  1. We recently landed in the door after spending another week in Saguenay . I second Bill's quote, "How sweet it is". This was the first season we rode the region but I am confident it wont be our last. The variety of club trails we encountered were very enjoyable. Kudos to the independent club managers and the FCMQ on how they manage the large trail system.

It was great making new friends from near & far. To each of you we hope our paths cross again.

Again many thanks to Bill & his lovely wife for the daily tips / suggestions on the days agenda. Bill's insight and local knowledge is an invaluable resource. I trust the management at the Delta Hotel, local tourism office and the FCMQ have a full understanding of the positive impact Bill and his wife provide to the region with each of them promoting the hotel and region with their daily interaction with the American snowmobilers.

Additionally thanks are warranted for the staff at the Delta hotel as they are very accommodating and will make your stay very personal.

Thanks again to all. Stay safe.

  2. Today we went up to L Etape, 200 mile round trip on very nice trails.

WOW.....22,000...Congratulations....Consider sending the post to the attention of Ski-Doo.....Two of the four sleds in our fleet are also two identical '13 - 600 Ace Renegades with 3,500 miles a piece. We have some catching up to do.

Here in Pittsburg NH, Monday the 15th ( -29F ) into Tuesday the 16th started out as snow but sadly Tuesday into Wednesday the 17th closed out with .86" of a hard driven rain ( johnsnhweather.com), with temps reaching +50F, resulting in a major washout. A + - 75 degree swing within 24 hours. Go figure ? As a result we are contemplating returning your way after we learn your current conditions.

    Congrats again, 22,000 "miles".

    Stay safe..

  3. I had to look twice to figure out the first picture. The last one is a nice shot, many many people have stopped there to take a picture.

    I couldn't figure out the 1st image...Still puzzled...Any help ?

Temps to rise in the mid 40's F here today...Currently raining lightly...Heavier rain forecasted later in the day ...Pittsburg NH

    Thanks Groomer....

  4. Good evening Saguenay Bill. It was a pleasure to meet your wife & yourself, and of course Pepper.

I wanted to thank you again for the courtesy & spectacular advice you provided during our recent stay. Your knowledge of the Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean trail system, near & far accompanied with your explicit directions allowed us to explore many miles of well groomed trails covered by more than an adequate amount of snow. We concur with you that the region is paradise. We are grateful you encouraged us to visit.

The local snowmobile club and the Delta Hotel are fortunate you have the personality you do. As no matter where we stopped, whether it was a relais or on the side of the trail, many, if not all people we conversed with, after learning we were staying at the Delta Hotel inquired if we had met you and or asked us to say hello to you on their behalf. No doubt you have left a positive impression on many traveling snowmobilers.

Rest assured we will return - maybe sooner rather than later :good: , and this is in part directly related to your interaction with us.

    Till next time, stay safe.

    Paddy O & company. :drinks:

  5. Today we rode from Grande valley to new Richmond via Murdochville and the Orange Trail to La Cache. once we got out of Grandvalley snow was good including New Richmond they received 2 to 3 inches last night of good heavy snow. If you are set on riding the Gaspee check with Matane and if they received two or 3 inches of snow you will be fine getting in and out of the towns. Last picture is in New Richmond.

    Thank you... :good:

  6. Thanks Snobeeler. Suppose to arrive in Matane on Saturday. Heading east around the Gaspe point back west to New Richmond returning to Matane on 595 Thursday . Continue as scheduled or no ? Your opinion is appreciated & respected.

  7. Just talked to some lads in Saint Anne Des Monts and they said there is a section west of Mont Saint Pierre that is supposed to be shared with trucks but it is plowed bare for a long way 2-3 km! They said in the hills the riding is ok but when you drop down into the towns for fuel.food, beer,or a bed it is very bad! Read bare ground! They are taking a bus to Riviere Du Loup to get their truck!

    Andy

    Say it isn't so. Ouch....Hoping for a snowfall between now and Saturday....Thank you...Paddy O

  8. Don't see it as a problem. Recently crossed border in Chevrolet Suburban occupied by 4 persons other than the owner of the vehicle. No issue / inquiry going out. In returning the US customs Officer inquired of the registered owners name and after providing same he asked of the relationship between us and the registered owner. After answering the questions correctly and politely we were on our way. Good luck. Ride safely.

  9. As noted above, just before the Riotel. Was taken yesterday (tuesday). Supposed to get snow tonight. Will know a lot more after tomarrows ride. Will try to post then.

Thank you...Looking forward to your continued reports. Hope you have a great day : ) .

  10. Wow. The second photo is disturbing to say it lightly. Where and when was it taken ? Thank you.

On Saturday Feb 6 we are "scheduled" to trailer to Matane to start the loop. Naturally we are watching the weather pattern. Any first hand knowledge is welcomed.

    Thank you...

  11. Well, Merry & I are back home in Jamestown, NY after a 14 hour drive from Rimouski. I wanted to let folks know what we found on our trip...................

    Scott

Scott, I very much appreciate you report ...Thank you...

  12. "Motel restaurant Fin Gourmet = The place in New Richmond behind the restaurant across from the gas station is not very expensive. It certainly isn't the Francis!"....Well said.

My wife, daughter & myself couldn't get a room at the Francis so we stayed at the Fin Gourmet as a "last resort". Aside from being convenient to gas, trails, ski-doo dealer you can literally park the sleds at your room door .

We ate and drank in the Francis. Great let down knowing we had to return to Fin Gourmet as the latter is no comparison to the Francis - Night & day.

Enjoy...Be flexible ...Make the best of it...

  13. I second the acknowledgment thanking you for your efforts. Below is a copy my brief note and the response from the office of Transport Minister, Mr. Robert Poëti.

    Dear Sirs;
I write to ask you to reconsider the recent prohibition wherein snowmobiles equipped with studs are prohibited from crossing roadways at trail / road junctions. Snow machines outfitted with studs have in part made the snow machine industry much safer. To encourage persons to operate snow machines without studs is at a minimum negligent as accidents and deaths, as they are associated with snowmobiles will increase . Please reconsider this recent law change. If enforced the recent law will have a ripple effect on the Quebec economy as it relates in part to tourism, snow machine registrations and lodging.
For further comment I may be reached at pmoreilly@optonline.net . or by U.S. mail at xx xxxxxxxxxx xx, xxxx xxxxxx.
Thank you for your time and concern on this matter.
    Respectfully and sincerely,
    Patrick M. O’Reilly

  14. Really though to cancel rooms and trips? Each of us spend thousands on snowmobile trips each year for our own enjoyment but your willing to give it all up at the drop of a hat for $100 fine. Don't get me wrong if no one puts up a fight it won't get changed but if you are not having enough fun to spend another $100 you are doing it wrong.

100 bucks for each offense ....Could be multiple in a day and who knows how many in a season ....It is outright wrong ...

IMO it is no coincidence they dropped this bomb at the time they did , after all the permits were purchased and a percentage of rooms booked.

  15. As everyone here knows the FCMQ needs to burn the midnight oil to make a wrong a right. :help:

I sent my brief note / objection to ministre@mtq.gouv.qc.ca I hope others do as well.... :aggressive:

  16. Thanks for the briefing. We are jealous.

"We met the new owner of la cache, a young man seemed very nice. He said he was going to try to make some improvements, it could use a couple LOL."

Are you referring to Le Relais de la Cache ? The only fuel stop between north and south on 595 between New Richmond & Matane (More or less)? If so, we are fortunate someone picked it up. Thanks....

  18. Merry Xmas all !

Groomer thank you for the wonderful photos.

70+-F here in N.Y.C. yesterday. Tough to imagine you were out grooming.

Pittsburg NH where we have a camp, some 400 + miles from you has NO snow as it was 56.F there yesterday - 12 / 24 / 2015. . From October till present we have had only a total of 11.5" of snow fall

( www.johnsnhweather.com ). Disappointing to say it lightly, as at this time of the year we generally have a fair base.

Again, thank you for all the images.

Ride safe - all. Keep it on the trail !

    Merry Xmas .....

    Paddy O
