2025-2026 Shawinigan Snow Reports

  • Gold Donating Member

12 December

-7c flurries

Been slacking on this we have had a few small storms and then yesterday about 6-7inches.

Over a foot of snow on ground

Tonight Mrs sends me video of groomer they are working to fill in the ditches and make a premiere pass no drag.

So if you had 12 December in the groomer pool you win. We all are winning… no?

Most trails I seen open in December in many moons.

Not open here yet and need a bit more cold for ice crossings. And more snow.

All “soon come” as said on the island.

That's a beautiful sight.

And we are all winning!

Thank you for the updates again Don. Looking forward to getting up there again soon. Put in a great 130 mile ride here in NY yesterday, but not the same.

Don’t really even want to talk about how much it rained today.

Cold is returning maybe next it will help in the long run with a solid base.

But ugly today.

1.45” today of rain in North East PA took down 10” of snow to bare ground today. Cold came in and snowing now.

Yeah very discouraging, felt like this was finally going to be a great start.

It was several weeks ahead of schedule the snow and cold

probably a month ahead cause it was like a switch was flipped. Early November. But as with most years i can remember lately there is always the warmup with a good rain usually Christmas week but it’s early this year just like the cold weather was in November.

It will bounce back

Where they have been grooming will be spectacular trail base with the re-freeze.

Patience.

Yes it will be fine, we plan to be there 1/16 for the first trip. Don, have you spoke with the new owner of Drakkar this year? Hopefully he will continue the great service started by Bernard and later Reggie. Thank you

Honestly no, I have not spoke with or met the new owner. Reggie became and still is a friend. I am sure they will do the best they can to carry on the great service. Tough for me to return there and Reggie is not there. Bernard I met once, went to get a free beer. But never stayed at Safari. But enjoyed smoking cigarettes with Bernard in the lobby while drinking my free beer talking with Bernard. Ah,the good old days.

I heard a few things were not great to start but this was all new to the new owner. Not sure they seen snow before. Gotta give a bit of a break to start. This year we will see. I guess.

Great news!

Don, I just booked rooms at Drakkar for 1/16-1/19 hoping trails will continue to get better. I did notice the local trail leaving Drakkar to get to 3 still shows closed. I was just curious if you have been by there to confirm or not that they actually have the trail closed/open or see any sign of grooming it from there? That would make a difference in staying there or not. Thank you.

As an FYI I talked to the owner at Drakkar and he will NOT be charging for your vehicle parked there if you are staying there like he did last year but will of course if you leave it for a trip. He said he will try and make room for your sleds in the garage if you need it as well. Sounds promising.

Hi Chris, though not officially open yet many people are riding to Mc Donalds and gas there. I just passed the trail at the end of the industrial park and it was groomed.

I motoneige not accurate sadly

This seems to be a bigger issue this year. Maybe we are just too anxious.

Thanks Don. It’s nice to have first hand info and I figured you would have it. I will keep you posted as the time gets closer to maybe meet up for a ride or a drink.
