Covid 19 Discussion

Practice medicine here. Currently deployed to the ICU at my hospital. It's a war zone. Indescribable. Please follow Eastern Virginia Medical School guidelines for prophylaxis. Vitamin C 1000mg daily. (Prefer Ester Vitamin C). Vitamin D3 1k-4k IU daily. Zinc 50 mg daily. Plaquenil and Z-pack is not at all a panacea. Will see if Remdesivir holds some promise. We are trying not to put people on ventilators. If patients end up on the ventilator, the mortality rate is 70 to 80%. Our hospital numbers finally dropped from yesterday to today by 3 patients. Hang on tight, it's gonna be a bumpy ride.7 points -

Love ya too, Playhard! At least our monkeys are safe. I probably have a more cynical view as my wife is a nurse at the hospital and is often taking care of C-19 patients. She says they can be quite sick one minute and the next minute can be on death's door step. Also she is aware that 20% of C-19 cases are healthcare workers. She says this is really, really bad stuff. She comes home in the morning and strips her work clothes off in the garage, bags the clothes, and runs upstairs and into the shower before having any contact with me and the pets, and before touching anything in the house. She has us using disinfection wipes on each piece of grocery we bring home and then the counter they were placed on. She feels any rush to open the economy too soon is a hazard to all of us, and especially the healthcare workers. We are in our late 60's, so are more at risk of seriousness if we catch this, her job makes her more apt to get it, and if she gets, most likely so will I.5 points

Mike, I perfectly understand you. I am in NYC and I am a healthcare provider myself. My sister, her daughter and son are nurses and have direct contact with C-19 patients. My niece recently acquired it and is currently home recuperating. She is better now . The sad part about it is as soon as she recovers from it, she has to go right back to work as there is a shortage of staff. Everyone in her facility is getting sick, they just take turns. I hope your wife stays healthy. Please thank her for us for her courage to be out there in the frontlines. Be safe and stay healthy. Gemma4 points -

I am with Hartford Healthcare. A system of eight hospitals throughout CT. Not at Hartford Hospital, one of the other hospitals in the system. I get an email daily of the census. It will likely fluctuate daily. I'm not gonna say we are seeing a downside trend until we have less active patients system wide, and dropping continually.3 points -

Spyder Trip Ideas 2020
Florida Snowman and one other reacted to slomo for a topic
With regard to Fuse6's west coast of Newfoundland tour, just finished putting this together for some folks from Australia wanting to drive out that way - crazy for Vikings. Might give some ideas. Lived in Newfoundland a few years, hoping to head to the west coast area for sledding this winter. Trip outline in first photo map and shows some accommodations. Apologies in advance - it is called the Cabot Trail, not the Cape Breton trail as I have named it.....should be able to open in MS Word or similar....links should work( ctr key and click) and Quebec sledding map came in handy for part of the directions... nfld trip by accomodations.docx2 points -
Best $25 I spend. You guys are a wealth of knowledge...not to mention a wealth of laughs. Stay healthy and God willing we’ll see each other on the trails in the coming winter.2 points

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.pennlive.com/coronavirus/2020/04/coroner-accuses-pa-health-dept-of-monday-morning-quarterbacking-coronavirus-deaths.html%3foutputType=amp This isn’t the only county in Pa. that this is happening in, several other Counties are reporting the same findings. Just putting this out there like all the other news.1 point

Mike, I love ya, and yer monkey, this is out of context (fake-news), even MSDNC said this morning that it's not broad science. That VA "study" is from a "what do you have to lose" environment, with an already heartbreaking death rate. Alongside the "stay tuned for breaking balls" sensation today, that the Hydroxy & Z-Pack combo creates death risk, which is a big-old DUH for patients with pre-existing heart arrhythmia. Hopefully the hopes & prayers from our merry troupe, for all of those suffering and all of those serving, are stronger than this virus. Amen1 point

Was gonna suggest leaving time for lawbstas etc along the way, but your pics showed that your priorities are in order! Been there done that 3x so far. Hoping/planning to make it a habit. LSJ & BSL & Gaspésie. No prob if you go during the 2 week trades vaca, just reserve ahead. Scheduled from 7/18 - 8/1 this year. There're lots of regional tourism websites for ideas on local attractions & routes, something for everyone. Thinking zoos and any open-air walking stuff will be social-distancing friendly. Sled geeks like us will likely enjoy stopping & peeking up the trailheads, so keeping the map app handy has value. Yeah, plenty of gravel & dust & roadwork in summer. But at this point face bandannas are the new normal! Regional rental definitely has advantages, like less major (boring & buggy) highway stretches, and no trailering, and not that we'd abuse any equipment but no worries about minor undercarriage scrapeage if you creep up any of those trailheads. Looking forward!1 point

I have stayed there too. An awesome spot, top notch. You could stay at the main lodge, chalets, or riverside cabins. Only about 40km out of saint Anne des Mont. Lots of moose and incredible scenery.1 point

Paved all the way to Manic 5. Yes it is worth the drive, and yes there are tours available. it would be awesome on a bike, lots of twists and turns getting there. Maybe Baie Comeau is a spot for two nights, a day to Manic 5 and a day east toward HSP. The road to Grand Nature south of Cap Chat has a few kilometers of gravel but is usually in good shape, would be worth it.1 point

Playhard loves dem gravel roads. We ride em like we rented them. Oh wait, we did rent them.1 point

Snowfarmer did not write the above op ed, Brad Lamb did. Lamb, a millionaire, is obviously worried about losing his millions if businesses are not re opened. He thinks there is a chance most people have been infected and are now safe to go back to work. His main theme is to ask why the gov't hasn't tested everybody. Maybe he hasn't heard there isn't enough testing equipment. Maybe he needs to volunteer at a hospital and see how hard the doctors and nurses are working, and he needs to know that 20% of the C-19 cases are health care workers.1 point
