  1. A foot or two of snow would be very helpful for the situation wouldn't it.
  2. Smoke is blowing into southern Ontario right now. Can't see across the lake. Sun and moon are red. Odd for the wind to blow that direction. Amazing that the smoke will travel that far. Gotta be close to 1000 kms away.
  3. Gaspe is a great place to ride, but it's really more setup for saddlebagging vs day trips unless you are further west towards Amqui. One trail in and out of town doesn't offer much variety to ride out of week after week.

  5. Yep, that's the issue. Doesn't understand the sport. Its not a highway.
  6. Saw this on the CBC. Feel bad for the guy, but I don't think the judge ruled properly here. How do you hit a stump of that size? This is the sort of case that has caused all kinds of issues in Ontario for the OFSC. To the point that everything the organization does is centered around risk management and keeping the insurance bill reasonable. Sad situation all around.
  7. Found this article https://weleaf.nl/en/the-white-trail/ Don't think I'll try it on skis. That said kinda leads you to believe the connection between the FCMQ system and the route blanc may be a bigger part of the challenge. Also maybe at the other endvtrying to get to the trails in Labrador. This route might disappear if they push a highway through as well. Interesting read.
  8. Looking at those pictures they must be putting two bridges in. What a project. Would be worth the trip out there just to see them.
  9. Wow thats a beautiful structure in an awesome location scenery wise. Hopefully this is it for closures along the north shore.
  10. Let's be honest. Both options suck in their current offerings. There is lots being spent on R and D though. So hopefully we get there sooner than later. Talking with some generator guys and they've told me the energy density isn't nearly as good with hydrogen vs. natural gas. It will take a larger volume of fuel to do the same job. Natural gas was never as good as diesel or gasoline on this front to begin with. I'd say were on the EV bandwagon now like it or not. Question is when they can get the range up, charging times down and cold weather performance in line with less losses. I could be wrong, but what I see is lots of EV charging infrastructure being built. I don't see much in the way of hydrogen infrastructure coming online. Water emissions would make for some interesting winter driving though wouldn't it? Might firm some trails up if the sleds are watering the trails down ever so lightly as you ride too. Maybe they can find a way to convert that water emissions into snow. Every sled is a snow maker. Now we're onto something.
  11. TQ3 between Sept Isles and Riviere au Tonnerre.

  13. - The ability to save my planned routes for future reference. - Would be nice if it'd do turn by turn navigation like Google maps for people that miunt their phones while riding. - Snow depth layer never seems to be 100% accurate. Wonder if they can get the data from the NOHRSC data set which seems to be more accurate. - - More emphasis on the clubs to update trail conditions on a regular basis. The groomer tracking is awesome, but seems clubs don't always keep their status up to date. - When a trail is closed don't show groomer tracking. That said the second the trail is listed open show the groomer tracking all the time. There was delays this season where groomers weren't displayed for weeks on end after things were underway. Understand clubs wanting to hide what they're up to until they have a usable product to offer. But we need the tracking as soon as trails open. - Having two seperate ways that closed trails are shown is confusing. If it's closed it should be consistent regardless of what screen you're looking at (trail conditions or groomer delay) - have a new colour (maybe pink) to let clubs identify trails issues and highlight the effected area (logging, major groomer breakdowns, etc.) - make sure improvements don't hinder the apps performance All of this is suggestions, but it's really just nit picking. It's already the best app on the snow hands down.
  14. Anyone know the story with this one? Will it re-open next season?
  15. This looks like a great option. Cuts the majority of the off trail riding out. Probably Lab City to Goose Bay that still involves some off trail riding.
  16. Thanks. That's a great link. I've always spat at a guide (especiallyfor what is supposed to be groomed maintained trail). Haven't seen the need. That said the pricing isn't terrible and it includes a helicopter ride which would be cool. Just not sure if the pace would be fast enough or not. 6 days seems like a lot for that distance. Appreciate the you sharing the link.
  17. Can anyone help point me in the right direction to attain info on the Route Blanche and on Labrador for riding. Preferably info in English if available. Is it possible to ride from Baie Comeau to Lab city, out to Goose Bay and then make your way back around the coast landing in Baie Comeau again? If so how adventurous would this undertaking be? I realize weather is a huge determinent in this and that some of it is very open country. How much of the route is off trail vs how much would be on maintained trail when the weather co-operates?

  19. Anything for a day on the trails. Lol
  20. Nice trip. I'd go again. Said I was done, but seem to be finding excuses to get one more in this weekend. Hopefully the storm isn't too heavy.
  21. Windigo is closed as well. Relais 22 still open. She's winding down.
  22. Just avoid the low ground. Pick one side of the river or the other to ride. When I say bad around the towns I mean 300' strips or more of bare ground. South facing hills near the tunnel that had no snow left on them. The bridge over the river was bare as well. Knowing what I know now a two day loop would have avoided it all. Could have ridden TQ23 from St Ray, down to TQ3. Took it right through to 83, then took 83 north and stayed at hotel motel valin (on the outskirts of Chicoutimi). Then 369 back to TQ23 and back to St Ray. We wouldn't have had any bad running. Worst would have been near Claremont which was still decent. Our mistake was trying to cross the Saguenay river and dropping down to Baie St Paul.
  23. Do you have the trail conditions turned on? It doesn't show in the trail or grooming views like some of the closed trail do.
  24. The clubs are trying to avoid birdge deck damage from studs and carbides. Decks are bare. So they closed the trail.
