  1. Mikes buying the drinks???

Absolutely, I wanted to buy and there was no way Mike was going to allow that to happen :drinks:

Sadly, the last day of the trip for me. It was a great time with even better company. Thank you mikerider for the hospitality!

    Great pics SnowCrazed!!!!

Big mileage week thanks to Snowcrazed. He pushed me all week but that was good, saw some new places and trails, and had a blast.

Didn't break the 400 mile/day but came close a couple times. The way we ate ay break the 200 pound mark.

Always worry when I brag up the Riviere du Loup trails and then a friend shows up to see them. They did not disappoint, Smooth as silk.

    Thanks Snowcrazed.

    Until next year!

    mike

Now I see what you were talking about!!!

  2. Around the hotel looks like a few inches of fluff overnight. Went for a two hour ride and several miles south found up to a foot of snow.

Waiting around for couple hours for others to pack the trail.

    mike

Hey Mike, Patt and I really enjoyed meeting you Thursday evening, and we thank you for the drink! :drinks:

Well we got home this evening and I will tell you that the ride from RDL to the Ontario border was a white knuckler with lot's of blowing snow and more wrecks than I can count. Then today was more snow and wrecks for the 200 miles between Cobourg, Ontario and Strathroy, Ontario

Looks like you have some nice low 20 temps tomorrow and a couple of inches of snow!

  4. Hey Groomer, we decided to stay in Matane today and just ride local without saddlebags so we went east to St. Adelme and it was drifted pretty deep in spots as seen in my pics, some guys with long tracks got stuck. I called Mont St. Pierre and they got 1.5 to 2 feet of snow and lot's of wind so I'm thinking going east is not a good option for me and the wife tomorrow.

How do you think the ride will be tomorrow from Matane to Amqui and then south or west?

    Thanks, Vince

  5. "I've heard the trail into Perce is closed due to landowner dispute. Not sure this is still the case. But we are heading to gaspe then inland on the local then down the regional to Chandler tonight, if not further."

    A. Rubenstein many thanks for your posts. I enjoyed reading them. Is their any merit to your quote noted above where you heard rumor the trail in Perce is closed?

My wife, daughter & myself leave from Matane Monday morning. Yes I know it is forecasted to be extremely cold. We have reservations each night and I hope to stay on target. Despite riding for past 15 years I am out of my comfort zone. Wish us well. Where you turned left/ south on 595 after leaving Murdochville we will turn right and head north back to Matane.

Thanks for any response / input !

Two friends just looped the Gaspe and no worries, this pic was taken last Friday the 6th. My wife and I will be starting our ride this Saturday out of RDL, I'll be on an Orange ZR 8000 and she will be on a black and green ZR 6000 LXR, maybe we will see each to each other out there :drinks:

  6. I have been riding in very cold temps, -25F to daytime highs of -5F for the past 4 weeks. I wear the following:

    1. Choko Frostguard Balaclava, a SD Dickie and a Choko Modular Helmet.

    2. Cotton T shirt, either a fleece top or cotton sweat shirt, tec vest and a Choko Adventurer Jacket.

    3. Cotton shorts, fleece pants and Choko Extreme Cordura Pants.

    4. Cotton socks and Bilodeau seal skin boots.

I must have been absent the day they were saying you must be in layers of man made materials in order to stay warm and that cotton was not good. I am old school.

I like the boots :good: How do find the durability of them to be with today's cheese grater running boards?

I still wear the cotton shorts as they are the most comfortable, but just this year I found a synthetic t-shirt at Cabela's that is made by Under Armour that is softer and more comfortable than any cotton T that I own.

  7. Synthetic base layers that are weight appropriate for the temps, then my fleece pants and Klim uninsulated pants over that, on top the base layer, a synthetic shirt, Tek Vest and an Arctic Cat Gore Tex shell that I will put the insulated sleeves into for the subzero days.

Those leather suits were not as warm as the modern day layering, we were just younger

  8. I'm at RDL/Universal also. Place is a mad house, not seeing many US sledders so I don't think it has to do with the free weekend. Last night (Friday) was very quiet and not many people. Just tried for supper and no room in bar or both restaurants, will try again later. Glad you had a good trip.

Rm 126 or text me if you want to join me for dinner later 207-522-2673

    mike

Hello Mike, the wife and I will be at the Universal sometime Friday afternoon if all goes according to plan.

  9. Hi Vince. We might finally get to meet up. I spend most of my winter vacations in RDL and in fact there right now. Riding has been excellent until last night's rain.

I have two vacations planned for February and most likely will again be at RDL so hope to see you.

I have almost no French language abilities and not a problem at all.

Hope you get a chance to do the Gaspe, beautiful country.

    mike

Hello Mike, I should be in RDL on the 13th or 14th and it would be great to meet you :drinks:

Was it just a rain or a rinse?

I have been traveling the Gaspesie for 15 years now and only have trouble in one area, Groomer makes fun of my translations!!

You will have absolutely no issues in the Gaspesie and after the loop will wonder why you took so long to go the first time.

    That's what I'm talking about!

Vince, it is the trip of a lifetime. We did it last year starting/ending in Pointe a la Croix. Mostly perimeter. I posted a trip report if it would help.

    http://www.quebecrider.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=3385&hl=

I too, speak no French and didn't have a problem. Enjoy!

    Nice write up and pics!

We get lake effect snow here near the Great Lakes, I guess it;s ocean effect snow in the Gaspe and on a larger scale than the lakes.

    hahhahaha!!!

    2 oeufs...jambon..patates....bacon....toasts....with un jus d orange !!!!.....meeerci !!!!

    hi vince...

don t make french language a barrier..if people have hard times to understand you ...just speak slowly !!!

    jean-guy

Merci beaucoup for the advice monsieur LOL

Thanks for the advice guys, this will be my wife's first time in QC. We are really looking forward to it and I think she is going to be really surprised by the scenery,

  10. Hello all, next month my wife and I are planning to loop the Gaspe (her first time in QC) with our starting point being RDL, my plan is to ride the perimeter and it looks like it's about 1200 miles? Any thought or suggestions for the trip would be appreciated.

I have rode quite a bit in QC since 1998 all on the north side of the St. Lawrence, and my limited French wasn't an issue, would it be fair to assume that my limited French will work in the Gaspe?

    Thanks, Vince

  11. Loud Pipes close trails !!

It's not loud, I'm all about being swift, silent, and good looking

Hi Vince, and welcome to Quebecrider. When are you coming to Quebec? Doubt I'll get that far north this year, but just in case I'm in the same area I'll look for you. Have a great trip, lots of SkiDoo's to rent in the province (LOL). mike

I'll start riding next Friday or Saturday, we'll probably do the 83-93 loop, really wanted to do the Gaspe this year, maybe next year :drinks:

  12. It's been a few years since I have rode in the province and I always had a stock exhaust when in QC, currently I have a 2012 Turbo with a Sandale muffler, it's not loud but it's not stock, should I put the stock exhaust back on for this saddlebag trip?

We will be riding Abitibi Temiscamingue, Chibougamau, Roberval, etc., and I don't know how strict the cops are.

    Thanks, Vince

  13. This is easy for me to pick. Ever since the first time I rode this trail it became my favorite. It is a short stretch, only 65 miles. The trail has been groomed to perfection every time I travel it. I like it because it is a very fun trail with lots of sharp hills and corners. My favorite trail is the piece running between Baie Comeau and Godbout.

    :yahoo::yahoo:

    :good:

I have a lot of favorites, but I'll never forget the ride between Baie Comeau and Godbout I did that in 02 :clapping::good:
