Moose Valley lived up to its name today as moose caused us grief to and from the sporting lodge! Good thing we had "Gary the moose whisper" with us!!! Today is the last day of riding for me this trip. So good to be back here and riding with Mike, Jeff and Gary. Until next time!

Looks like light grooming this AM. We hope to be there and hit the trails by 11 and get a half day in !

Was thinking of looping out to Club Hiboux for a light lunch but may head to Trois Pistoles and then to Biencourt and loop back since they did groom a little that way.

I sure love having the options RDL offers ! Missed it.

Heads up on the RDL gas situation:

Going west yesterday via the tunnel trail and then #5,

RDL gas station next to the Universel closed (heard for one week)

Shell Station 10 miles out  closed  maybe for good??

St. Bruno station at the store had sign on pumps (all we understood from clerk was 'no gas)

Not sure the town but the next one was a trail down a long hill into town,,, trail is closed and no sign at intersection

So only gas going west at the moment is Club Hiboux 65 miles out via tunnell trail or 80 miles via #5.

mike

Sorry,  forgot there is gas at the station mile from Universel at the first road crossing going towatds RDL club house to get on #5 west.

I also forgot to mention a couple other gas stations (shoudn't post til after coffee)

One is diagnally accross from the gas station next to the hotel. Just a bit of a tar road ride so never seen sledders use it.

The other is several miles out of town on #5  by the Tim Horton's and the highway interchange (not taking the tunnel trail)

Second trip this week to Moose Valley. Never tire of this ride.  250 mile day. 8:15 and back at 4:45. Two gas stops at Squatec, no coffee breaks. Lodge was very busy.

Tip of the day: Late model SkiDoo owners, check your female connector on your sled where your heated shield plugs in. My shield stopped working intermittently. Took the left side panel off and clutch cover off. Reached under to try to turn not tighter. Didn't work. Thanks to Padragon who had same problem, just hold nut and turn the female connector until tight.  Friend GKW found his connector also very loose.

Still seeing freshly groomed trails that weren't on the morning map. Also noticing the grooming map shows much more grooming at 7:30 AM than 6:30 AM.

Nice lodge, 5 or so cabins.

If not staying there great place for lunch and gas. Gas was always cash only in the past.

Moose Valley is a  fantastic day trip from Riviere du Loup.

In a nutshell,  #85 south,   left   on 44 and follow signs to St. Cyprien, then signs to Squatec. At Squatec get on 35 east for about 15 miles and take a right which is well marked for Moose Valley.  About 25 miles down you will come to an intersection.  #135 is marked for Moose valley, but #150 also goes there. Both end up at Moose Valley driveway and you can see the cabins. Big nice restaurant, great service, but can be very busy. We go counter clockwise, 135, return 150.

Gas both ways at Squatec. Any thirsty sleds should also gas at Moose Valley. (Padragon's 850 Doo need some from his can returning to Squatec, but we were running  really hard and fast the last 50 miles into and out of Moose Valley.

Been here since mid morning yesterday. As always it lives up to it’s billing.

Yesterday was damn cold but big fun. Near zero all day. Felt colder somehow. Trails were hard and fast. Some were so hard and flat it was scratchers down, seat and hand warmers up !

Today a little warmer…left at 3 degrees…not sure what it topped at but single digits and sunny. Looked for bumps anll day but no luck.

Awesome 2 days so far. Love these trails and clubhouses ! Heading to downtown RDL for dinner soon. Back at it tomorrow. Home Sunday AM.

Back here in 2 weeks for 4 nights ! 😎

Spent the night there with the wife last week. We rode in from Maine, crossed over in Fort Kent and back in through Van Buren. Great spot, cabin was very nice and food was good. Gas was real expensive but what can you do. Keep in mind kitchen closes at 6:30 and bar at7:00 and it’s an hour later in NB. That makes for an early night. Great trip

Pipemaster, did you ride north of Moose Valley?  Its incredible in that direction.

Looped St. Pamphile  today. Trails incredible. Coffee and lunch breaks. 210 miles and back at 3:00.

Drinks with Padragon, Eastmark and Lisa. Great evening.

Great ride to Rimouski and Squatec, anther day of amazing trails, and nice hard trails from the cold.  Jak and padragon broke off at Squatec for a longer loop.  210 miles was enough for me. Eastmark reminded me of the ski area lodge in Biencourt right on #35. Very nice place, food was good and lots of sledders  Fast service and nice dining hall. . Better than fighting for a seat in the tiny restaurant in Squatec on a weekend.

The gas station next door to the Universel:  one of the guys heard closed for a week. Noticed tonight the huge construction dumpster is now gone. Maybe Monday they open???

Mike,  you have easily regained your mayoral status back in RDL this year,  appreciate all the great trail feedback! What's your itinerary look like? Hoping to make a run from camp in your direction in the coming week, will you still be a Quebec resident? 🍷

Mike

Glad that worked out. We did 3 Pistols thru Squatec toCabano via 35 for fuel and stopped at the red RestoBar on 85. Cool place. Glad we stopped. Blasted 85 back to RDL. Awesome day. Heading to the round bar now.

FYI. The gas station at the first road crossing is open. It’s 1.9 miles from Universel heading toward 5 and Adventuriers clubhouse.
