  1. You can trailer to the 31. Huge lot for parking, and you can change inside, eat and get gas there. You can also trailer to the ski-area, bigger lot, food and gas, not so easy to get dressed inside, but can be done. More traffic on that side of the mountain.

Thanks-safe parking at the 31? How long of a drive from the city to 31?

  2. All main trails were freshly groomed since yesterday. I was probably the first on about ~50 miles of it..nothing better. Overall, I rode about an even split of groomed FCMQ trails, ZEC trails, and off trail. All were excellent except 93 between Valinouet and Chapelle [as expected] and the 477. I stayed in the city, trailered up each day after breakfast, and was back by 4pm, covering 600 miles in 3-days. It's going to be a zoo up here next week, good luck to all that hit the trails...

We're heading up next week-this will be our first trip to Mt Valin-with no lodging available on the mountain. We're looking to also stay in the city-based on this and your most recent ride-where would we trailer to? Looking for a place to change into our riding gear-any input on where to ride would also be great. I see that more trails are going to open this weekend.

  3. Thanks for the update. Wow so 50 miles west of Onatchiway? Going toward Scooby Raid i guess. Or in the Zec Onatchiway maybe. The air medic is a great deal for 75 bucks for the year. I thought they were bankrupt and shut down. We need to spread the word on Air Medic.Yeah Spot would get the ball rolling so to speak but there is nothng in my opinion better then a Sat Phone. and GPS to give your location of course.Expensive yes, How much would you pay to see another day? What is your life worth? Also if you have a Sat Phone, GPS and or Spot or even a regular cell phone, make sure all the members of your group know how to use them all and know where you keep them. You might not be able to tell them.

How good is cell phone reception in this area?

    Where were these pics taken?

Speedy, I thought that was you. Did you call Onatchiway? They are really nice people, a little further west of the Chapel, which might not be a bad thing, as that seems to be ground zero for all the Honiaks.

The last set of pics were taken on Sunday morning as I ran up the highway known as Bras Louis.

Worst come to worst just book a room at the Holiday INN (HI) in Jonquiere and drive up for the day, I know it's not ideal, but sure beats not having a place to stay. I think one of the other members might have suggested that already, it is a viable option.

When I spoke with one Maurice's employees at the place you called when we spoke, he told me that Saturday night there was not a room to be found in town near the hill, I would bet that is right for just about every week end for the next month

Come to think of it, you could stay on the other side of the mountain at Hotel Pelchat, Martin is responsible for grooming the Pelchat trail, and is extremely well versed with the area. Just another option for you if the choices become limited.

Thanks for the info-is this the place in Onatchiway?

I'm hoping they open more trails by then-called up there today-they got another foot of snow from last night to this morning!

All of the lodging in Mt Valin is booked next week-Im still looking for a place to stay in Mt Valin vs down in the village.

    Thanks again for the pics!

  6. hi speedy !!

i just checked at 2 different places for trail conditions ,i can t see that trails are open in that area.i saw somewhere on the net that the club in tourelle started grooming ,but looking at those 2 place where i checked for trail conditions ,not confirmed yet .

i know that before the rain last week there was roughly 8 '' of snow in the matane and mont joli area.they probably only packed the snow .i won t tell you to come up here right now !!keep your money for later !!

matane is only 50 miles north and mont joli 55 miles west and we have only 5-6 '' in town.

i learned this afternoon that a friend of mine went to my camp,10-12 '' there max .....and 30 miles outside town.

    groomer !!!

Thanks for the honest update-was hoping to come over that way during the week of 12/26-may need to head up to Mount Valin-hope there isnt alot of sled traffic durin the week up there-as I heard weekends are crazy. This would be our first trip to Mt Valin-any tips?

  7. Good guess Iceman, I would agree. That spot is not far off the power lines on 267. There's a good chance that's groomed, it usually is this time of year, but that brook always takes a while to freeze up. There are usually sticks in the trail, but some times nothing. I've seen a few guys flip their sleds while trying to cross it. Last year was the first time I couldn't ride through it, the nose of the sled just hit the ice, and the water is about a foot deep. Would have done serious damage if you didn't stop. This pic is after a little work...

wow-shoould freeze up with the cold weather tonight and the extended forecast looks to stay cold-geez by the size of this hole-maybe the club should install a small bridge.

  8. Like I said not sure of exact location. So not sure if this trail has been "opened by club" yet. Just saying.

Good point-when its early in the season-we all need to slow down a bit-I have had to be creative and cut tree limbs to mark washouts before-as they really do sneek up on you.

  9. 44 y/o male airlifted to Chicoutimi with open fractures of the femur and arm. Riding on trail its said he hit a stream and was ejected then struck by another snowmobile. Did not say exactly where but i have a good idea if its the spot I am thnking of. I know Scorpionbowl has a pic of one place that is always running still this time of the season and makes a giant hole across the trail. Between Bras Louis and 93. Anyway must have been really bad, very early conditions too be all mashed up this early in season. Could have been much worse then fractures so lucky I guess.

Need to relax a little its only december.

Not good-you would think that the local club would mark this washout with stakes.

  10. Looking good over there Groomer. You got much more snow then we have here right now. I know you are itching to get in your machine as bad as we want to ride your awesome Miles and Miles of Smiles. It's coming.

    Hi Groomer!

How much snow do you have?? Will the trails be groomed and ready to ride after christmas? Looking to come up on 12/26-12/30
