Hi,

We have rode the other side of the St. Lawrence River, Gaspe and New Brunswick for many years.  250-350 mile days are usual for us.

Our group has a trip planned for the end of February to this region. We are trying to make the most of our time spent. Plans are to drive to Baie St Paul. Leave from there 1st day head to Saguenay & stay the night. 2nd day, we don’t really know what’s best to do. Mont Valin region? Or Lac St Jean? Is is possible to loop around to 23 stay at L’tape the third day? Then early leave 4th day run to 23 to 369 to 3 back to the truck and drive home from Baie St. Paul.

Any help will be greatly appreciated. We are open to a suggestions or changes.

Thank you,

Chuck

From BSP to the Delta via Tadousaic up the 93 to the Delta about 260. From there up around LSJ via the 373, great trail to Chambord about 240 great place with outdoor pool and spas. from there about 200 back to BSP or take the 355 and stay in St Raymond then back to BSP on the 4th day. All those options can be shortened or lengthend depending on weather and trail conds.

Mt Valin (NOT on the Week Ends) is cool to see, stay on the main trails and you'll be fine.

Don't forget to the use the Interactive Map to plan, always underestimate the mileage you'll cover on your first trip in an area.

Thank you for that info. The ride to & around there looks good. People mention it quite a bit. What do you think? We are trying to be 150ish miles max from BSP on the fourth riding day. 83-23-369-3 to St Anne Beaupre then ride to BSP (4th day).

Thank you very much. After your last post, I mapped out a similar route. The difference was spending two days in Chambord. Then the fourth day would be from Chambord to St Anne De Beaupre. We were considering leaving from St Anne Beaupre rather than drive to BSP.  The first day would the longest. I stayed in that area once in 2002. Day tripped for 2 days.  I remember the ride from Beaupre to the casino was really nice. So I figured adding that stretch to the first day wouldn’t be a bad thing. That was my first time past Quebec City. I don’t remember the hotel name. But it was right across the street from a small bar. Parked right in front of the rooms on the main road.

Our concern with regards to the start point, is security for the truck/trailers while on the trip. We have never had any issues leaving the gear in Edmunston at any hotel. We have little knowledge of this area.

I appreciate the help

IF it was me... I may want to start out of the old FourPoints which is now a DoubleTree. it is right on 3 and gives you 3 ways to come or go. Up 23 toward letape\LSJ, 23\73 toward La Tuque or Lac Edward, or 3 toward BSP\LaMalbae\Tadosac.

(Yes my spelling sucks)

The place has secured parking and a lot of people launch from there. 2 Rental places onsite.

99% of our trips in the last 14 years start in Shawinigan, or St Raymond. Never an issue leaving trucks for the week. Both spots excellant for 3-4 day loops North

Usually avoid the Quebec city area if possible near the weekend for obvious reasons

Great loop for sure.

Was wondering if your stop by Mt Valin was just throwing a dart (near Passion) or pinning a real place:

So I zoomed in and saw this:  https://manoircarlhanjess.com/rooms/manoir/

Looks like they rent the whole joint:

My thoughts, as random as they are, were that it was close to Valin, leaving the choice  of continuing into Valin or staying a little outside, and I know there is a place there called

Carcajou, I've wanted to stop into the place and see it.

Once they have firmed up a route, everyone can suggest their favorite places along the way.

We stayed at Caracjou once to try it.  Very nice.  A little more money than the Delta or Sag but very homey, nice folks there and really good food.

Chuck,

Don't over think this first trip.  Wherever you ride around LSJ is usually really good.  Like GutZ said, stay off the mountain on weekends.  Other than that, you won't come close to seeing everything in a couple of days.  Pick a few nice places to stay at and then ride.  There are so many trails in that area, you can lengthen or shorten a day with ease.  This will just give you a taste of what is available.

I really appreciate all of the information. Quebec has always been a great community of people. Many years ago our first trips to Bas St Laurent & the Gaspe were guided by the generosity of others and their knowledge.

We pretty much narrowed down our trip and are looking for some hotel recommendations.  We are not too concerned about pricing and are willing to pay for a nicer place with great food etc…

Night 1: Quebec

I think we decided on the Double Tree by Hilton from a previous post.

 Night 2: Delta/Saguenay

I saw the OTL Gouverneur OTL which looked pretty nice? https://www.otlhotelsaguenay.ca/en/

Open to other suggestions…

 Night 3 & 4:  Chambord

I saw the Chalets et spa, also looked pretty nice.  We are planning on 2 nights so would want to be in a great location.

Thanks for your help!

We stay at the Chateau Roberval in the Chambord area.   We always stay at the Delta if we are in Saguenay.  Always good to meet fellow QR riders, and to see Bill.   Both have restaurants and easy trail access.

Doesn’t look like it is on your route but heads up to others.  We had a bad experience at Carcajou last year.   Our previous stay a few years before was great.   We have taken it off our list.
