  1. Here our last Sunday trail path for a Joliette St-Côme loop The festival St-Côme en glace(Ice sculpture festival) began this last weekend so it was a good opportunity to ride on this side The last week thaw that hit us up to Saturday had been rough for the south west of Quebec province were the snow levels were already limit but after the deep cold Saturday night and the good groomers work the trails from home and up north survived well and we got good trails conditions. Here near home at start. As expected, trails were very hard: scratchers on duty!. A bit of brownish snow on some spot but no breakthrough. Here north from Joliette As expected side of the roads are not at their best...here crossing Baril bridge But the fields are nice. Here north of St-Ambroise de Kildare From here south of St-Alphonse de Rodriguez we began to saw some new snow. Grooming of Coureur des Bois snowmobile club was perfect North of St-Alphonse when going up in the mountains we got some vey nice scenery Once in St-Côme we walked a bit in the village to admire the sculptures. Again this year we are not deceived! We are still early in the festival that was just begin and will continue up to the end of February. Many Sculptures were still "work in progress" and we had the chance to watch many artists at work To give you an idea what to expect of this festival, they pulled from the river more than 700 ice blocks of more than 3000lbs each that have been placed along the principal road in the village for the sculptors The Festival that just started will last 2 weeks/3 weekends to end on the 27 February. It's a nice destination ride by sleds if you are in the area, the #343 trail pass trough the village, impossible to miss! We then continued our ride in north direction on #343 There was the short last section of the #343 that was rough but back on the #63 it was nice We pass by the Bazinet outfitter And continued down to Ste-Émilie/St-Damien. Here just down the big hill in St-Gabriel direction South of St-Gabriel, a bit more brown snow spots visible but overall very good The long fields between St-Norbert and Ste-Elisabeth were hard and very fast And finally here near home We got home early with 135 miles for the whole small loop So the season is still going strong here, already mid February... let's enjoy it Alain

  8. I am a Mainer who normally rides Quebec, (almost exclusively quebec last 15 years but have decades of riding Maine); but past two years have ridden Maine due to the Covid situation. Go to page 7 of the QuebecRider general discussion section for last season's rides and pictures, ***titled "maine ridn"***mine of the Millinocket area of trails and lunch stops, as well as others who posted their rides of Aroostook County. My favorite places over the years of riding all the various Maine snowmobile hot spots: Rangeley: very busy trails Thurs. -Sun. Lots and lots of fantastic restaurants. Big entertainment center (Moose Alley) with games, bowling, bar food etc., small downtown but has great shops, big ski area (Saddleback Mountain) and another ski resort Sugarloaf Ski Resort that also has outdoor center and is about a 40 minute drive, and some nice places in Rangeley to stay as well as large amount of camp rentals. Lots more to do for kids and family type trip. Beautiful area! Millinocket: love the big wide logging roads they use for trails, lots of trails, not enough restaurants at night, not much to do at night, lunch stops on trail can be small and crowded at lunchtime. Popular starting point for saddle bagging to Aroostook County, and saves few hours in truck driving to Aroostook. Aroostook County: considered best area in Maine to ride, good combo of fields, RR beds, trails etc. I like to stay in Presque Isle or Caribou as they are centrally located for riding in all directions. Only downside is it is a long drive to get there. mike

  9. He's a typical skinny 17 year old but he certainly looks like he could drive. I am not too worried about an accident since that would screw up the trip anyway. an extra fine would just be icing on the cake 😞 My insurance should cover him regardless. When I have rarely encountered officials on the trail all they wanted was to verify the trail pass too. There is still an outside chance he can schedule a drivers test for next week and we will be 100%, provided he passes!!! Ironically he has way more miles under his belt riding a sled than driving a car.

  16. We decided to check out some trails south of the river last weekend. We left Villeroy and stayed 2 nights in Montmagny. Day 1 was 200 miles via…too many trails to remember…25, 35, 535, 55, 547, 5. General directions were south to St-Georges in the Beauce region, then back up to Montmagny. Day 2 was 5, 35, 55, 549, 35 and 551 total of 180 miles. Day 3 was 170 miles, 5, 551, 35, 547, local, 75, 35, 540, 535, 35. Sorry best I can do here on trail numbers. Luckily I was not the navigator on this one, or else we might still be looking for the truck. The map looks like someone threw spaghetti on it and said have fun! Overall conditions were good despite the weather. We took a few different trails up and around Le Massif du Sud, which was nice. The area between Montmagny and Villeroy is basically the highest concentration of tapped sugar maples in the world, cool stuff. Or should I say sweet? Here are some pics

  18. Hey all, It's been a 10 years since I have ridden in Quebec due to other obligations and growing family. Now that my son has become a proficient enough rider we wanted to do a ride around the Gaspe this month. He has been dying to ride Quebec forever but needed to be 16 years old. The issue is he is 17 years old without a drivers license... When I looked last fall I though all he needed was a safety course card which he has from NH. But it looks like he needs a license as well. I did see you can ride a snowmobile if you have a learners permit but I am not sure that extends to US residents as well. NH does not give learners permits but he has passed Drivers Ed and all the other requirements but just has not taken the road test yet. Anyone have any thoughts on the learners permit? We would love to go if he is legal but I don't want to end up with a fine or worse..

what is the government so afraid of? Not completing the Great Reset agenda !

  21. How the rules are applied and enforced varies largely by location. If you plan on being in the bush you will be fine. If you plan on riding around town you might encounter more resistance. I noticed you are considering the Gaspe, that area seems to have a lot of trail pass checkpoints as compared to the upper mauricie region. If I was in your shoes I would just doo it. Bring the learners permit and the snowmobile safety course card and call it good. It’s not like he’s 14, shit they will probably serve him at the bar.

  23. Looks like, and makes sense, the law is now full DL for those trails that run roads. But at the 6 or 8 police stops (and a bunch more club-warden stops) over the years, they're never asked our younger riders for anything more than the sled docs (registration & insurance & trail passes). If there was ever a reason for a claim, like heaven forbid assessing accident liability, it could get sticky if an operator wasn't fully legit.

  24. SNOWMOBILE OPERATOR'S PERMIT What the law says Under Section 16 of the Act respecting Off-highway vehicles, all snowmobile operators must be at least 16 years of age. In addition, 16 and 17 year old drivers must have a certificate of competency showing that they have the skills to operate a snowmobile in addition to holding a driver's licence. The Fédération des clubs de motoneigistes du Québec has mandated the ConduiPro driving schools group to dispense this information and issue a certificate of competence to those candidates that have successfully completed the theoretical training course. For additional information, please visit the ConduiPro Web site or call 1-877-766-3443. Attention ! In such instances where the snowmobile trail crosses a public roadway or utilises a road right-of-way, the operator must be the holder of a licence authorizing him under the Highway Safety Code to drive a road vehicle on such a roadway, regardless of his/her age. In addition to an automobile licence, the following permits are also authorized: Mopeds or scooters (class 6D) Probationary licence (class 5) Tractor (class http://quebecrider.com/forums/uploads/emoticons/default_dirol.gif NB : The learner’s licence is to be used under the same conditions as those that apply for its use on a roadway for motorcycles. For additional information, please visit : https://saaq.gouv.qc.ca/en/drivers-licences/obtaining-licence/motorcycle-6a-6b-6c-6e/motorcycle-classes-6a-6b-6c?ADMCMD_prev= For non-Quebec residents Operators aged 16 and 17 years old must possess proof that they are legally entitled to operate an off-highway vehicle in their home jurisdiction in addition to holding a driver's licence. Please note that even in instances when the home state or province allows legal operation of a snowmobile to individuals aged below 16 years of age, driving a snowmobile in Quebec for anyone under 16 is strictly prohibited. What you need before you leave Your FCMQ trail permit Your vehicle registration Your driver's licence Proof of $1 000,000 liability insurance coverage A rental contract (if the snowmobile is rented) 16 and 17 year old drivers must have a certificate of competency showing that they have the skills to operate a snowmobile in addition to holding a driver's licence (V-1.3).

    How to Speak Progressive

If you are bewitched, bothered, or bewildered by how the far left communicates, then this column will be a safe space for you. Way back in 2006, I wrote a book called "Culture Warrior," which quickly became a number one bestseller. In that book, I put forth the goals of the progressive movement - what they really want besides power and money. Now, 16 years later, it has all come true. The far-left controls the man in the White House, most TV News operations, newspapers, and Hollywood. I'd say that's an impressive resume. But many Americans still don't understand the progressive language, so I am here to help. That's just the kind of guy I am. Behold, the lexicon. Social Justice. The big one. The tent under which most minority grievances are displayed. Equity. The solution to social injustice. The government and private enterprise favoring minority groups and sometimes women. Restorative Justice. The movement not to punish criminals with incarceration. This, of course, has led to thousands of murdered Americans, most of them minorities. Climate Justice. The destruction of the fossil fuel industry and the allocation of massive government funds to support mostly speculative alternative energy plans. Economic Justice. Guaranteed jobs and salaries. Income Inequality. Another big progressive tenet. This is the justification for socialism whereby the federal government controls the money flow to Americans - taking from the "haves," giving to the "have nots" with no work requirements or substance testing for the folks receiving other people's money. Inclusion. Preference for certain social categories, i.e., gay, trans. Food Insecurity. Free food for the poor. Housing Insecurity. Free or heavily subsidized shelter for the poor. Reproductive Rights. Abortion on demand at any time, for any reason, funded with taxpayer dollars. No rights for the unborn or their fathers. There are other far-left codes, but those are the headlines. Progressives have now reached the apex of their power, with the ill-informed having no idea about what is actually happening. So, this is quite the brave new world, is it not? And I don't think President Biden and Vice President Harris would object to any of it, which is frightening. And know this: If progressives get what they want, there will be no safe spaces. What you have earned throughout your life with sacrifice will become a target of seizure by a powerful government. That's the plan. However, there is still time to defeat it. The November vote will be key. By: Bill O'ReillyFebruary 13, 2022
