  1. Thanks Steven, Andy, Ray, and everyone. It has been a good run, and I enjoyed meeting and riding with many of you, but things change. I don't ride at all now, and haven't been keeping up here like I used to. I think John and Gary will take good care of things in my absence. Good luck everyone and stay safe. :drinks:

  2. I think the star means you have posted to that topic and the circle not..and if you click on either it takes you to the first new post. The threads that are not highlighted you have read. I think, LOL Lotsa stuff I'm not familiar with either.

I got a question for Rob.

In the list of topics in the General Discussion board some have a star and a dot to the left of the title of the topic, also some are highlghted and some are not, could you define this for me.

Aswell, at what point does a topic get the amber highlghted box with hot written in it attached to the topic?

    Thanks

    JG

  3. Just a heads up.

When you are sent a PM, or someone replies to a PM you sent to them, you will get an email notification letting you know about the PM message, (as long as your forum email is correct). The email is just a way of letting you know you have a message, you need to log into the forum to reply to a PM. This isn't something new with this version of the forum, it has always been that way. On the bottom of the email notification it states:

    > PLEASE DO NOT REPLY DIRECTLY TO THIS EMAIL!

    > You can reply to this personal conversation by following the link below:

    >

Unfortunately, some members seem to be forgetting how to reply to a PM and missing the above message, as the system has been getting an increasing number of emails where members have simply replied to the email notification. These email replies end up in the trash bin and never get read by anyone.

  4. Looking at the Sony website I don't see any firmware available for the dsc h1, only the h2. It could just be with over 30,000 pictures, the shutter is giving out. It might be time for an upgrade. Either way, good luck. We don't want to miss any of your great pictures :drinks:

  5. What kind of camera? I would try downloading and installing the latest firmware for the camera, many times that will fix problems like that. Good luck!

Edit: Just as a sidenote, we picked up a few inches of snow in the last several days. I imagine it will be heading your way next.

  6. Everyone talks about the crime rates in Canada and what to do about it. I get asked the question often, so maybe we can pin this thread, and people can add to the list. Here's what we usually do...

    1. When you cross the border, don't tell them where you're going, make up a bogus place. If I'm going to Shawinigan I tell them I'm going to Chicoutimi and vice-versa.

2a. Park at a Hotel with secure parking for trucks.

2b. or stay at a smaller place out of town.

    3. Cover your VIN number.

    4. Pull the fuel pump relay and others like it.

    5. Run a chain through a tire and frame.

    6. Chain the trailer to the truck.

    7. Chain the truck to a neighbors truck or light pole.

    8. If you have a high-target setup, also install a hidden kill-switch to the starter.

We also carry a 6' chain and lock in the saddle bags for the sleds. We always lock them up.

Of course, the only chain to use is this...

    Chain

    Great list! :good:

  7. Rob there was a bulliton that came out on feb.28 from BRP. for that exact problem. It happened to me at 5000km.Rode all day no problems, same as all year, fueled up and crossed road and sled started acting up.Thought water for sure.Siphoned out fuel put new and same problem, took fuel tank out, found water and same as you on filter in pump.Called my dealer and found out about new filter update, changed parts, all is well now.New filter is 5 times larger and stronger.

Hope this helps, call your dealer, because this might not be a recall.

Thanks, I'll check on it. Still wonder where the dirt and water is coming from? My sled only had about 300 mi on it when it happened. :drinks:

  8. I was thinking the same thing about adding dry gas to fuel with Ethanol. But like you said the pumps dont say it in QC. I would think they would post it on the pump if it was added but who knows?

In the US it is not a requirement that the pumps are labeled. Most are, but not all.

Warning: The following areas do not NOT require ethanol/alcohol pump labeling:

District of Columbia - DC, Indiana - In, Kansas - KS, Kentucky - KY,

Maryland - MD, Michigan - MI, Minnesota - MN, Missouri - MO, Nevada - NV,

New Hampshire - NH - New Jersey - NJ, North Carolina - NC, Ohio - OH.

Caution: The following states sometimes require labeling, often dependent on percent of ethanol alcohol added:

Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Iowa, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Mississippi, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Mexico, New York, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Oregon, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia.

I haven't been able to find info on ethanol labeling requirements for Canada.

  9. I have always made a point of filling up at high traffic gas stations, and so far have yet to have a problem. However there are times when you can't so I always have a bottle of isopropelyne handy in case the fuel seems questionable. Years back when I had boosted sleds, I always carried a bottle of octane boost just in case. You wrote that you fuel filter was blocked- Was it sediment or water? I've been told to avoid filling up at a station that has the tanker truck filling up the tanks. The new fuel filling the tanks stirs up all the crap in the bottom , however the filters on the actual gas pumps should take care of that.

It was a fine reddish sediment that blocked the filter. The pump was having trouble pumping, and I suspect the filter at the pump had been removed.

Also, how prevalent is ethanol in Quebec? I have heard it both ways, some saying that there are no ethanol blends in QC, and others say there are. I know for sure there is an ethanol plant in Varennes, QC, and I understand there is a law in Québec requiring all gasoline contain 5 percent ethanol (by volume) by 2012. I can't help but wonder if this figured into my problem.
