    12 day ride 4198km

Got home yesterday from a 12 day 4198 km ride. Left from home In Riverview NB and rode to Chibougamau, Senneterre 100 Lacs. Ran into Dan the Skidoo again in Chapais as well as Snowmater 2112 and met neksleder in Quebec City. Temps ranged from plus 3 to minus 33! For the most part excellent conditions lowest snow cover is north of Lac St Jean for a short area near La Dore and most areas have several feet!!!

  2. Here is the 300 miles loop we did from home yesterday, Saturday February 15, 2020 It is one of our classics that we do every season, many miles but easy to do because there are many fast segments. Yesterday conditions were also ideal: cold to have beautiful solid trails that last all day (-22C at 8:15 when we started) and good visibility to be able to ride easily. In addition being able to do it directly from home: we are blessed! We did it starting with the southside. As expected most of the trails were freshly groomed Here in St-Barthelemy area, we even passed the dozer which was finishing his run Its a good temperature indicator when you see the snow dust staying in the air like that... When we make this ride, we always cut between #3 and #63 near Louiseville on #350 trail , it's more direct. As long as the little Rivière du Loup is good which was the case: solid and marked The only problem at these temperatures is my gopro that I can't keep alive, it keep shutting off itself. I had to turn it back on maybe 12th time just to get there so I finally give up and left it off. Here St-Barnabé sector. Here west of St-Etienne des Grès after the stretch from the above pic, we had to turn left at the junction to follow #3 trail and there is this clown face stuck to a tree ??? there are several of them in different places in this sector that have been there for years ... I had always wonder what was the meaning ??? After refueling, we cross the St-Maurice near the Gabelle dam. The last storm having left alot snow last week, the river is a bit bumpy but it's not bad East of St-Maurice river, pleasant surprise: #3 trail was mint! We got on the St-Maurice river in Grand-Mère (trail M19) We then went straight at #23 trail junction to continue on the river Be careful to follow the stake trail, it's a clear water spot on the left! The trail is well marked and it's impossible to miss it, just follow the safe route.. The river trail was a bit bumpy but is still rideable at a good pace. The scenery is as beautiful as ever Here the little trail as we got out from the river and pass under the #155 car road bridge Then back to perfects conditions The conditions were so good that we arrived at Marineau at Rivière Mattawin for lunch at 12:10 with 130 miles on the dreammeter We shared there a good lunch with Cobra from here on QR that was starting his vacation alone in the area. I was knowing him from the many messages we had exchange in the past about the conditions and more, and the timing was good so we hook up there for some riding together after our meal. The #360 was nice and fast with his as always superb views. Given the nice trail conditions, we chose to expand the ride a bit by looping on the M20 trail. This trail had never deceived us and was even nicer this time. The picture do not do justice to how good it is to do this stretch a beautiful large glacier on the mountainside, outstanding when the sun shine Good luck for trying to respect this sign!!! The last 20% of the length is a little slower but so beautiful We took a break at the #345 junction and we then continued south We took another break at the Taureau reservoir dam. It was just 3:45 pm and it was going so well that for a moment I had considered looping around the reservoir on the #360 and pass through St-Michel des Saints but by doing a quick calculation, we already had a 300 miles ride with the initial plan so I decided to be reasonable and keep it more relaxed. Big thank you to Cobra for one of the very few pic where we are both Kristine and me on it And another one of Cobra and me We then crossed the dam and continued south. This red renegade have a darn nice look! We met a dozer who was starting his run very close to the Cabanon where I stopped to refuel. We then continued on the #23 south of the Cabanon where we passed this other dozer which was doing his south loop We arrived at Réal Massé around 5:15 pm to taste a good vegetable soup and have a last good chat with Cobra. With my bad frenglish and the limited Kristine's 4 english words vocabulary, he had a good challenge but when people sharing the same passion meet, it all go well and we had a very good time together (for us at least 😂). Beside being a gentleman, Cobra is a very good experimented rider and we consider ourself lucky to had the chance to share a ride with him. We left around 6:15 pm in home direction. The trail conditions were still good even in the evening on this cold day and we've been home a little before 8:00 p.m. with 309 miles on the dreameter, the smile still from ear to ear from this very nice ride. In summary, the conditions are at their top right now, can't ask for better. Hopefully mother nature cooperate and the winter conditions continue so that we can still enjoy it for a while! 3. Had a pretty nice trip to the Gaspe Peninsula. Three of us left Southern NH/Maine on 8 February, and drove to, and launched from Wilderness Pine Campground in Monticello, Maine. We stayed in Fort Kent, Maine that night.. Day two started with sled trouble. We got a late start, and encountered some trail breaking conditions on our way to Degelis, Quebec, and picked up our fourth guy. Stayed in Rimouski, Quebec. Day three started with more sled trouble, short Day to Matane. By day four we figured out what seemed like a non charging/dead battery issue, was really a bad starter issue. Started the sled the rest of the week with a rope wrapped around the clutch, sans the plastic clip used to hold the rope onto the clutch. We toured the entire Peninsula clockwise staying in Mont Saint Pierre, Perce, Carleton, and back to Rimouski. The last day we rode to Degelis, dropped our friend at his truck, and continued to Maine via New Brunswick. I planned on buying a day pass at the Quebec/New Brunswick border where there used to be a check point in past years. It is not there anymore. At a road crossing, we were met by FOUR Provincial Policeman, who very politely wasted about 30 minutes of our long day and gave us each a $172.50 fine for no trail pass. No pass is no pass, I should have planned better. However New Brunswick, your way of treating tourist has been duly noted. My tourism dollars will certainly be spent elsewhere in the future.New Brunswick must enjoy a very low crime rate... Made it back to Monticello without incident where George at Wilderness Pines had a warm cabin waiting for us after a 275 mile day.1500 miles total for the trip. Overall great trip, and great trails. Only encountered bad trails between Gaspe and Perce on Wednesday. The trail out of Perce was groomed and nice when we left Thursday Morning. some photos below. Le tour de la Gaspésie 2020

  5. Mundles Towing offer a service with Tilt Decks to get you across the river from Campbelltown to Pointe a la Croix. The Interprovincial on the Quebec side is very snowmobile friendly and newly upgraded.

  7. Roland Spence & fils Ski-Doo dealership, Jonquière -Thursday, February 12, 2020, @ 445pm 15 minutes before closing I roll in by sled with a frozen shield on my BVS2. The salesperson named Rob is all too happy to assist with my purchase & agrees to swap out the old shield with a new one as he said no problem, it will only take ten minutes. I feel a sigh of relief & suspect the Canadian hospitality I have experienced year after year has once again come through. As Rob prepares to assist, a person Rob identified as his boss interrupts. Rob & he speak in French. Rob turns to me and apologizes. Rob explains his boss will not allow him to swap the shield. Rob said the boss suggested I return Monday as the woman who normally swaps out the shields will be working. I ask Rob to ask his boss to reconsider as I am on a saddlebag trip & the following day forecast was forecasted to be -15F. I add that this is not my first visit as I have made several purchases for many consecutive years from Roland Spence & fils. Rob speaks with his boss and Rob says his boss says no. I contemplate strapping the shield to my bag, returning to the hotel and replacing the shield with sufficient lighting & out of the poor weather but I know through experience the shields are fragile so I chose not too. Subsequently, I leave with a non-functioning shield, a forty-mile round trip journey from Centre de Congres & Hotel La Sagueneenne and no progress. The following morning myself & three colleagues travel from the hotel by taxi to IMPERIUM Ski-Doo located in Chicoutimi. Thankfully the sales team could not have been more helpful - true Canadian hospitality. Minutes later the four of us depart after happily dropping $1000+CAD on an assortment of clothing & accessories all of which are currently marked down 25%. Most importantly, my helmet was fixed. Kudos to the staff @ IMPERIUM Ski-Doo. I am very grateful to each of you that assisted the four of us. I will return. As for the sales staff @ Roland Spence & fils, I'm sorry you have a boss as inconsiderate & uncompassionate as he was. Rob was a professional. Rob's boss, not so much. If the owner and or a person of authority from Roland Spence & fils wants to reach out to me please do so. Thank you. Paddy O'Reilly CC Google review Facebook Quebec Rider

  10. Sorry to hear that JG. Hopefully your club realizes what they are losing. Your a true ambassador to the sport and your region. Hopefully they will consider getting you that new groomer with the proper safety equipment to make your runs safe and tolerable. I know deep down you love what you do and will miss being out on the trail. Hopefully it works out for you whichever direction you choose. best of luck!!!

    Val-dor to Mount Laurier

Assume you are going out 83 to 386 south to 63 west. Cutting 63 on 322 back to 63/13 into Mont Laurier? Fueled up in Val d Or you will easily make it to Kiticiasik (sp?). Fuel up. From there, If you can run 115 miles without issue, you can make LeDomaine for fuel if you take the short cut that keeps you from dropping down the LeVerendrye. From there you can make Mont Laurier. If you can’t make the 115 miles from Kiticiasik to LeDomaine, you will need to drop down to LeVerendrye to top off. It’s about 292 miles from the Forestel to the Comfort Inn in Mont Laurier. If you can take advantage of the groomed shortcut, it about 268 miles.

  13. JG, From a selfish side that I'd like to think I do not have this a sad day for all of us who you brought great smiles too daily. We can only hope the boss approaches you with an offer in hand, no promises, that you can not refuse & is satisfactory to your liking. However, I firmly believe you must take care of yourself first and no matter how good the offer is if it is affecting your well being then I support your decision to call it quits. I am often asked when I am going to pull the pin as I have been doing what I do best for a fairly long time, with great satisfaction not only for myself but for others. In return, I respond by repeating what was told to me for many years with persons who have more time then I, "I will know when the time has come". If it is no longer enjoyable you know it best when its time to call it quits. So this evening Ginny & I will raise a glass of rouge at dinner in your honor, thanking you for what you did for the sport, the recognition you brought to the Gaspesie region, wishing you good health in the days coming and hoping the boss comes to you with an offer in hand, and with a clear mind focusing on what is best for JG you give careful consideration to the offer. Thank you, Ginny & Paddy O

    Oxygen Helmets

Purchased my Oxygen helmet this past fall. Went on my season opener six day saddle bag tour. Riding temps ranged from +20 F to -20 F . Over all very pleased with helmet. Just some learning curves to adjust shield temp and crack open shield for small periods of time especially when stopped on trail to rest and then back on the move. Getting use to the magnetic wire hook up say when you stop in A Relais . My experience was to take the magnet end of helmet and clip to jacket were I have the remote temp settings attached.

  15. Jean-guy, Groomer operators are the unsung heroes of snowmobiling. I’ve always thought it can’t be a fun job, especially the all night grooming, cold, loneliness then equipment problems to deal with during difficult weather conditions. Ran equipment all my life and it is extremely frustrating dealing with tired machinery or trying to complete a job with equipment that is not up to the challenge. Step back, take some time for yourself. There will be brighter sun rises and happier trails in your future.
