SnomoGary reacted to MrGutz in 367 Shipshaw
Quick update on conditions, we landed Thursday, rode friday and saturday, mostly a mixed bag, almost like when we would come up on Dec31st.
Thin in a lot of places, bumpy in others , everything is just ramping up.
Expecting more snow soon.
Two weeks it'll be better!
LOL

SnomoGary reacted to mikerider in 2024 Rivière-du-Loup trail conditions
Well folks, it looks like Bas St. Laurent is open and waiting for us.
If you go to SledMagazine.com, click on 'Services and Tourism, then click on Bas St Laurent, scroll down, and it lists all the clubs and conditions.
Few hours ago it was all red from every club. It is now green for all clubs except one.
Gotta go pack up. See you all at RDL tomorrow.

SnomoGary reacted to towing in Clubs and FCMQ?
The big change this year is insurance related... i'm not sure if it have already been discussed here but here are the facts
There is an increase of legal proceeding against snowmobile clubs in the last years, especially this last spring there is one that ended up with a $3 000 000 settlement against Rouyn Noranda snowmobile club and there are others pursuits pendings... https://www.canadianlawyermag.com/practice-areas/personal-injury/snowmobile-club-negligent-for-a-tree-stump-that-permanently-injured-a-man-quebec-superior-court/376167
It not only increase the insurance fees for the clubs/FCMQ to get covered but also tend to be an insurability problem and if no company want to insure... no snowmobile clubs will take the chance to open a trail. It's not a joke it is a very serious issue.
So this season each snowmobile club have to follow some new security rules for trails opening, all the signs and opening work on trail need to be complete and they have to fill up a form that they sign and send to fcmq before activate the dozer GPS and the trails can show up open in Imotoneige. They need to do that to make the trails safer and protect insurability of the system in the future.
Other than that are the usuals bugs and delays that can happen with Imotoneige system and the clubs volunteers those lasts days are more on trail work than the web for sure!
We were almost on dirts just a week ago and there are between 2 and 3 feets of snow to the ground right now after this second storm yesterday in my area and many others. Imotoneige picture will change a lot in the next week...

Just throwing this out there: When you head north, consider bringing a couple Covid Test Kits. My wife the nurse says her hospital is filling up fast with Covid patients.

Still no big snowfall. The grooming map shows just part of Mount Valin is open. The rest of Quebec is in the 5-10 cm of snow if any. We need to do our snow dance and get Mother Nature back on track.
We missed our annual trip to Lac St Jean. The forecast is for cooler temperatures. Let's hope it brings the snow with it.

His father keeps asking whats the worst that would happen if he was caught on the trails?
I said I dont want to find out.....
But i did hear he drove a 900r up 93 toward Valin until his Uncle had to have him pull over so he could change his snowsuit!
But thats just a rumor.....

SnomoGary reacted to revct1 in 2024 Jack & Sandi's Trips
Hi Don,
Oh if I'm in the second seat, that is only asking for trouble. I don't see anything good coming out of that. Lean? Which way? Oops!
Health insurance > I am so glad that Sandi and I are covered. I would be sleeping on a park bench if I didn't have it. When I add up what the insurance company has covered for me, it scares me. I didn't use the insurance much before I was 60 years old. Just the normal check ups and colds. But since then, the list is longer than my broken arm.
See you soon.

Hi Gary & Pat,
Our reservations are made at the Delta. We will be waiting for you. If my arm feels good enough, tell Pat I might make some fudge! Looking forward to some good riding.

EastMark's thinking is right on. I am along the same lines. Follow the food trail around Quebec. A scenic mountain sight can't compare to a bowl of hot Poutine on the table encompassing all your senses of pleasure. Ten years later you won't even remember where that scenic mountain was, but eat Quebec food and you'll remember the where, the when, and who you were with.
Oh, and don't forget to try the crepes!!!
