Day 4 in Chibougamau

Domaine de la Mine D'Or.........big time brownie points, she will never stop thanking you.

A little off the beaten path but they are willing to escort you in from the club house.

I was their first snowmobile customer.

Looks like a great place.  I assume they serve dinners and breakfast? Where are they located in relation to Chibougamau and Chapais?

Hi Mario,

I think we stayed there many years ago.  It was right on the trail just before you go down into town for food or gas.  I don't remember anything outstanding good or bad about it.  It was easy to get to and like I said, downtown is 1/4 mile down the trail.

The next day to Chibougamau will be a few miles but it is a quick run up the rail bed.  You will be in early there also.  Happy trails.

Have stayed @ Motel du Lac on 3 or 4 occasions. (Matter of fact, Pud and I are booked in there on Feb 23rd on our Chibou loop).    It's fine and easy to get into the village.  They are snowmo friendly.  Gas and food are close by.

They are a advertised as a B&B but if you call in advance for supper they'll serve you one. Must call in advance!

They are located on the lake east of Chibougamau, don't remember the name, upon arrival they'll escort you in from the atv club house and when you leave Jean will bring you across the lake to the trail. Don't do it with out him!

Actually, I have stayed at the Hotel Chiboug 3 or 4 times. Rooms are very nice and  the hotel restaurant is quite good. Going down the 1/2 mile alleyway to get there is interesting. Being on the main drag downtown really does give a taste of the town, and I say that in a good way. As I recall there are lots of small stores and restaurants, lots of people wandering the streets. Its a flavorful way to see the area. I would recommend everyone try it once.  I would actually prefer to stay there than anywhere else in the area.   I'm guessing it attracts people from area outposts and villages who come to shop, or on weekends, come to celebrate life on whiskey and beer.   If you survive a Saturday night at the Chiboug, depending on your condition Sunday morning, you may get a medal of honor or a purple heart or a toe tag.  But seriously, don't pass it up. I would do it again in heartbeat. Promise, you will have a story to tell!

First time we stayed at the Hotel Chiboug we had a minor incident with a 6'10"  400lb local. After that the hair stands up on the back of my neck whenever I get within 50 miles of Chibougamou. LOL  Thought we would need more than one toe tag that night. Mike is right, you'll have a story to tell.

Hey Rev39

Was that a run in with the bouncer at the Chibougamau Ballet?

LOL

Tom

HAHA.  We always behave at the ballet.  Would be a bad phone call home to ask the wife to send bail money to Chibougamau.  LOL

Nordic is the place to stay in Chibougamau, they have a heated garage for the sleds. The first time I stayed in Chibougamau was at the Hotel Chib. We couldn't find the trail didn't know it was in the alley so we rode right down main street.Half hour after we arrived so did the police, they told us to stay off the street and they would give us an escourt out of town in the morning. That must have been a Friday or Saturday because we ended up taking a taxi to some barn outside of town where there was a heck of a party going on there evidently was some big snowmobile race there the next day. The next morning we are all ready to roll at 7:30 that was the time we told the police we would be ready to roll. They didn't show up so we rolled without them that had to be mid 1990's

We have a motion on the floor for a QuebecRider gathering at the Hotel Chiboug.

Would somebody like to second the motion?

mike

I'll second that motion.

There's safety in numbers, and i'll be right behind you Mike. Lol

Doesn' matter to me as I won't be at the gathering but I don't think there are enough extra rooms in Chibougamau for a gathering. Even if you guys book it early aal you will accomplish is to Jimmy up all the rooms for some unsuspecting group in the middle of a saddlebag trip. JMO
