BRP introduces a new brand of snowmobile

The BRP company in Valcourt introduces a new player in the snowmobile world.

The manufacturer presents its European brand Lynx in North America.  This is the first time in decades that a new brand of snowmobile has been introduced to the market.

First, BRP exported two “top of the range” models to North America, the Lynx RAVE RE, designed for trail riding, and the Lynx Boondocker DS, built to perform in deep snow.

Each of these models is aimed at experienced and passionate riders looking for a whole new and exhilarating snow experience, the company says.

“I have dreamed of introducing the Lynx to the North American market for ten years, not only to expand the options available to snowmobilers, but also to give them the possibility of having a very different riding experience,” said José.  Boisjoli, President and Chief Executive Officer.

"This is an exciting new chapter in snowmobile history: we're not just launching a new model: we're bringing a whole new brand to North America, which hasn't happened for several decades,"  he added.

Lynx snowmobile models are currently manufactured in Rovaniemi, Finland and exported to North America, explains Pascal Vincent, director, snowmobile product strategy at BRP.

“If there is a strong demand and the volume suggests that we should move some of the production of LYNX snowmobiles here, we will analyze that option since we have the capacity to do so.  On the other hand, it is still a little too early to tell, ”he said.

"For 2022 and for spring only, we are exporting three premium models, which will be available in North America, including Quebec."

The arrival of Lynx on this side of the Atlantic Ocean is reminiscent of the fact that the Valcourt-based company has already offered two brands in the past.  In addition to Ski-Doo snowmobiles, Moto-Ski vehicles were also part of the Bombardier Inc empire at the time.  The brand was bought in 1971 for production until 1985.

Lynx will have to carve out a niche for itself among other major players in the industry, such as Japanese Yamaha and American Polaris and Arctic Cat (another feline brand).

The unveiling of the BRP novelty took place on Wednesday during the presentation of the Ski-Doo model line for the year 2022.

“Lynx riders live to face the unknown, and they love to be the first to hit the snow and the last to leave it every year,” said Janne Tapio, former Scandinavian snowcross world champion and project manager, Snowmobiles  BRP Lynx.

“They believe the best trails are those made by nature, and they are ready to take on the toughest challenges with a modern and active driving experience.  This is what the Lynx brand offers.  "

Lynx models will be available for purchase this spring only, with a retail program that requires a deposit at select BRP dealers in North America, the company said.

The new BRP arrived at the same time as the one announcing the merger between Taiga Motors Inc., an emerging Quebec manufacturer of electric snowmobiles, and Canaccord Genuity Growth II Corp.  The transaction required an investment of $ 100 million and an additional private placement of $ 100 million in Taiga.

The return of the Mach Z

The Club BRP 2022 Ski-Doo / Can-Am event heralded the return of the "legendary" Ski-Doo Mach Z, which is returning "in force for a limited time" to the lineup.

It is said that the snowmobile was designed "for speed, including an all-new 180 horsepower engine" as well as an "industry-exclusive launch mode".  The Mach Z also has a large digital display.

Shares of BRP (DOO) on the Toronto Stock Exchange opened higher Thursday morning and then lower during the day.  The stock closed at $ 91.53 on Wednesday.
