  1. There's an old saying I learned from the Boy Scouts. "If your feet are cold, put on a hat." When you get cold the blood in your body goes to your head to keep your brain warm. If you were to wear a heavier balaclava, your head will be warm and your blood will then move to other parts of your body. Don't laugh, try it! The other suggestions will also aid in keeping your warm. Also dress in several layers to trap your body heat. You do not want to sweat. That cools your body.
  2. I just made a call to Caribou and am told the trails are in very good shape with more snow expected in the next few days. I am planning on going there next week. I will make a few more calls to confirm.
  3. The downside of a guided tour is that you may or will likely be in a group of new riders, like yourselves, that will likely have one or more "slow" riders. Being that you are all young and are likely to pick it up quickly, I would go with a "Private Guide", like Iceman. I don't know him but from reading his posts and knowing what I know, I believe it would be the better choice. Have a great trip!
  4. I don't have a problem with the French language. As long as you can say "Mole son", you're all set!
  5. Try cycling your glow plug warm-up 5 times rather than once or twice. It works for me at -15F without a block heater. Also arrive in your northern destination with enough fuel to arrive and fill up there. Fuel is formulated different for northern areas. Good Luck and ride safe.
  6. Just returned and the trails were decent. The farther north, about half way to Repos, the trails were free of ice.
  7. Does anyone have any recent trail conditions in the Saint-Zenon area? We will be staying at Le Cabanon.
  8. I purchased them a very long time ago and they were useless. They may have improved but I doubt it. I've found that the best way to key the hands warm are a good pair of mittens.
  9. Looking to get $6,000 for the sled. Looking to get $6,000 for this sled.
  10. What would be my best option for replacement carbides? Six or eight inch and which brand (OEM or aftermarket) will last the longest? All my riding is groomed trail riding, with the necessary road crossings and fuel stops.
  11. This 2010 Ski-doo GTX 1200 four stroke is in great condition. Sixteen to eighteen mpg. It has electric start, reverse, hand and thumb warmers, studs, a 17.5" windshield and mirrors. It has a new up-dated drive clutch and newly installed hy-fax, carbides and rear snow flap. The oil and oil filter have just been changed. 6,786 miles, all in northern Maine or Quebec. This sled was gone through completely for a trip around the Gaspe that never materialized. Contact me at 860 537-5004 if you have any questions. Looking to get $6,000 for the sled.
  12. A friend of mine has a few vintage snowmobiles that he is willing to part with. He has four Johnson's, late 1960's to around 1972. Also a 1973 Snow-jet and a Kawasaki about the same time frame. I also have a one piece Snow-jet snowmobile suit from 1972. All sleds are located in Connecticut.
  13. Towing...Thanks for posting your pic's. My son flew in to Montreal on a business trip in mid-February. We went to the same destination from Saint-Zenon. I sent him your pic's. thanks
  14. What is the life expectancy of this engine? When do they recommend a freshening of the engine? Frank
