Flooding around my place is a routine spring event and this year was a little worse than normal but certainly not the worst we have seen. When we decided to sell up in Montreal and move to our cottage we raised the house 9 feet and built a flood proof basement. Water often surrounds the house in spring for a few days and as long as the pumps are working the basement is bone dry. The water has gone down a bit and was about a foot higher than today.
