Mt Valin Early Ride

Well we landed this afternoon at Auberge km 31 to a nice seasoned snow base ..considering it is , yes, only Nov 29!

We quickly unloaded our gear for our 10 day stay, and than went for quick late afternoon run. Conditions are nice with a firm, solid base of one to three feet, depending on where you are, and than 6” to 8” of powder on top.  Some of the best conditions you could ask for.  Now the main trails are chewed and will need grooming tomorrow, which I suspect will happen, but once you get off those main trails it is nirvana.

A little mechanic error caused an issue with a bolt coming out of a shock 5 miles into our ride this evening, but some quick trailside repairs and we were off for a nice 60 mile run!

A run east to Labrieville tomorrow is in store.  We will have a much better feel for overall conditions than.

Think snow!

Today’s Trip 1 was a  Labrieville destination. But we did not get to Labrieville, we underestimated the amount of fuel we were going to need with the current conditions, so an early turn, got us back to km 31 mid afternoon.  Way to early to quit, so 603 Backcountry and I said, let’s go try those 900 turbos that we have in the yard. So off we went with a trail run down the 93 towards Sacre Coure.

Trip one and trip 2 ended us up with 240 fun miles.  603 and I will give out some feed back here soon on our pleasing experiences with both the Backcountry 850s and the 900 Turbos, (that we managed to run 80 miles this afternoon). Both sleds have a commanding presence for their place on the trail ,  900 turbo, or off the trail, 850bc.

Both 603 and I  have made the BC 850 our favorite choice for our riding style, but not taking anything away from the 900 Turbos. BRP has found a home run with this 4 stroker .  Oh, if I could just get that motor in the BC LOL.. it never ends on the wish list!

Today’s riding was miles of powder riding and also the Caribou conscripts had been out sprucing up the trail network today, as well, and oh what a job they do!

More riding tomorrow!

How do the 900 feel, for sure not as light as the 850, but how about verses the previous 1200?

SM, I agree with 603, The is a nice step up as the replacement for the 1200 imo. Both 603 and I commented after riding yesterday that you don’t really even feel the turbo, it is silky smooth. Nice linear pull through the complete acceleration mode.  An occasional turbo flutter on rapid deceleration🙂

Being an old 1200 4 stroke lover, I would buy that 900 turbo engine in “154 Back country edition”  in an instant. I really enjoy the torque and smoothness of a 4 stroke and would live with the weight difference😉

Riding West today, Onatchaway and beyond🙂

Happy trails

On trail does the BC gearing seem about right?

Yes Markus, everyone seems very happy with the BC, it's a great crossover sled fir both applications!   We have been Internet access challenged this weekend, hope it improves back at km 31 tonight!

We only have 1 day on ours, and the overall calibration ,(including gearing) seems darn near perfect.  How in the MPG compared to the 900T's you guys are riding?

Markus, we are running the Turbos today for a full day, will have a better comparison after that. We have 700 miles on the 850 and 135 on the turbos.

As always on our early ride, we are getting a variety of conditions,  mostly good!, but some junk too!

Love seeing the pictures and hearing about the new sleds.  Looking forward to hearing longer term opinions on the 900T.  Enjoy your trip boys!

We got a nice full day in on the 900 turbos, se sleds are awesome. They handle really nice, great smooth power and just a joy to ride. Skidoo has two big winners with the 850 Back country chassis and the 900 turbo renegades.

Both 603 and I feel the 900 turbos are getting better fuel mileage vs the 850 BC. We have 3 turbos here and 4 BC,s.

603 and I have one of each , so Rider style stays  the same lol.

we would feel fairly comfortable , thinking at this early stage the difference is somewhere in 15% range.

Younalso need to remember these models are designed for different riding conditions. So the trail leaning 900 turbos should deliver better mileage vs the 850 BC that are strung up to do off trail adventure riding too.

Also these are very preliminary experiences.

PS  the oxygen helmet still seems to be delivery great results in all conditions so far,  seems like a very nice helmet!

HAPPY TRAILS

Thanks for the detailed ride report! How does Passion Quebec compare to KM31 where you guys stayed? We are planning a trip to mont Valin but not sure what accomodations are best?

More great going today, we found the honey spot, great snow in the Escoumin area, club is groomin and the club house is open.  It appears the Sacre Coure groomed broke down on the 900 rd (aka93). This piece currently looks like the Canadian Air Force has used it for a bombing range !  Deep snow, with lots of woop dee doos!

Here are some "sled free" pics of the winter wonderland that is currently here!

Lucky schmucks

My Enduro is looking at me with tears in her headlights, a twitchy throttle and a wrestless suspension syndrome. After that broken leg last season she’s itching to pounce.

Holidays are coming soon!!!
