Due to a mechanical failure majeur of the surfacer😮‍💨 the trail linking Lac Bouchette to Lac Édouard will be out of service for a minimum of 6 days depending on the repair time at the dealer!!!

Looks like some other club stepped in and groomed it according to imotoneige!!!

I think it was last year??? A landowner across the street from the gas station was upset about something and closed his property. Not sure if I have that right though.

Reading between the lines in the comment section on the Passe Partout page it sounds like one of the local landowners is upset because he has to buy a trail pass to ride on his own land once the federated trail runs through said land. Another example was put forward in the same comment. Landowner wants to have his friends come up to camp for the day on his land, they have to have a trail pass or run the risk of receiving a fine while running the part of the federated trail on that private land on the way to camp, even if they have permission from the landowner. A few of the other comments pointed to people riding off trail and the landowner has had enough.

I think a patrol officer gave a ticket to someone on private land and no one had enough common sense to make it go away for the greater good. Now we have a problem.

Hard to believe Eva is closed. Anyone get the scoop on that development?

It would seem fair to me that any land owner that lets the trail go through his property should receive free trail passes for him and his direct family members, meaning parents and children, not to include cousins Tom, Dick and Harry.

I heard from a friend that was nominated to be the president of a club that he had to buy a trail pass to be the president. Kind of silly really. The guy has his hands full running the hotel and restaurant in town, no one wanted to be the president in that small community, so they basically forced it on him. As a thank you, they hit him for some cash in order to donate his time.

It’s the little details that fall through the cracks sometimes.

Exactly what i saw in comments as well and yes is crazy the landowner cannot get one free pass not 12 but at least one

The administration work to say landowners can have a free permit is easier said than done. What if next he wants a permit for his wife's sled, or his grand child's sled. What if he doesn't live on the property or any roads on the lot except the trail. Thousands of private pieces of land are crossed in the province by sled trails, should every landowner get a free permit. Should they get free running on 33,000 km of FVMQ trail because the trail crossed 200m of their private land??

Easy to say give them a free permit.....however where do you draw the line. This sort of thing needs to be dealt with at the club level.

Careful of the precedence that you set. You may open Pandora’s Box.

An acceptable way around this situation if it is the only available route for a trail may be for the club to just give the landowner the equivalent money to what a permit costs and he can use it to purchase his permit.

I guess a small dose of common sense would go a long way in these matters. It is certainly easy to understand someone being upset about being fined for being on their own property. But what is the whole story? Exactly how big is the section of trail on this guy's property? Does he ride elsewhere in the Province? The bottom line is that every sled on the trail needs to have a pass. I don't see how the cost of the trail pass could come anywhere close to covering the cost of keeping the trail system up and running. You have to pay to ride, period.  However, it would seem logical that discretion with enforcement could eliminate some of these urinating contests.

When you already pay farmers to cross their land in Saguenay and elsewhere.

Its ok for farmers? Then they can give some passes to others. Not 10 per landowner but must be a reasonable solution.

What does a pass cost the FCMQ besides printing and mailing it?

Not the clubs buy passes and give them it’s up to the FCMQ to give them. With No expense to clubs.

The FCMQ can not be held hostage and blackmailed for land usage. Reroute the trail or close it. Giving away free permits or setting a pressident that this will not pay for groomers and grooming. Snowmobiling at the provincial level is a business, and businesses have to make money. The sport can not survive as we know it today if the only land we ride on is crown.

They already pay for using land so where does pay for grooming and groomers?

Too late like i said earlier they pay farmers for passage but normal folks get nothing. Seems logical.

Once they started to pay the farmers it’s there they shot themselves in the foot.

Good to hear that a solution was found.

Back to my other question….what was the story with Auberge Eva? Seemed to have enough traffic, so I assume it was not a financial deficit that forced the closure. It was better than eating at the gas station in Lac Bouchette. I guess it’s back to lunch at Lac Edward.

Apparently negotiations continue and no resolution for the trail 355 as yet. Stay tuned.

i have no clue with Eva? Great location for sure. I know they had tourists from Europe on sleds with guides quite often as well.

Wish I could tell you something solid.
