  1. "we are buying a trail pass...not a registration" Now that makes sense. Thank you QB
  2. Bob, I think you misunderstood my question. I'm riding in Quebec and of course have a Quebec registration with included insurance. Over the course of many years riding in QC, on occasion, unfortunately, we've been stopped on the trail and and they always request to see both my QC reg paperwork as well as a local registration from the state I live in. If I'm NOT going to ride in the state where I live, I prefer not to register. Why do the Quebec officials want to see my NH or MA or CT registration as well as the QC reg? If it's to prove I own the sled can't I simply show my Certificate of Origin? If it's to insure I have insurance, can't I simply show my insurance certificate?
  3. As a resident of the States, why do the Quebec authorities care if my sled is registered in my home state? They do, because I've been asked for it. I don't ride at home at all, so it's just a wasted fee that goes up each year. This year it's $150. which is not insignificant. If it's a proof-of-ownership question, which is understandable, can I simply show my passport and the sled's Proof of Origin -instead of registering in the states? (Of course along with my Quebec Registration) Thanks everyone. O
  4. I haven't had a decent chicken club sandwich since I was last in Quebec!
  5. I was going to say the same thing. That section of 5 from Petite Vallee to St Anne Des Monts is quite possibly the nicest trail in all of Quebec. Lots of snow, incredible views of the St Lawrence river and fun elevation changes with switchbacks.
  6. Windigo for sure. 22 is good for a lunch spot and to warm up, but the accommodations aren't the best. Very small rooms and uncomfortable beds. O
  7. Forestal in Val-d’Or would be my first choice. Clean and modern with a great restaurant. Also, its right on the main drag. You may want to make a reservation if you can. I guess there are a lot of hockey tournaments in this region and if you happen to be there on a weekend or holiday week you may be out of luck. Did I say nice restaurant? Yes indeed.
  8. Can someone please identify the trail that connects from 597 (52 mi south of Murdochville) East and ends at Trail 5 just south of Gaspe? The FMCQ online map does not label it. I rode this trail years ago, and it was amazing. Looking to confirm deets on our trip next week. Also, if anyone has recent experience on this trail. Thank you. O
  9. Hi JG, we'll be riding Gaspe Mar 5-10 and watching your updates very closely! And please keep posting those incredible photos. Especially the ones with piles and piles of snow. This will be my 4th Gaspe trip and I'm as excited as the first. O
  10. I'd be very careful comparing anything to the Hitler/Nazi regime.
  11. Who woulda' known? Thanks Mark.
  12. Does anyone use a Camelback hydration bag while saddlebagging QC? It should solve the problem of your bottle freezing up between stops. I like to stay hydrated and have fought this problem for years. TIA O
  13. I could have used them once or twice 🙂
  14. Stayed on the Pointe a la Croix side a couple of times. Clean, cheap, restaurant on-site and gas next door. Trail across the street. Stay here and cross in the AM. https://motelinterprovincial.com/
  15. Sorry, dont know why i have such a difficult time posting pics. Need to ask my 11 y/o niece ...
  16. I use a NorthFace waterproof duffel. 31L Very rugged, and guaranteed. I can carry a weeks-worth of the essential clothes. A smaller-ish bag also forces me to carry less and keep the weight down. I'm getting too old to dig this thing out. To secure duffel to the sled, I use motorcycle-type cargo bungies. $10 for 2 on Amazon they wont' freeze up like other straps and a very secure. They allow me to also stuff things under them when not needed, like my gauntlets. It could be a little bit larger, but I'm living with it. Pictures aren't great, but may help. 17. We've stayed there couple of times the past 3 years. Would recommend. Very nice, and within walking distance of several restaurants.
  18. Thanks for the updates everyone and its what i hoped to hear. We'll head south towards perce, then 597 up towards grand valley as planned.
  19. Does anyone have an update on grooming operations in eastern Gaspe? We're in Riviere-au-ren , just outside Gaspe and the TQ5 hasnt been groomed and according to the fcmq map it looks like all trails east and south haven't been groomed in more than 72 hours. It's not good at all. On the other hand everything West of cap chat was outstanding. Any insight as to what may be going on in eastern Gaspe would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

    Sept Isles

8Epic adventure in the books. 2325 mi in 10 days. 965 mi during first 4 days in Abitibi, (Fontbrune, Club Trout, Lac Fallion, 100 Lacs, Fontbrune) then trailered to Baie St Paul . Rode east with nights in Forestville, Port Cartier and Harve St Pierre -both up and back. With exception of the last few mi returning to BSP on Sunday afternoon, conditions were fantastic for 1360 mi. IMO this region competes with the North shore of Gaspe for variety of trails and scenery but with less traffic. As I said we lucked out with sun and fresh snow the entire trip....however...the last 100 miles heading into HSP -knowing what i do now- i wouldnt attempt in a snowstorm or heavy wind. Miles and miles of elevation with no vegetation, navigating stake to stake through the drifting snow and sharp, off-canter turns. If you like Gaspe (and who doesn't???) you should put Cote Nord on the list... Now if I can only figure how to post pics

    Sept Isles

Livin large in Havre St Pierre! Ken and Owen's excellent adventure continues with a 202 mi run today finishing at Hotel du Harve in light snow. Some of the nicest terrain and views we've ever ridden in Quebec. Why don't more people ride Cote Nord??? Conditions and weather have been mostly ideal since we left Baie St Paul 3 days ago, warm and sunny with lots of snow. However, north of Sept Isles is nowhere I'd want to ride in weather or wind. Wide open mostly, following stake to stake across a moonlike landscape working feverishly to keep the sled in the center of the trail. Failure left or right means certain digging out of a ditch -or worse (and if your riding buddies are anything like mine, you won't be allowed to forget:). Of course this means we have to do it all again starting tomorrow. Havre St Pierre to Port Cartier to Forestville to Baie St Paul, and did I say its snowing?? The adventure continues.....
