First off LOVE this site!!! So Gald Bill told be about it at the springfield show Thank Bill. All the Pics are great and its so nice to be on a site with people that ride the same places I do and some That I have not yet. Witch leads to my Question.

OK heading up to the Holiday inn in Jonquire end of Jan and plan to ride over to and around Gaspe. Been wanting to do this for a LONG time. Talked to Bill a LOT at the show and he gave us many good tips and a Map. But always looking for more info. My biggest worry is getting on the farry, If we miss it it could kill the hole trip for us. So I would like more info on that and a # to call to find out more once we get up there maybe. Sounds like it runs 2 times a day and there are 2 spots to get it??

How would you go also and what do we NOT want to miss on our loop??

PS. Been ridding from St Zenon aire for 17 years, started making loops from there to new spots, Rode up to and around LacSaint Jean 4 times from there and last year was the first time we drove up there so we could get out to new spots.

if larger than 5 give them a call the day b 4

According to the latest info I have the ferry runs from Baie-Comeau to Matane on Sunday 6PM, Monday 5PM Wednesday 11AM and Friday 5PM. This schedule is from Jan 5 to March 31, 2010. I would darn sure make reservations. I've been on it 4 times and all 4 times it has been full. From Godbout to Matane the schedule is Monday 11AM, Tuesday 5PM, Wenesday 5PM, Thursday 5PM, Friday 11AM and Saturday 11AM. It does not run on Sunday from Godbout to Matane.

From the HI to Les Escoumins via 93 and 3 is 180 to 190 miles, if you go 93 and then take the private trail back onto 3, it is 175 miles. Les Escouminis to Baie Comeau to 170 miles, Les Escoumins to Godbout is 225 miles.

I agree 100%, even though it is short only 65 miles. this is likely my favorite trail in all of PQ.

Actually if you rode the St. Zenon area for as long as 17 years as Bill has....you'd have to agree the trail to Rosies would be a favorite.

Aahh Rosies, good times and mayhem had there. Not as good as years ago though when Francois (sp?) owned it. Changed hands a couple time. Would rather go south to Pierres place

Welcome to QuebecRider. It's a great site.

Here is my 2¢ worth.

Looking at the ferry schedule, it leaves Baie-Comeau at 5 PM. It leaves Godbout at either 11 AM or 5 PM depending on which day.

Godbout isn't a very big town and doesn't have much for accommodations that I know of. Baie-Comeau on the other hand has a few motel/hotels and plenty of facilities; gas, food, sled dealers, etc.

If you plan your trip to stay overnight in Baie-Comeau then you can do the roller coaster ride to Godbout in the morning and catch the 11 AM ferry. Be to the ferry an hour before departure to get a good spot in line. First in means first out at Matane.

If you don't want to ride the roller coaster, plan your trip so you arrive at Baie-Comeau early afternoon, grab a bite to eat and then head to the ferry. You will catch the 5 PM ferry.

I have heard stories of the ferry getting ice bound trying to get into Matane at night and they have to sit out in the river until a coast guard cutter comes in to break the ice for them. I prefer the early ferry.

I always make reservations. It doesn't cost anything to make the reservation and it gives you peace of mind. Also, I think the sleds with reservations are loaded onto the ferry before the sleds without reservations.

Depending on which ferry you take, you can then make plans for your reservations on the south shore. Matane has plenty of accommodations if you decide to stay there.

Around Gaspe there are plenty of places to stay.

Take your time and enjoy the ride. I hope you have a great trip.

Have to agree, the trail there is well traveled. Some interesting times in there years ago!

I agree it was interesting to ride there a few years back. Lots of people and sleds, mostly on weekends or as I called them weekend warriors. Trails got beat to death! I did not ride in that area last year, but the last couple of times that I did the traffic was very low and the trails where smooth and fast. It is still a very nice area to ride with lots of places to accommodate your needs. I am just trying to show support for all the regions in Quebec, as they are all an important part of Quebecs incredible trail system!

BE CAREFUL ON FERRY,

Years ago the guys I were with got stuck on the ferry. The ferry had a bar!

Never took the ferry from Baie Comeau sounds like an adventure though

From Godbout is easy access for sure.

Godbout had gas station and had an open motel right across from the gas nothin fancy but it works. Warm and Happy.

Ferry is cool trip for sure did it as part of a 2 week trip from Shawinigan to Lac st Jean to Sept Isles and across to Matane from Godbout and back on

the south shore and crossing on the truck at Trois Rivere was an awesome ride.

i never never seen land like it up and down all the way i cant see how they even can groom some spots

yeah for sure is some big ups and downs on the trail between les Escoumin and all the way to Sept Isles.

Nice views of the Seaway going east and west

nice run for sure.

Both times I was there was plenty of snow and not much traffic

Grooming was sweet for sure last year and the year before

There is a section between I believe is Forrestville and Baie Comeau where there is a bridge crossing on the main highyway and they have an escort truck for the sleds

it waits for sleddeers by the road and then they follow you across keeping your ass covered from the traffic

I think is 7 am to 5pm or something but I wouldn't want to play on that bridge in traffic.

Not sure of exact hours of operation but is not 24 hrs I know that.

Is a long bridge fairly narrow 2 lanes no shoulder really hence the escort truck

was different I have never seen this anywhere else in Quebec. (the escort truck) NOT full of Hookers (sorry)

Hope you have lots of time both areas (gaspe and lk st jean) each require a week to see most of it, if your plan is to see all of both areas you are talking huge miles plus the down time for ferry and drive time to start .I have done both areas numerous times and my group rides big miles. I would pic one area and enjoy it

Bill, if you are planning to ride around the gaspe there is no need to drive all the way to jonquiere.there is some good riding around lac st. jean but kinda foolish to leave from there to go to the north shore and the gaspe.I would recommend driving about an hour north of Quebec city to Baie St. Paul there are a few motels there you can leave from trail access is right there you can hit the casino if you want and will cut alot of driving time.we always try to ride at least as many miles on the sleds as the round trip in the car!
