What a disaster that animal should have been tranquilized and relocated..wildlife protection agents???

Very sad.

cheaper to kill it than to relocate it.

they had a helicopter and drones to track it but no cage for it in region to then relocate it

Government at work. Oh yeah.

fly the helicopter across the river and pick up a cage no? Makes too much sense. We cannot do that, shoot it.

I just found this statement from the ministry of Quebec on the APTN website:

The Ministrie has been working with provincial and local governments to safely transport the polar bear back to its natural habitat or to the polar bear sanctuary of the zoo in St Felicien. Unfortunately, due to enforcement of current Covid regulations, all containers approved for bear transportation are currently occupied by those who have chosen to disobey said regulations. Since the Canadian government is still not approved to execute its citizens, the bear had to go.

The Ministrie would like to thank the offer from Thomas Rohlman to use his trailer to transport the bear, but unfortunately it’s only approved to transport large cats. We would also like to thank him for his subsequent offer to purchase the bear skin, which will now reside at pourvoirie kanawata.

Sincerely,

Jean-Donald LaGlace

Directeur, Ministrie du Quebec

Zero excuse for not tagging and relocating this animal...so much to learn...about the bears and who should be doing this job...who ever made this decision should be fired immediately. These bears come into Labrador in large numbers every spring...none are killed.

I agree, someone took the easy way out. I have read many articles saying polar bear numbers are on the decline.  A tranquilizer dart and the helicopter with a sling back across the river.

The now deceased bear, was today described as a “healthy young male”

so glad they had to kill it to announce this news.

I mean no shit Sherlock it swam across the friggin river to get there

it didn’t come by ferry. Hell half the time the ferry does not sail. More government mismanagement.

But....wear your mask. Ca va bien aller.

  • 3 weeks later...

The actual concern was if they caged and trucked it back north, they'd have to put it on the Gauthier to cross the St Lawrence and it would sink, the bear would swim away, and track down the a$$hole who approved such a Sh!tty Vessel.......

Sad to See the result.

Scared because the paper would\could have read " On his second attempt to go around the Gaspe MrGutZ was eaten by what he thought at first was a big dog...."
