Approximately 2.5 miles from his spot heading south we are bogeying down the trail and a tree was across the trail. As we stop a beaver jumps up from behind it in the middle of the trail. He scurried off but not before finishing up knawing the branch he was working on and dragged it off into the bush with him. As we were sawing the tree up to get it out of the way we looked over to see he had another 2-3 chewed ready to drop too. Just when you think you have seen it all. Another 2.5 miles south of the beaver is where the other groomer turned around from his passage. The next 30-40 miles down to Cheval area was not only double wide groomed with no tracks but one of the most insane logging road trails we both have ever ridden. It Rivals the Kanawata/Casey run and the Chibougamau/Mistissini run for sure. Absolutely insane trail and ride.

Not to be all corny about "the adventure" but you know, with zero-drama riders even a black trail rescue is WAY better than a terrific day at work, and with the right refreshments can even be fun.

I'd break the group up into 2 groups. That will help with fuel stop delays.

    Is this doable?

Very doable, I’ve ridden from Motel Godard between L'Annociation and St.Veronique on 2 occasions with a group of 6 and a group of 8 up to the Forestel. 300+ miles. Our departure times were between 8:30 and 9 am. Plan your mileage to run your tank down as far as you can before refueling, regroup breaks only, skip lunch, increase your moving average speed and you’ll be fine.

  39. Ice you are 100% correct, I think a sign on both sides of this by-pass needs to make this very clear. If in fact everyone can abide by these rules, it will certainly help in the future, if people break the rules, it would certainly set a precedent down the road, that we a whole community cannot be trusted. It is up to everyone to behave!!

  43. My sled arrived at Hospital Moto Thibault at 11am. Surgery began at 1:30pm. The patient is out of danger and has been stabilized, no permanent damage. She is awaiting a transplant. Should be released Monday. Leaking from reservoir where radiator cap seals on it. Awaiting new reservoir and will put new radiator cap. No damage to motor.
