Gas a Le Domaine again at La Verendrye lodge at the 63/386 intersection again at Kitcisakik (cash only last week) and again at Lovicourt.

FYI. If your looking at Via Explora the mileage is off by 20mi. 63 drops down to La Verendrye this yr. adding 20mi to the 63/386 n.

Thank you much.  Doesn't sound like there will be an issue running this then.   Appreciate the insight.

  2. Just wondering about gas between Maniwaki and Senneterre.  None is shown on the interactive map.  Are there stops on 63/386?  Would like to avoid going into Senneterre if possible as we would head east on the local over to 83 and Lac Fallion.   Any help on fuel stops would be great.

    Thanks

  3. How were snow conditions in Maniwaki?  Planning on heading there next Thursday and notice a forecasted warm up for a couple days. Wondering if conditions are strong enough to with stand a few daytime temps above freezing.   We are leaving and heading in the direction you did, hopefully to Lac Fallion for the first night.  Assuming gas is available on this run?

    Thanks!

  4. Hello all.  What a great start to the season.  For those of you who use a GPS, I was wondering what kind of TOPO Base Map you might use.   I have been looking for one and not sure, which one would provide the most detail, including forest roads, etc.   Obviously cost is also a consideration.

Thanks for any help anyone may have to offer.

  5. Thanks for all the info.  I am a member of the Northern FB page and Dan from Allagash indicated that he is maintaining this trail again this year with his sled and sled groomer.  He said he has it signed and opened up.   That's pretty amazing for one person to do.  I hope all who might use that trail give him a huge shout out.   Thanks for explaining the gas station thing, I had read that on dootalk as well, but they didn't offer an explanation as to why you couldn't stop, just to make sure not to stop.   Probably heading up the last week of January, hoping the great start the area is off to continues.

  6. Well, I guess I hadn't checked to see if the trail is being maintained this year yet.  Just starting to plan at this point.  Does anyone know if there's a place to get a Quebec day permit near the Jackman border crossing?   I think we would like to start there and finish in Estcourt Station.

Thanks so much for the info thus far.  It's really appreciated.  It's been years since I've ridden Maine and I have never ridden this particular part of Quebec.

  7. Hello all, was thinking about running up through Quebec from Jackman Me and crossing back over in Escourt Station.    I had a couple questions and was hoping someone might be able to help me out.

    1) Looks like we could cross the border in Jackman anytime during the day, but would be limited in Escourt Station.  Does anybody know what the open times are?

    2) Quebec trail pass, can we pick these up just outside the Jackman border when we cross?  If so, where's the best place

    3) Lodging in Escourt Station or Pohenegamook, is there any available?  If we were to stay on the Quebec side that night with the intent to cross back into Maine first thing in the AM, would a valid trail pass be required to cross?  We could make the run up in one day, but likely not much further than that.  Concerned that the only lodging might be in Pohenegamook.

Thanks for any help anyone may have to offer.

  8. Rode the 33 earlier this month as well not sure whats up now with it.

I was on trail 33 on the 5th of January and it was very good. Came back down from being up north on the 9th and it was terrible. They have plowed a significant portion of it down to the dirt. Must be doing some logging operations. There were no signs or indicators present. I actually almost piled my sled up as I come around a bend that was on the way down a hill on a real nice freshly groomed section and the snow plow driver pushed a bunch of snow up into the trail. Launched my sled and almost lost control. After getting through that section, we came across the next section that was actually opened up with a a loader. There was no snow on the sides or left for the snowmobiler.

At Parent you can rent a cottage 75.00$ +10.00 each Ombre du Vent (2-3 km)

an for dinner au new place ( but old) La Station just beside Hotel central

A another motel, the name is ???? http://www.allianced...om/crbst_4.html

Around Chibougamou you have Motel Capisissit, at Oujé Bougoumou, Indian Cree Nice place , But no beer or wine there :nea: look on my photo-report with Alain

http://www.ouje.ca/hotel/index-fr.php and new museum to visit

I would continue through Parent and ride another 66 miles and stay at Clova. Neat place, good people and good food. You will need a reservation though. There number is on the FCMQ Map.

  9. Chriswright what would you say the milage is from LSQ to Chapais?

This is a post from another thread, confirms my notes of 135 miles.

Just rode Val d'Or to Chibougamau Sunday with my wife. We filled up at the station in Lebel-sur-Quevillon, it was 135.5 mile to the station in Chapais. It took 8.5 gallons to fill each sled, so we technically had 1.5 gallons still available. The trail to Waswanipi looked terrible, glad we didn't try it. There is gas available in 5 gallon cans in Demaraisville. Talked to a couple guys in Chibougamau that had bought gas in Desmaraisville, said there sleds didn't run right, so not sure of the gas quality there. There is no gas available in Miquelon.

  10. Read on another thread that some folks had trouble finding Wasinipi. It was my group that broke trail here a little over a week ago. Trail boss in town said that it would be marked soon, but as of now, other than the sign off 93 there's nothing. You follow the trail until it hits a plowed road, like someone else said, it sort of looks like a plowed driveway. Turn right here and follow to the next intersection, also a plowed road. Its a bit confusing becuase there are sled tracks everywhere through here. Once you get to the next intersection, turn right again. This will also be a plowed road. Follow this all the way out to the main road and turn right. You will have to ditch bang for about two klicks into town. The gas station is just on the otherside of the bridge. I would advise visiting only during day light hours.

In summary, follow trail to plowed road, turn right. Follow to a T, turn right on plowed road and follow to main road. Turn right and ditch bang to town.

  11. Desmaraisville?? I don't know. A user on the french forum said pretty much what I posted above. According to his post, you can get gas at the convenience store in Desmaraisville. They have several 5 gallons gas cans.

    Bonjour

Just got back from riding this area. Gas was available when we went through in Desmaraisville (5 gallon cans). Broke trail to Wasipini and trail not marked. First time we had ever been there. We were lucky to find it. Ran into the trail boss while at the station. He indicated that they planned on opening and signing in the next couple weeks. Station looked relatively updated. Would not recomend going there at night though. We were able to gas up at the sawmill on the way to LaDore as well. Would think the gas in Desmariasville might be hit or miss, but at least its only a couple klicks off the trail so no big loss in checking it out.

  12. Hello all. Your input has been awesome in helping plan our trip. I was mapping some stuff out tonight and it looks like we might be able to squeeze in some extra miles. Never been to Saint Jean before. Will you provide me with some insights? Are there good places to hang out here or should we try to press on and head over toward Mt. Valin. We are a younger group and planning on doing the trip across the top from west to east. By the time we get to this area we are going to be looking for some night life. Open to suggestions from the group as to where to stay. We think we should be able to make it to Saint Jean area by Wednesday night and hoping to get back to St Michel Des Saints by Friday night. I could be wrong, but it looks like you can do this trip in one day. What do you guys think? Suggestions?

Here's an abbreviated version of what I have so far....

St. Michel to Clova - Spend Night (Auberge Et Clova - is this ok)

Clova to Chapais - Spend Night (Motel Le Routier - is this ok)

Chapais to Saint Jean - Spend Night - WHERE?

    Now what?

Is this doable? Looks like its about 300 mile days, which we are used to, but trails can vary besed on amount of twisties, etc.

    Thanks for any additional insight.

  13. Thanks to all providing responses. The information is much appreciated and will be taken under advisement. My group loves hearing about the "must ride" trails, those make for an awesome journey. Will keep you posted. Tentatively planning the run for late January, unless Maine gets some snow, which then we will probably do Maine and the Gaspesie.

    Always welcome to more input.

  14. Hello all. Looks like winter might be thinking about setting in.......Great News!!!! Wanted to see if anyone could help me. We are thinking about doing a tour this year, which includes the top part of Quebec and I am not sure about gas. None of us currently have gas caddy's and can safely make it 120 miles or 193 kilometers on a tank of gas.

    Here's the basic route:

St. Zenon up to Manawan on 33 then North.

Pick up 83 and head towards ValDor

Grab 93 and Head East across the top over to Saint Jeanne

Then Secondary 355 to La Tuque and back down to St. Zenon.

Is there fuel and lodging across the top (93) to do this?

I have been looking at the interactive map within the FCMQ and there's not much showing, but figured I would check here to see if anybody has done this or can offer any suggestions.

Thanks so much and Happy Holidays!!
