  1. Just saw this and thought I would pass it along. Could be worth going to if anyone is in the area. http://snowgoercanada.com/latest-news/914-freestyle-snowmobile-demonstrations-for-montreal-s-375th-a-one-of-a-kind-event-in-the-city-centre?utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_content=275579&utm_campaign=2016-12-22
  2. As stated apply on line for the free pass ahead of time. Also just in case you are not aware, if you cross into Canada leave your firearms at home.

    Winter

Well you can look at it this way, from tomorrow on the days will be getting longer which means longer riding days!
  4. Going to The west island for Christmas but I should be driving back up on the 26th. My buddy and I will probably looking for a first run destination if all is well lakes are safe to cross. We should Keep in touch maybe we can meet up.
  5. Nice, further north near Tremblant we have had no freezing rain only snow. We had about 6 inches on the ground last week and the lake froze with a little snow on it then -30c Fri night and cold all day Fri. Saturday brought about 4-6 inches of snow and -10c temps, another 4 inches of snow over night and snowing quite hard at the moment, -6c. Going into the deep freeze tonight again -27c. All this should add up to well frozen swamps, creeks and lakes. No word on starting to groom from local clubs yet but I imagine they will have all the right conditions to start this week.
  6. 30cm in Duhamel? WOW lucky! We only got about 5-6 cm here.
  7. My Olympic was a 14 hp Rotax. The Alpine was a 7 1/2 Rotax by the serial # but I bought it with no engine in the early 80's and put a 339 Citation motor in it. I don't think either machine topped 30mph. My back gets sore just thinking about the -2 inch suspension.
  8. Got a 64 Alpine sitting out behind the garage. My plan has been to fully restore it as it reminds me of my first sled, a 64 Olympic. I might be in my golden years by the time it gets finished, even if it was finished now, I'm sure it would take me into my golden years to go around Gaspe at the speed it goes.!
  9. Neat. They used to have a fairly large antique snowmobile show at the race track near St Eustache, not sure if they still do.

    Trail loss

Just received an email from the secretary at the Ville de Mont Tremblant. While there is no news yet on the clubs Facebook page, her email basically says that a solution has been found to keep the trail open this year and a study for two other trails is being worked on. hope this is true.

    Trail loss

Not sure how many signatures would change the out come. I believe the club just asks that as many as possible flood the Mayors email with polite responses. As many know Tremblant has been a dead end since the closing of the petit train de Nord. Yes we can thank tree huggers and the type of people who think snowmobiles ruin nature but embrace hanging condos off of ski hills till they no longer resemble mountains. We lost two other trails in short order after that, part of the 43 that went directly from Weir ( Montcalm ) to lac des seize Ile and a local trail that branched off of the 43 near Weir and connected up with the 317 making a quick route to Tremblant. Things were looking up for the area with a new trail that connected Weir back up with Lake view last winter and a on going plan to build a bypass trail to reconnect the section of the petit train de Nord. Property in the immediate Tremblant area is very expensive as Trailblazer mentions, but 20 miles out side of Tremblant is more reasonable but we have been experiencing the ripple effect. Some of the most over used real estate agents phrases for my area is " only 20 minutes to Tremblant" or " situated within the magic 20 minute circle from Tremblant". One of the nice things about living here and attracted me first as a cottage owner and now full time resident is sledding right from home. Yes I can trailer to more popular places that thrive on snowmobile tourism but until that becomes a absolute necessity, I will support the local clubs that are fighting to keep open our trail network, much of which has existed since the late 60's and 70's when almost everyone in this area had sleds.
  12. I am speading the word and the request for help in trying to prevent a major trail closure near Tremblant QC. A section of the Trans Quebec 43 near St Jovite will effectively cut off 16 island lake from St jovite and the way I understand it, make it impossible to snowmobile out of St Jovite and another massive dead end in the area. The Club Motoneige Diable et Rouge has just announced this on their face book page and they are asking for people to email the mayor of Mount Tremblant in an effort to reverse this situation. Details can be found here. https://m.facebook.com/Club-Motoneige-Diable-et-Rouge-115355755241948/Scroll down to see the announcement, most text has a translation button. Thanks, Norm
  13. We got a dusting here near Tremblant QC. I hadn't been on the site much since the season ended but snow on the roofs and on the trees made me want to check in!☃
  14. Cause you buy cheap Hawkesbury gas? Grin!
  15. Unfortunately i don't think you can pin your trail conditions experence down to one or two things or for that matter generalize conditions for all of the Quebec area. I am lucky enough to ride right from my front door and have been sledding for many years in the same area and beyond. Two different clubs groom two different trail networks that join in my village. one clubs trails were far superior to the others this year and I have no clear cut answer as to why. I think many things have to align to get that" wow that was a fantastic trail " experience. Traffic, how soon sleds are on a freshly groomed trail, temperature when the groomer past vs the temp when the first sleds pasted, Rain, snow, the terrain the trail runs through, how flush the clubs bank acct is and also the enthusiasm and experience of those running the club are all variables that must come together.
  16. Yes but did you ride on a 4 lane highway with cars like this guy is doing? There was a difference in the bikes back then, I had a few leaving the road incidents and never did much damage dusted my self off and picked up my bike off I went. Today the big cruisers are much heavier. Mine weights over 850 lbs and if you drop it even at a slow speed your going to do lots of expensive damage. Trying to pick up a bike that heavy is a challenge in dry conditions, no way he would do it alone in the snow.
  17. I guessing he never listened to the forecast. I live close by to there and they predicted heavy snow falls for the area. It was cold and dry in the morning. It started mid afternoon on Wednesday and went through the night. We got about 8 or more inches out of it. Hope he didn't have far to go.
  18. Doesn't seem very long ago we were blasting down that trail.
  19. Ok Iceman, I have a mathematical question, how many stickers do you go through in a year? Grin!
  20. Done that before here, all I can say is hope they grease up all the bearing before storage.
  21. Neat, as a Quebecer it really moved me.
  22. Fantastic trip report. I'm jealous as hell!
