  1. I'm on Washington Mt Road every morning. We usually test and tune in Oct Mtn Forst if snow comes early enough.

If not we use Beartown or Windsor.

    Can't wait for Snow!

Same here but only on Sunday mornings. Lots of time I start in Sandisfield and take the corridor rt 95 to OMSF and poke my way into Windsor. Haven't been to Beartown in years.
  2. Totally agree with Phil. I am 3 hrs from Mt Valin. The early riding is just how Scorpionbowl says. Have been there done that. I can understand wanting to ride really bad but for me, personally I prefer the late season runs. Early is sketchy and not the trail condition that you expect from Quebec.

Same here. Best trips have always been in March. Could remember only once riding Mt.Valin around turkey day and had a good time.

  3. Hey Jeff, are you getting and itchy thumb too? That trail was the nicest stretch of land to rip on in that area. I remember seeing arctic cats blown up on that trail. Not knocking AC either. Later dudes, great info this early in season , I love it

Back in the late 80's when a lot of guys started buying into the mod motor thing for trails up there that old railroad bed became quickly known as piston city seeing a number of blown up sleds over the years. Too bad as time went on these guys never got the message especially around Mont Tremblant their loud sleds were not appreciated. Last time i rode that section was in 04....sure be nice to have something back again.

  4. This was in St. Maurice on TQ 3. Between say Safari and Rogers Cabin. I believe its the club montoneige Champlain, not 100% on that. Just a side note also did not see any trail passes on the wreckage, could have been pirates, so not sure on their rights for compensation.

Did note in one of the pics the polaris had plates on it. Could not see anything for the cat. Amazing the rider on the cat didn't get seriously injured....the sled is destroyed. Still...not the brightest thing leaving that drag where they did. Scary stuff.

  5. Nothing really new about what items you can bring into the states from canada. I could remember over 25 years ago they confiscated certain vegetable and food items from us at the border after telling them what we were bringing back.

I guess they have inspections before getting approval upon entering on this stuff. The main thing is not to deny it.

  6. Can't remember exactly but i think it was in late jan or early feb of 84 we tried to go from St Michel des Saints to the Rouge Matawin Cafeteria after a huge storm dumped through the region. The snow banks on the main road from Saint Michel to the park entrance alone were well over 12' high. It turned out to be a weird week....a couple days later it rained heavy...and the temps hit nearly 70 degrees for the next 3-4 days...turned all the snow/ice to mud. We were basically stranded where we were staying at the pines. Nothing to do but a bunch of water skipping on lac taureau till we killed our sleds from too much power washing.

  7. I started to watch it and had to stop half way thru. If that's real then this world is going crazier than I thought. That's as bad as the anti hunters standing in front of loaded guns. Where do people find the time and energy to even worry about this stuff? Why aren't they out contributing to the economy of the world?

I doubt these lost souls even know what an economy is.

Btw..iceman that was some funny chit.

  8. Lmfao the world is full of crazy bastards. Me I cry like that come April when things are all melty. I like to sit in the mud and scream for the snow to come back and stay a little longer. I apologize to all the snowflakes for ripping them all up. You should try it. Good therapy for sure.

Sort of feel sorry for them. Imo.. these people need some professional help. They shouldn't be on the loose without adult supervision.

  9. Hi All,

Our group is looking to see Mt. Valin this year - we have the week of 1/16/11 - 1/22/11 and will be crossing into Canada via NY! We would like to cut the truck time down and make it sled time, so we are looking for a good starting point and route - two different routes for the trip up and back would be great! How many days should we plan to ride around Mt. Valin? I was thinking 2 days to get up there, 3 days around Mt. Valin, and 2 days to get back to the truck! Our only Quebec riding thus far is around the St. Donat area, we are looking forward to exploring some new areas - in March we have the Gaspe planned!! :)

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Many times we use to start in St. Jovite and make our way to Mt Valins. Takes about 2 1/2 days at the least with 3-4 of us. Not sure what you have in mind for a return route, but its a good weeks ride at any rate going the most direct route.

Sometimes the south side of Lac St. Jean has poor snow conditions at that time of year which may force you to take the longer nw route around.

  10. I agree that it would be unlikely that they would issue a ticket but there is always the cop that wouldn't want to hear the reason and write the ticket anyways. I haven't heard what the fine is yet. It may be more zoned in to the drinking crowd, lots of accidents occur after the bars close!

I wonder if our season's pass will be a third less? After all, we are losing a third of a day to ride!

Every year the noose gets a little tighter..

Feel sorry for the guys that ride in on sleds....they will be forced to spend less time at the ballet. :shok:

  11. Gee... i never looked at it that way. Back in the days of mostly fan cooled or free air sleds with 7 gal fuel tanks and not much else we use to think the definition of a badass sledder was one that could ride from places like St.Zenon to Devils Mt and back by the next day, or head from St Zenon to La Tuque and be back for supper. That was our right of passage. Now its like taking the family car and all its comforts on a trip.

  12. Yeah...other than the bunkhouse...can't really complain much about the place either when its location is key.

We've rode in more than once in -30 temps at around 5:00 pm deciding whether to get gas and press onward to La tuque or spend the night there....kind of a no-brainer. If anything that place needs to expand.

  13. Leaving for a week quad ride around Gaspesie. This is a magnificent place to see in the summer.

Good luck on that trip and hope you have a great time also. Never thought of a quad trip around Gaspesie it sounds fantastic...have only done it on sleds.

Btw...I see your from western Ma....I often ride throughout that part of the state and have never heard of that club as far as sleds go. Atv or quad club I assume?

  14. I was hoping it connected 83 to 93, that would be outstanding. If only you could go straight(ish) north from Parent up to Chib or near it dumping you on the 93. I know the owner of the restaurant/gas station in clova picks his way up to Chib on the power lines with a long track but a real trail up would be perfect!

I've been fishing years past throughout that region...they certainly have enough existing logging trails that interconnect to get it done if they wanted to.

  15. I've been shooting for 2000+, I know it seems low, but with my youngest brother still having border issues, we ride in the States as well, so the miles do not rackup as quick, just the aches, pains, issues, confusion, etc... that come with riding around here.

    GutZ

Similar issues here except have no brother that rides sleds...just a job i can't get away from again. Be lucky to pile up 1k miles here in the area. Yeah...i know all about those aches and confusion riding in Ma. : :drinks:

  16. This is the trick, this is what the dealers do when they have a stubborn clutch. This is also what they taught us in the schools. Make sure the threads on the puller are lubed.

Grease is good...its the hammer part that isn't. Can't believe ski-doo would recommend the hammer part. You can flat spot the crank bearings if hit hard enough.

  17. I'd avoid using a hammer as it can cause damage to the crank bearings. You really need a good clutch holder and clutch puller that a lot of torque can be applied to. Some guys have had good success with an impact gun or using a propane torch gently heating the clutch main shaft and sheaves while putting tension on the puller.
