At least 10” before any red stakes. 12” better. You have to think about groups stopping together. 5-6 sleds with gear and people is heavy. Ice needs to be strong. The 6-8” now is passable but i would hesitate to gather out on the ice in groups. The club needs to know its safe for people who do stop on ice. Before putting up red stakes.
