Finally, we had been able to started our ride from home near Joliette!!! we were anxious about it and the last snow falls (between 9" to 6") make it became possible…

We decided to go in St-Côme to see ice sculpture festival and to make a run in St-Zénon/ Mastigouche reserve

The snow cover in the fields near home in the very south of Lanaudiere was still thin, some strechs good…

But still lean spots

Little farther in the wood sections, the trail is well snow covered but the trail snow tend to brownish in may places

We had to reach the north of St-jean de Matha to have beautiful white snow powder trail

Wood cut here but no negative impacts on the trail, all good

The temperature was not cold and the new snow not really packed yet giving a soft powder trail that does not hold as well over traffic but we won’t complain about new snow !!!

Just care for some icy spots under the snow and it rode really well

At St-Côme, we took the time to admire the beautifuls sculptures made for thier annual festival. There is more than an hundred sculptures and some are real pieces of art like by example this beautiful nature scenery… really worth the view…

We crossed the dozer that convert a nice trail condition into perfect one…

DSC09356.jpg

We stoped in St-Zenon village to fuel up and continued in Cabanon direction

We went past Cabanon on #345 trail to catch a local trail just before Mastigouche reserve entrance. Like always, this trail was #1

A brief stop at Koubec…

And we continued back with #350 trail that was pretty beated up but good snow cover. Already late for the more pics …

On the way back, conditions were good down to St-Damien but were on the thin side in St-Damien and St-Gabriel de Brandon and south of it. We passed by Berthier to go home and curiously, there was more snow and the conditions were betters and we got good conditions up home. Total : 230miles

To conclude, the last week snowfalls nicely upgrade the trail conditions in whole Lanaudiere. The north is even nicer that it already was and areas like St-Côme that had beginning conditions are now nice. It will take some more snow to improve souther areas that are ridables with passable to good condition but some lean spots. Also, the 2+ inchs of fluffy stuff we got last night after my ride surely help the conditions.

Let’s ride !!!!

How does one town have so many talented people.

Is it a rule that to live there you must first pass an ice sculpting test??

I've been thru there many times in the past 30 years and it still never ceases to amaze me.
