  2. About the only direct cost that FCMQ could reduce, without any loss of revenue to them, would be the included insurance. If a copy of your insurance card was included with trail pass registration, whatever that cost is, would not be charged. I know many of the friends that I used to go to Quebec to ride, have been riding family group riding-in the US. Way to expensive to take 4 sleds to Quebec multiple times. They have been still going the "free" week-end and riding Maine or Vermont the rest of their trips. As the kids drop out, or cover their own expenses, it may bring some of them back to Quebec, as part of the older group of riders from the US. Keeping an extended, well marked, well maintained traill system will still be key to keeping riders coming and wanting to come to Quebec. It is always a pleasant place to travel, with great people at so many different places along the way. Multiple sled pass discounts could help, same owner/same address, but maybe not enough.
  3. we didn't see downtown from where we stayed Lac Megantic. also, not sure about Sawyerville hotel, trail doesn't go thru downtown anymore, goes straight on road back to rr bed, just cut up 1st side street to restaurant and last side street to gas.
  4. We just had the most perfect little 500 mile ride from home into Quebec this past week-end. We really love it when we can ride from our house, no trailering!! The ride plan was modest, Dana in the middle of a Winter cold, but she's a trooper and our friend Bob from Ct... Rode from Holland (Derby Line) Vermont on Friday mid morning, crossed border in Norton, Vt. We rode up the 521 to Sam's Turnpike, one of our favorite little yellow trail crossovers to trail 521 North to Sawyerville. Stopped for lunch in Sawyerville, great little restaurant run by english speaking Tina. Scooted on up to the 55 to Weedon, picked up the 65 to 540 to the 25 in Thetford Mines. Comfort inn was our home for the night, we were in at 4:00 o'clock, early but good time for an early beer and dinner at St Hubert's next door. Trails were all fresh groomed and perfect, almost no traffic and weather was perfect. Felt like we wanted to keep ridiing but didn't want to overdo 1st day. Nice easy 150 miles-perfect. Saturday plan was to head East and loop back around to Lac Megantic. Headed out east on the 25 out of town, fresh groomed and super fast, super fast, did I say super fast. nice. Took the 55 east in Adstock, tricky intersection, easy to take 55/25, but we'd been here before, so we headed 55 towards Notre dame-des-pins. Again trails perfect to the big red bridge crossing the Riviere Chaudiere in Nd de Pins. Gas and go to the 75 north to the Beauce clubhouse 55/75. Early lunch, great clubhouse there. This area gets a lot of traffic north-south on 75 from Jackman and east-west on the 55, and was a bit bumpy and traffic a few miles either side of clubhouse, but not bad. Once headed east on the 55 it was great power line riding on perfect trails, with just enough snow dust to keep things cool and speed in check. Just past Lac Etchemin took the 545 South towards St Cyprien. Almost no traffic, fresh groomed, perfect trails-God is great! We took the 545 down to short yellow trail cut off to trail 75 to grab some gas. Turns out trails were so smooth and running so much in the 50-75 mph speed range our fuel burn was super good, 6 gallons/87 miles. But, better safe than sorry. Continued on down the 75 to clubhouse in Armstrong. Trail 75 was remarkably good through this section. Time for Dessert! Stopped at the clubhouse in Armstrong. Nice place, had some sugar pie, hot chocolate, some conversation and ready to make our dash to our next home at the Hotel Le Quiet in Lac Megantic. Took the bullet trail 25 west out of clubhouse (watch for deer) to 580 west to Lac Megantic. All super good, with almost no traffic. Arrived invigorated and enjoying life at 4:30 with an all good 202 mi. Sunday am took the 65 north/west towards Weedon, power lines-awesome, some woods-very good, some road trails-super. From Weedon we retraced our ride back thru Sawyerville-back into Vermont. The few inches of snow that fell overnight Saturday helped with road crossings/ road trails making for no issues there. Border crossing uneventful, very polite welcome to US from customs, nice change. Vermont 15 miles to home were all good, showing signs of a busy week-end in Vermont. 150 mile dash to home, in at 2:30. 500 mile for the week end. Yeah Winter. South shore is sometimes as good as the north shore. If I knew how to post pictures, we have some. later freinds.
  5. I believe it is a Comfort Inn with trail access downtown, attached to St Hubert's chicken. Have stayed there a couple of times,
  6. iceman, you are on top of it. the man with answers!
  7. You don't need sled info to register with fcmq on line, just address, email and check box to acknowledge quebec laws. Reply right away with printable pass sent to email address, one per email address,
  8. open week-end is Feb 8-9th for Quebec trail pass, so many are interested in trying the south shore area then. Trail info received passed on. thanks, Mike
  9. thanks for update skidooccio, hard to guess when things have had warm and rain in different amounts, kind of all over. sounds like you had a great ride.
  10. thanks, Iceman. In days past, before all the internet info, we used to just head like you did, and still had some good trips, around some bad spots Sounds like that's where you're at, hope the rest is all good. appreciate the reports!
  11. we rode from Bernieres (south shore quebec city) back to Thetford Mines yesterday morning, they had lots of snow but trails were starting to get thin in some corners, and the rain hit in the afternoon. It poured all the way back to Vermont. Killed the snow here in NEK, brown. But- now it's snowing and ground is "looking" white. It's gonna take a lot of snow in Vt to get trails back. Stupid Jet Stream!
  12. same journal printed, snowmobiles running wild on streets on Montreal-with obvious photo shop picture, flame throwers mounted on snow plows burning rocket fuel. dam probably not ready to break.......
  13. sounds like you're having some fun, even if trails/weather not cooperating. I guess our plan is to ride from Thetford to Bernieres towards rdl (tourville) swing around on cross trails from 5 depending on weather and snow. Won't make it up to rdl, hoping snow, not rain on week-end. thanks for info, Mike.
  14. I guess I'm missing something, what's wrong with the stars and green light? How much more info are you gonna get in a general check of conditions? Looks okay to me.
  15. Cool ( as in very f;;ll;;g cold) trip. Everything looks good, must have been chilly taking pictures! Nice to see tho. Thanks, Mark.
  16. We might ride to rdl friday, appreciate info on how far up warm/rain goes up. thanks,
  17. the pieces are coming together!!
  18. Not wanting to sound like a know it all, cause everyone here rides and has ridden Quebec, but from what you've posted re CA region covered, and coming from the Portland area, the jump off point of Quebec City would give you several options depending on snow. You cross out of Maine in Jackman staight North to Quebec City. You can stay at Berniere's Hotel on the south shore, very snowmobile friendly and reasonable price, secure parking etc, or cross the bridge and stay on the hotel strip where the snowmobile trails begin. From Quebec city you have choice of directions, all can be good, depending on weather and snow. Head East up the shorline and go either North towards Lac St jean or continue East as far as you can go. You can head West to St Raymond and travel North to Lac St jean via a couple of trails, or continue NW towards Lac Repos. The further from civilization you get, the better the likelihood of smooth trails. If snow cover is low by Quebec City, it usually begins to get better by St Raymond, which also has user friendly snowmobile accomodations. Specic trails and routing you or trail boss for trip can lay out, they'll probably all be good on Friday morning, Sat and Sun's are a crap shoot depending on club schedule's and weather.
  19. nice report, Mark, I was there, and chuckled reading about it! great time when attitudes all so positive.
