  1. Update for trails Hello everyone, here are the changes made to our trails for this winter. Between Chambord and St-François, from the transmission line to St-François: new trail 83, created by the Club de vtt du Lac, about 2.5 Km. *So the transmission line is CLOSED: see photo 1. Loss of right of way when arriving at Chemin du Moulin, near the bridge and the old "Auberge du Toit Vert" in St-François de Sales. A new trail has been redone: see photo 2. Loss of right of way: trail 373 in Roberval between row 2 and 3. New trail redone towards row 2: cross the road to Roberval and continue on row 2 then turn left via the private lot to row 3: see picture 3. For trail 83 de la lièvre, the trail will go through chemin Lamontagne. There are not supposed to be any logging operations this winter. For trail 355, Lac-Bouchette to Lac Edouard, there will be forestry activities on Zec Kiskissink. From the junction near Kiskissink Lake for about 6 km, the trail will be laid out on the side, be careful on the bridge, traffic with trucks. Thereafter, it will take a bypass path for about 12 km to return to the usual path. Picture 4 A big thank you to the landowners for their collaboration and support to allow us to offer you beautiful trails. Respect for staying on marked trails, private and government land, is super important and above all fragile. We continue to work with landowners, municipalities, the MRC, various departments, forestry companies, etc., to maintain harmonization and the sustainability of our trails. Happy snowmobiling season and be careful!

well...tonight was the big test. Filled her with oil ( I drained last week before putting motor back in sled) and a buddy came over and brought his vaccum tool that you hook to an air compressor to inject your coolant. Gauge was dropping very slowly off 27 under negative vaccum which indicated a leak. I was pretty damn methodical when tightening the hose clamps (expecially by the thermostat in back of motor area) but one front rad hose needed another turn and it solved that problem and now held vaccum. Injected 1.6 gallons of BRP 5 yr pink coolant in from a 2 gallon bucket so easy it would make your head spin. Now we hit the start button. Took about three or four 5 second attempts to get the fuel up from the tank and thru the rail and injectors and she started right up. Not long after a bunch of smoke started coming off the header (contanaments of oil residue I suppose) and some from the exhaust pipe/can donut area. Then the check engine light came on and motor sounded different. At this point I'm like WTF....and shut her down. Then I remember you can look up codes if you have the premium gauge package. A quick YouTube search shows this easy process. With engine running toggle high beams while holding down the M button on cluster. Sure enough..... 3 codes P2621, P2620 & P212C All three indicate an open circuit or failure in the TPS sensor. Mother huck if I didn't plug the connector back in while I was putting the rubber boot on with hose clamp on the throttle body. Solved that issue and after a couple minutes of letting it run (took a couple times actually) the light went off and engine was CLEARLY running smooth as butter. I just completed 3 or 4 engine running cycles and all appears SUPER WELL. Coolant is circulating with warm heat exchangers and I can actually watch the temp go down a degree or two when slightly revving higher indicating the water pump is pushing the coolant through. My good buddy from Vermont (thanks for all your input on this project) said if you do 99.8% of things right on a project like this that still leaves a couple fuck up's. Hopefully I do not have another....LOL All I got do now is throw the outside plastic back on the old gal and wait for some snow on Tug Hill to give her a shakedown. The "Hill" will come through...without a doubt and most likely in the next 10-15 days. I have to drive 2 hr 45 min. but it will be worth it. Then.......hope to see some fellow QR's this season in the mother land. Looking forward to it as much as I ever have !!!!

  5. My Wife and I ran that trail in 09. We traveled in the opposite Direction. We saw no one until Vilebois. We did hit some perfect trails that day. We made our way to Senneterre.

  9. Another thing I remember was there was a beaver pond there and for some reason I think the beavers built their dam on or close to the trail. Anyway when the trail was groomed they groomed right on top of the dam. Also the beavers house had to 15 feet high. I trapped beavers and I never seen a house that huge before. It was , and I admit, the scariest ride I think we were ever on. We felt we were truly in a place we shouldn't be after we got to Matagami.

Happy to help. The parking kind of sucks so find a good spot for your rig and don't plan on moving it. My spouse really enjoyed the massage options they have there. If at some point you want to return, Ontario school March break, which is usually after Quebec March break, is a time when some deals can be had usually by phoning the office direct to book.

Have a look at this place - nice chalets and activities. https://www.auchaletenboisrond.com/en/ Just an aside - you are aware that the auberge at lac taureau and the condos at lac taureau are booked on two separate web sites? Maybe a condo is available (if you didn't look there) They also have some mini home like buildings just off the main site, but right next to the trails and facilities. https://condoslactaureau.com/home/ Did a quick check - condos available for your time, but it's gonna cost ya.

  17. You set the bar high with the Auberge Lac Taureau and Vieux Moulin. Sacacomie Lodge would be comparable, but I think is much more iffy on Christmas trails(ya never know).

Got her all put back together. Again...Christ almighty....LOL all I have to do is fill with oil and coolant (going to use the vaccum method)and hit the start button. As much as the job was a PITA it was a damn good lesson in familiarization with "everything 1200". I know a ton more about my sled for sure. Hopefully Tug Hill will get some snow in the next couple weeks and I can take her on a "shake down" run. Absolutely mandatory before hauling her to QC

  19. Try the Rodeway Inn just north of Amos. Direct access to trails, gas next door, free early breakfast, lots of parking, small swimming pool. There is also news about the trail over the Herricana River being closed by a landowner and might affect access to the two hotels previously mentioned here. BTW thanks to snomaster 2112 for posting about this place when it was just opening - been there twice since, a nice find.

Northern New Brunswick would be a likely option for January. Start from Edmunston, head north to Moose Valley then east to Christmas Mountains and Bathurst.

    Mont Valin Lodging

We travelled to Les Monts Valins last season in mid-December (even though the Club President warned us not to - he said every snowmobiler and his dog will be up there due to their early snow cover) and stayed at the Auberge 31km. We had been there back in late 2011 and really enjoyed the place. Although most of the cabins around the Auberge had since been sub-divided into two, last year's visit saw our gang of six staying in one of those that had remained intact. The accommodations were fine, and the relais La Chapelle is just up the road (check out the latter's facebook page!). The only issue was, as per the club president's warning, the traffic. With the ridiculously heavy traffic, and relatively mild temperatures, the groomers simply couldn't keep up. Perhaps by January colder temps will aid in allowing the trails to "set up" overnight, and maybe the rush might have diminished a bit as other areas opern up, but it's something to consider before planning a trip. I know that later in the season, the sledding is excellent and, with the lookouts open (there weren't in mid-December), the scenery is fantastic.
