Port Carter to Gab is 150 miles, 145 miles logging and reserve roads, one major road. wash out to portage around 30 miles out of Gab, and 5 miles of 4 lakes and portages, unless you ride 2 miles of 389. Great country up here if you come prepared. RR

Relais up the manicougan reservoir to Fermont is 250 ish by snowmobile, shorter through the pass but not sure how much shorter and can be challenging

A winter wonderland up here in the higher elevations yesterday, we are headed back today after a short morning ride. The gang really enjoys this first trip of the season. We got to see some awesome. Territory and try out some of the new sleds. The 800 extreme expeditions still have an unresolved clutching issue that is legitimate and needs a solution, the 900 gade enduro, is ride ready, a very nice package of shocks, air suspension, and fuel efficient four stroke engine. An awesome machine for those of you who have ordered this package. The unit that got the most unique praise, was the 900 sport expedition with pro 40 shocks, a wide 42" ras front end, gade seat, This is a nice on off trail package ( albeit customized) as you get the benefit of a 154 x16 track with an articulating rear axle for better backing up. The slide rail actually touching the ground is the same as a gade 137! Think snow! best regards RR

Thanks for the info. So you recommend the manicougan to go to fermont? Did you happen to check out camp Love or camp Caribou?

Snowmonkey, Yes we were at camp love 3 years ago, camp fox this week, not sure where camp caribou is? Maybe you can give us an idea where that one is so we can put it on our visit list lol. We like searching out these places. Best regards RR

Camp Caribou is at N 51 04.784 W067 27.667 Nord Expe uses Camp Caribou and Love for layovers but i dont know details. We would like to find out more about options of staying at these two camps. Also where we could stash fuel if we dont use Relais Gab

It would appear that camp Caribou, must be at the uniforest siding that we rode through each day, while there are no structures there anymore, they may be using one of the existing camps still in the area or we did see a small rail siding building with a light on but nobody is staying at these places. Unlike Camp Love that is manned with railroad maintenance workers. It would be nice to find out what they are using for a structure.

As we kind of discussed in earlier posts, the run through the Gruex mtn pass can be challenging, and you do want good snow conditions for that run.

The run over to Gabriel, and up the lake to Gagnon and than over to camp love should be a very good alternate option, if the pass is not good. It definitely would probably 125 to 150 miles to the trip, but an overnight at Gab and than a gorgeous ride up the manicougan to Gagnon is a fun run. Something to think about. We stashed fuel at the uniforest siding every day, which sounds like it's near this camp caribou. Another good spot would on the gagnon road towards petite manicougan just north of camp love. Both relatively easy access. From the 389. I will check those coordinates and see where they land and let you know. RR

Yes the camp caribou coordinates are very close to the uniforest siding and appear to be a camp on the river just east of the uniforest siding. We did not look for this camp but suspect Nord expeditions is using someone's unmanned camp here, approx 45/ to 50 miles in from Gabriel. RR

Sounds like a challenge either way you go! We are just trying to look at all options and which one might be best when we are there, depending on weather. Thanks for the info and if you can think of anything that would help us it would be much appriciated. Im going to continue to research as well! Thanks

According to Passion Quebec, no grooming as of yet. Reports of grooming and official trail opening for Club Caribou-Conscrits on the mtn for Friday are false. Still need more snow. Said they expect more maybe thursday or friday so it could change but as of now no grooming yet.

You can ride but need to watch for rocks. (That means ah...no thanks I will wait)
