  1. So.....tomorrow we head for home. Sandy really likes her 137. We both love our oxygen helmets. We rode 9893 km or 6147 miles. No exciting stories or drama but we had a great time. We enjoyed visiting with the many Quebec Riders. I think I like retirement. I hope everyone finishes the year safely. Jeff and Sandy

  2. Hi, thought I would make a last post. I've posted bits and pieces of our winter, but thought I would fill in some blanks. First of all, I RETIRED, jan. 4th 2020. I always dreamt about a snowmobile trip when I didn't have to go home to go back to work. This was it. Our plan was to ride when we wanted to, stay in when we wanted to, saddlebag and day ride when we wanted to. Ride with limited far out reservations. As storms approach, find a place we like, relax, wait for the groomers or you to break the drifts. We started at the Delta on jan 21st. We day rode for several days getting used to new sleds and helmets. Sandy went to her first 137 after always riding 120s. Then we headed out, went around the lake to St. Felician, Chibougamau, Senneterre, Rouyn Noranda, New Liskeard ont, North Bay, Pembroke, Mt Laurier, Sainte Emelie de L'energie, Quebec city and back to the Delta. Pic from Lake Temiscaming, crossing into Ontario around New Lisk. Pic of RR trestle south of Pembroke leading back into Quebec

  3. Ok back at the Delta, relaxed some and rode with many friends. Stayed for a little over a week. Helmeted pics only to protect identifies. I can say 3 countries were represented. Had a very good time.

  4. Now on the south shore we spent a night in matane again, the the day of the storm just rode to mont joli for the night, then RDL, then Bernieres for 3 nights to avoid some rain and one day for a cab into the city. Then we took the shuttle across and rode to la tuque and then back to the delta.

  5. Now in the gaspe, which I also posted with pics under gaspe region. We rode the 587 out of cross pt and some locals to Amqui. Next day, the mummy trees, mont joli for lunch and on to matane. Spent 3 nights there, one day watching it snow, 1 day day riding. Then a night in st anne des monts, Grande Vallee, three nights in gaspe, one day ride to perce, a night in Bonoventure, then through la cache back to matane.

  6. We got to the Delta monday. Just hung around trying to decide what to do on tuesday. Trails are still great, but because of everything going on we decided to ride one more day, then head for home. So today we rode Bill's Tour Du Lac. Very nice day for a ride.

  7. Then we headed south to st anne de beupre, Q. City(doubletree), Bernieres, RDL, then 4 days in New Brunswick. I've already posted about that under general discussion 2-24. Pic crossing into NB on the 85. Pic getting transported back into Quebec at cross pt. (Mundles now has competition. Mundles is 40 per sled, this guy is 25)

  8. As we were heading to the 3pm ferry in BC we were stopped by a club volunteer checking stickers. He asked where we were going and insisted that we go get a cup of coffee with him. He assured us he'd get us to the boat on time. We went to Tim's with him and on the way back he rode his sled up there to take a picture of us down there

  9. Next we jumped the ferry to Godbout, rode to Sept Isle, then back to Baie Comeau. From there we were shooting for sacre coer, but some wind and snow was predicted so we thought our chances of heading west would be better on the south shore, so we took the ferry back across.

  10. You then should have used that to buy toilet paper and you would have been able trade it for a new sled and trailer....or 1 oxygen helmet.

Headed out and had breakfast at a local diner, stopped in Rogersville for gas and then down to Rexton. The "9.0" in our title signifies Mrs. Byrd's father's 90th birthday, he himself was a long time snowmobiler who saddle bagged throughout New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland and Quebec, in fact he spent his 88th birthday on the trail. An amazing seafood dinner at Makeba Restaurant in Richibucto with family and friends. On Sunday we hooked up with some locals and ran the Richibuto River and then stopped and had lots of fun with family and friends.

Apres le deluge....moi Yesterday, heavy snow fall of about a foot, mixed precipitation for a few hours, rain in sheets during the evening and figured our last day here in the Saint Raymond area would be a non- event, but some groomers had been out and main trails 73 and 23 in relatively good shape. A few parting photos... Likely our last ride of the year....sad.😕

  28. it was 152.8 early today, dealer in joilette told me ski-doo told them they cannot sell sleds to US people , period. That sure did not stop me from going strait to the bank to change over a few thousand for next season, it is on sale right now!!

  29. 2021 850 BCXRS is $17,049 CAN in CANADA or $14,849 US in the US. At today's rate of 1.45, you could turn $11,758 into $17,049 CAN and save $3092 US on your next sled. Additional fees, details, discounts, programs, ethics, killing your local dealer relationship and logistics play into it of course, but it gets you thinking a bit 🙂

    Border Crossing Issues?

Guy from Michigan I met once had this.......he was a Canadian trapped in an American body.....Transnats the support and charitable fund raising group calls itself....got himself a nationality transplant through Canada's socialist health care system. Long waiting list after Trump elected. Now has a small house in Dubreuilville Ontario ...sledding, fishing, shooting things, happy as a clam. Thanks to all you Americans contributing to this forum over the season....particularly snowmaster2112 who tipped me off about the Rodeway Inn north of Amos and the excellent conditions there at Christmas and New Years. Learned a lot from the group and hope to explore Quebec even more next year if I survive the virus and get to retire.

Left Oliphant on Sunday, 7am. New trailer with some modifications, short 1200km jaunt to the Universal in Rivere de Loup. Woke up Monday morning to snow and wind. Checked radar said it should starting clearing around 11. Leisurely breakfast and unload, hit the trails 10 after 11 ( 10 o'clock old time). Trails a little choppy to Rimouski, to be expected for a Monday morning after a warm Sunday. Had to follow a bunch of throttle jockeys for a while, you know those guys that have to have a hand full of throttle and a hand full of brake with the track spinning all the time. The guys that haven't figured out it all about the flow. Stopped for lunch and gas in Rimouski, took a picture of the clubhouse for Snowmaster. Back on trails sun came out, trails were groomed all the way to Matane. 10 out of 10. Into town for gas and arrived at Riôtel around 6:00. Tried to meet up with Mike the Mayor of RDL but our schedules didn't work out. Check out the new red tickle trunk!

One last run down the river to the Inn but before we arrived Houston, we have problem! Scott's sled over heats. A Stud thew tunnel heat exchanger and another stud thew the front exchanger. Off to gas station to pick up some J B weld and antifreeze. Screwed in 5/16 bolt and cover with J B weld. Put weld on front. Removed the rest of the studs from the track and will test in morning. The next morning the front was still leaking so off to hardware to get sheet metal screws. Drilled out, put in screw added more JB weld and let it harden. Time to test, no leaks so off to miramachi for the night. Day 9 we headed off to Governors lodge for the night. Big thank you to Marc and John for being open as food, accommodations and gas getting harder to find so we changed plans and will take the shortest route too RDL . Day 10 ride to Edmundston . Day 11 ride to RDL. Parking lot empty no one on trails almost eerie over 2600 km of great trails. Another great trip with family and friends.

  38. The Canadian dollar has been all over the place in the last 24 hrs, as low as 152 vs US and closed yesterday at 136 now at 137, oil has gone up and that is helping Canadian dollar value, what a roller coaster, looks like I was very lucky to be standing in the right spot at the right time...sometimes you are better of being lucky than smart, does not happen often, these are very uncertain times to say the least.

  39. you need to take into consideration that your friend in New Brunswick will pay 15% sales tax on the new sled plus whatever tax you pay at home when transferring the ownership into your name. It would likely still be a good deal.

  40. Same for me Chris, asked where I was, who I was with, and said welcome home, I told him I was disappointed, hope to hear I had to wait 2 weeks so I could go back to hang with Jean Guy, he laughed. Things are changing quickly, I was so right a week ago to rush to the border before it closed, a really great time was had with you guys, later, Bob.

  41. There are a lot of people on QR who are far smarter than me. They will figure it out and I will follow their lead. Actually, I am holding off any spring order til April, thinking if spring orders are way down, SkiDoo and the others may add more incentives to the pot.

  43. The rate was 152 when I exchanged at the bank at 11 am this morning on the way home. All the workers at the bank were very unhappy it was tanking, I was thrilled, been here before, it will come and go, but this is a very good opportunity for US riders!!

  44. They really take a big hit on depreciating on a used sled, even after 10 minutes. Hope smclelan is willing to take the BIG hit for us😂😂😂

    Northbound

Chris, Jeff, I crossed over at 12 noon 6 cars back, took 40 minutes, 2 cars were brought to the extra search area, ironic or not, they were all aisan or chinesse, looked like profiling to me. Anyhow customs agent looked at my passport asked where I was riding and with who, said I am sure there were not a lot of people around you there, I said almost no one, he handed my paper work back and said welcome home, that was it.I told him I was disappointed, was really hoping he would say come back in 2 weeks, so I could go back to Halta, he thought that was funny. Cabanon said they would close for the season today, so repo has gas, and food, kanawata has gas only, then Hanois in Parent for gas, 33 by manawan is closed and 83 through wemo is closed, so the season is ending in limbo with a good 4 to 6 weeks of snow left in the north country.Traffic was nearly normal around Montreal and basically all the way back to Mass, filling stations and convenience were operating pretty normal, we will see how this shakes down, oil was under 20 a barrel at noon ans THE CANADIAN DOLLAR VS US WAS 152.8 WHEN I STOPPED IN JOLIOTTE ,I AM BETTING ON 152.8, IT HAS BEEN A LONG TIME SINCE IT WAS THAT HIGH, SO INTO THE BANK I WENT TO CHANGE OVER A FEW THOUSAND.Next season is on sale right now!!Also, a lot of Canadians with camps in the bush are on the trail to their camps, passed many going north with their trailers as well on the highway today, kids are out of school, extra vacation, very lucky!!!

  46. That is a great idea Steven. If I just did the math correctly, those of us south of the border buying north of the border would save a bundle. But SkiDoo and the others have, from what I heard, really buckled down on their dealers in Canada to not even think of doing this. However, we can buy used sleds in Canada, even if they are brand new '21's. Long as they had a Canadian (like a certain friend in NS) purchase them first and turn around ten minutes later and sell them to an American.

    Border Crossing Issues?

I kind of wish I was Canadian or they had waited to close the border until this Monday. No more beautiful riding in Quebec for us . The border is officially closed to all non-essential persons. I would like to go to the border in Hemmingford and tell them it is essential that I cross for mental health reasons ( snowmobiling ). Don't think they would buy it. Darn
