Good news on the gas for sure, too bad about the restaurant. I always head for le Madorick and Jacques the owner is an entertaining guy. Problem is the remaining restaurants will be busier than ever. JG where is the Chez Pepere? We used to go to a restaurant more in the centre of the village ( old church pew type benches in the booths ) but that to my knowledge has been closed for several years.

Norm that would be the old Karima. Chez Pepere is little more out of town, they are on a dead end trail located at the Preston river bridge on the 321, look for an A frame building, they are the dead end!

Once you’re in town you must take the sled trail bridge in front of the falls to get there, the old trail #45.

Back up for the week end to check out the snow conditions from last weeks accumulation snow fall.

Well not much left on the ground and not too cold either. Here’s a few pics of the restaurants left in town that will be open for the winter.

This is La Madorick on the south end of town

And this one is Le Resto Chevreuil the most popular in town which is the one that is closed and up for sale.

I'm sure this closure was well thought out, and most likely due to the camp ground closing this season.  Its amazing to see how interconnected everything is and the fallout when one piece goes away.

On another note, we need to get Linda involved with this.  Not sure who the local agent is, but we know for a fact Linda can sell and is quite successful.

A lot of these restaurants do a great business in season but just about stave in the off season, so if there was a camp ground closing that could be a factor. Le Madorick is very busy in winter, well weekends anyway, but dead in summer. I brought about 25 friends on motorcycles through there a couple of summers ago and we had arranged to eat there. The owner was very thankful to have the extra summer business and told me so several times. They just don't get bike traffic. Same thing when we went through a place just outside of St Donat. They go nuts in winter being on a sled trail but have to close a couple of days a week in summer. Where I live same problem, different season. My neighbour runs a hot dog stand in summer and is flooded with motorcycle clientele, but come winter there is no sled traffic and they shut down for the season and go snowmobiling with us.

Update for Montpellier

No more parking at the Riopel, property has been sold, private land now. Parking there risks a ticket and towing fees.

The City has offered parking at the Sports Pavillon in town.

So JG is the hotel closed up? Didn't they have rooms across the street . Stayed there years ago. I think that restaurant was the first place I ever tried sugar pie.

Not sure if the Motel is actually closed, the article said the property across the street in front of it that was used for parking rigs and sleds was sold.

Stay warm JG. Don't know what it is like there but over here it is well below zero and clouds of blowing snow coming off the lake with the strong winds.

Back from a 150 k run, railbed trail is outstanding but all the rest that I rode on I’ll give it a 5 out of 10. The 43 heading west of Mulet through the Parc is an 8 on 10. Still early conditions, we need another dumping to really shape up things. 319 north of the 323 heading to La Minerve is plowed and sanded for logging, I got 2 klms in and thought of Road Runner then reminded myself I got a new set of skis and runners on, u turn back. Also had a little trouble with the visor frosting up on me this morning at -25°C, turns out the visor doesn’t seal too well, time for a new helmet, had to stop at all the Relais’s and feed the stoves.

Lakes have a minimum of 10” of ice and are wind swept, after yesterday’s wind our lake is a sea of drifts, soft stuff really cuz there’s really no base, we need a thaw and some rain to help harden up a base.

Riopel in Montpellier I can say now it is official closed, not just the parking lot across the street but the hotel as well, sold!

Another 150 k today, decided to head to the Parc TQ 43. Rail bed out of the cabin got a little choppy from yesterday, local 310 to Mulet was groomed and Groomer continued up the railbed to Fecteau’s Relais.

While sipping a coke at Mulet and chatting with Jacques Fecteau a couple guys walk in and one with blood all over his face with a smashed helmet, after some conversing found out he lost control of his sled over a burn in the middle of the trail in a corner and hit a tree, 2017 Renegade with 500 k on it, he’s one lucky guy to walk/ride away from that.

On another note while riding across the Parc on TQ43 I get to a Parc road intersection where the trail would normally go left over to TQ53 but now is no longer there. Instead you continue on straight. Look on my attached map and where you see my Cyan coloured track going north off of TQ43 this is now the new TQ53. Locals at Mulet told me it will take an hour off of the ride up to Mt.Laurier this year.

Now due to how much fuel I had left (cuz I didn’t leave full) and the time of day I decided to u turn where I was, beyond that would’ve been the point of no return and I would’ve had to fetch for gas at ND de Laus and return or head to Kiamika and return making my afternoon a pretty late one and Mrs Trailblazer an unhappy one.

Back at the chalet and am prepared with lots of gas to go exploring the new routes in the Parc.

First off go visit a long time friend in Lac Castor Friday night, late arrival at the chalet hence the late departure this morning. 10 am out and about, first initiative is to head back to where I left off last time I was here and pursue further. pursure I did and when I got to the old 53 intersection with options of turning left for Notre Dame de Laus or right for Kiamika and Mt.Laurier, I chose the left to N.D. de Laus because I wanted to explore the 322 west but 8 k in I do a u turn, trail is too thin and a mountainous one, lots of whoops. Head back to the chalet for lunch. 170 k.

After lunch I decide to go back to Mulet and try the other new trail going to Val de Bois but not before stopping in Duhamel for a free test ride on some BRP products. Maximum Powersports from Hawksbury were there with all their toys. Drove the Maverick and the Defender side by sides, Maverick, Trailblazer approved 😎but the Defender is more my style.

Out of Mulet there is another trail going through the Parc via Val de Bois. After a little while riding I noticed on the GPS the trail fell back on the 43 so I continued on until the intersection of Val de Bois and ND de Laus, ND de Laus was closed off so u turn back and see where the new trail intersected with the old. Find it....check the GPS and it’s 8 k to connect to the old trail and trail is marked closed. Hmmm I opt to go for it and see why they rerouted the trail this year. Well not far in I see why, Trail was washed out by water and did some serious damage, you can get around by jumping on the pond beside the damaged part. I then quickly reconnect with the old trail at the intersection where it steers Nord for the shorter route to Mt.Laurier.

Back at the chalet in time for cocktail hour.

Why is it I can’t get away from these guys?

While riding today I would look at my IMotoniege app for some guidance and as I am writing this post I notice the app has been updated and shows the reroute that i’m posting about, the update must’ve been posted later in the day today. Check it out.
