  1. Bills right theres hot women in the Sagueney but fortunately thats a common occurance all over the Province. My first trip to Canada was Chaudierre/BSL saddlebag, we rode out to Rimouski from St Georges. Great riding well marked and close to those of us in ME, southeastern NH and Eastern MA. I''ve also taken the 9-10 hour ride 4 times to the Sagueney to ride. Driving to Sagueney is good early or late season but in the middle I'd stop closer to Quebec City or Shawinigan and ride up there for the best of both worlds. HI is a good place to stay and it's nice that Bills there to help the American riders out.

  2. The SDIs are great but the 09 DI is even better, with a 3 year spark plug warrenty! Automatic Summerizing feature and 250miles per tank range!

    Gutz

I'd say 250 is pushing it but an honest 180-190 is probably there and needing to bring way less oil on a saddlebag. Renegade 600 ETEC will be my spring order unless I can steal a used Renegade 600SDI come March.

  3. Was thinking of using the above mentioned area for a "starting point" this saturday.

I havnt been there by vehicle before and was wondering if anyone has a good recommendation on where to stay and leave the truck/trailer for a week.

Any trail reports from this area would be great as well.

    THINK SNOW EVERYBODY!!!!!

coming from NY down autoroute 20 I'd just go to RDL, Universal or hotel levesque in RDL are places friends have parked at.

  4. Holy crap the fuel economy has gone from 25 mpg to 30 mpg in less than 24 hours!!! I was reading about it yesterday. I hope that this is something that will work and that 2 strokes do have a future. From what I was reading yesterday the guys with the 2 stroke e-tec (Direct Injection) outboards love them. I would be interested to see how the oiling system will work and see how the whole package is going to be. The SDIs already are sippy on fuel- I wonder if you weigh the extra cost of purchase compared to an SDI if you'll really come out ahead- I'll be kind of like paying an extra 5000$ for a Hybrid car- (5000$ will buy you a lot of gas...)

price of the TNT is pretty much inline with the X and equipment wise the TNT is an X with softer suspension so I don;t think price will be too bad. I see this as being my sled for next year assuming no real issues over the rest of the winter. Boats are harder ona motor than snowmobiling given their constant operating RPM's so hoping this will be reliable for 10,000+ miles.

  5. When I entered Canada yesterday, the Canadian custom agent read me off some paper US customs gave to him saying to get back into the US, starting Jan. 31st, you would need your drivers license AND birth certifcate.

    mike

that is the correct info that i've seen on the customs website and recent news articles.

  6. I have a verizon tri-mode phone. It seems to work the best since I get the analog signals in the smaller areas. Not all new phones do analog.

i've kept my old V710 for that reason as well, need the analog band in northern NH and Quebec.

John if Telus is the Canadian provider with the best coverage Verizon or Us Cellular would be your choice(CDMA phones) depending on who gives a better deal on canadian roaming, AT&T if Rogers has better coverage. I've used mine with no issues as far out as Rimouoski all throughout CHaudierre and in Sagueney with no issues. I'd go on Ebay and get a V710 for use when you ride and something like a KrZR for use the rest of the time, once you do it once you can switch phones online. Heres their coverage map, obviosuly gaps in the rural areas but looks like many of the typical stops are in coverage.

    telus coverage

  7. I used to think the same thing with the gps, +$100 for US maps, +$100 for Canadian, why spend $130 more for snowmobile trails. But since my gps was old, I went with gtse800 and got a Lowrance and should hopefully only need the Quebec trails and just the base map. I think the trail maps also have gas/lodging waypoints, i haven't received it yet.

FYI, gps coordinates of all Quebec trails can be downloaded from the FCMQ site. They are in Google Earth format, which can be converted to anything with gpsbabel. Not sure if you can make gps maps or not, you can't with magellan, and its too much data to import as a trail/track.

i sent S pump your intersection waypoints yesterday. Looking back on it I probbaly would have bought gps quebec instead of Topo canada. I did like the weather alert on the lowrance.

  8. I'm thinking we could make our own pretty quickly by sharing tracks. Only issue I see is the editing to take out wrong turns and utrns and such but I am stll learning. The Quebec map is pretty good but i'm with you about the cost of all the add-on maps. I think I can get away with tracks on the basemap and just plug in the gas stops and food. Lobby Rob for an exchange forum :pardon: and we can share some nice stuff. I can't wait to get to a couple places I've ridden by in fear of being lost and go explore. Bobler had the same unit with the Qc Map and I'll bet he's reading the manual feverishly after this past weekend :drinks:

I've been trying to figure out how to integrate the waypoints I sent to you with the tracks to make a complete map as we add areas.

I will PM CKF and see if we can get a GPS forum here ot exchange traccks and see if he can set he uploadable file types to include Garmin and Mpsource file extension.

I actually have all of northern NH that someone on HCS compiled from different trips so it can be done.

  9. A Rube, what do you have .............I'll take anything for Quebec. I don't have much yet but surely will.

GTSE 800 has this Quebec trail map for his Lowrance unit. he likes it. I just struggle with paying $130 for it on top of the $100 for Canadian Topo and $100 US topo I already spent or probably would have done it as well.

  10. Rode this past weekend with a veteran group (10) riders and did around 400 miles around Sherbrooke, Thetford Mines and St Georges. Got a chance to try out some new iron, Yammy and Doo and both real nice rides. Also got a chance to try my new Garmin 60. All I can say is when we came back to Sherbrooke in a blinding blizzard that thing had me right on track telling me when turns were coming and where gas was and more info than I thought was possible. I don't think I would ride without one now. It should be a must have for any sledder and they are getting affordable with alot of features. Another cool thing i found is you can upload other peoples tracks and share yours. Riding was spectacular, wrecked one sled and rider, lost a couple guys for a few hours but all in all was a great break in ride. The old trusty Apex is still smooth as silk and a blast to ride. Anyone have any GPS tracks they want to share?

s pump send me an e-mail address and I will send garmin tracks from l'etape to HI on 23/368 and also a big chunk fo the valins area out towards pelchat. Seem to have lost the section between shipshaw and the intersection of 93 outside the ski area.

  11. Switch,

What would the best way to get from Armstrong to Lac Etchemin/St. Maglore?? 75 still a problem??

    Thanks,

    NH Vector

545 from St Theophile dumps out onto 55 just short of Lac Etchemin. If you want to go to St Georges and then over the orange(local) trail connects St Georges to St prosper and you can get on 545 there.

  12. Gary hope you and Marty have a good time and hopefully he keeps it on the trail. Tell him to pack his gauntlets because he'll lose his handwarmers before L'etape based on Er's and everyone elses experience.

ER- Jackman looks like it will be a good time even if the miles are low. You'll do better than I will even with that crew, taking my son on some local rides up at camp this weekend and helping out at our clubs safety class.
