ENGLISH TO FRENCH/FRENCH TO ENGLISH

Going from experience here, it is very hard to learn the correct pronunciations without actually speaking them. I took a French course several years ago and it helped me a great deal. But even with that, I can read/write French a lot better than I can actually converse in it. It takes a lot of practice. Best bet would be to take a course at your local community college, and try to join in here by reading and writing on the French forums.

I found that thread on the other site very helpful, especially Belle des Neige's posts. You can try CDs also. I got by pretty good last season after using the just Berlitz software/cds; really only listening to the cds. You get to listen to and try to emulate native speakers. Been meaning to look into a CC class too. It was a lot of fun last season to practice francais with all the bartenders and waitresses.
