  1. I also bought a Bombardier Modular helmet used it about 5 years, but I got tired of the pads, the terrible air leaks that helmet has and the rubber face mask that would occationally leak and fog up my face shield. Last year I went back to a full face polaris cyclone helmet and yes I have a heated shield with a cord. But it is comfortable and warm.

Almost forgot, some great tips! There are some things I would of never thought about. Going to stick some Immodium in the bag this weekend.

Never had the air leaks but mine is not a bombardier. I know the original ones were very heavy but mine is not, also mine never freezes at the outlet. And I have ridden in -35 F and have never had the shield freeze or fog even if I sneeze inside it. I guess I got lucky and got a good one, I never even really did any research, just went to the Yamaha dealer and got one. My wife used to have problems from the cold air swelling her eyes up but she went to the same helmet and she loves it too. :drinks:

  2. good idea about the jumper cables where did you get your mini cables at

and yes i love my bvs 2 but i still use it with a cord on frosty mornings

i forgot the mini shovel for the list

I know Yamaha dealer's carry a nice set but I have got some similar ones vendors at car shows/flea market. I would think Napa could get them. :good:

  3. The railroad bed is groomed between Mki and Kaz since december 12 but that's about it for now.I heard they will be packing between Lytton and Le Domaine.Val d'Or is now in charge of TQ 63 further west.

Let's keep our fingers crossed for the upcoming storm later in the week.We need snow!!!! coz if we get rain the season will be delayed

:yahoo: That is good for sure, Val d'Or club always does a better job of grooming :good:

  4. X2 on the plastic ziploc bags. I always do that and then put everything in a kitchen size garbage bag, you never know what kind of conditions you will run into. Also make sure you have supplies to repair gear if ness. Sewing kit, duct tape, plastic cable ties, rubber bungees, and anything in duplicate that you use to strap your bags on with. :drinks:

  5. I have a Yammy too :good: ...so let's not forget about those jumper cables, no pull cord on those 4 strokes. I carry a set of mini ones, needed to use them a couple times up in Abitabi. I elliminated notorios electric visor cables when i puchased a bomby helmet, best investment yet.

yes, X2 on the mini jumpers I also use a modular helmet for about 7 years. I don't understand why anyone would mess with the heated shield when it's not needed. :D :D

  6. Some pretty good stuff, but man do guys pull a trailer or what?jpkemtp you had me rolling with that one about the Immodium  and smclelan I never thought about the extendable magnet but I do ride a Yamaha so I guess I just don't get to work on my sled on the trail as much  Just kidding don't want to start anything with that comment. On a more serious note I would add a siphon hose. Don't need them much anymore but you never know. Also if you need to make a fire in a pinch that grey birch bark stuff that seems to just fall off the trees lights up like it's been soaked in gas. :drinks:

  7. Viper2 how far south have you gotten from palmerton?

We have mate is past bake oven knob and up past neffs.

    schooter

Don't ride much at home here anymore, but we never really rode south when we did. We used to make it up to Camelback from here years ago but I guess with all the developments that would be impossible now. If I ride in PA now I go to Potter Co. my dad has a place there, but most of my riding is in Quebec just plan it and go. :good:

  8. Definately going up, not sure when though.

I'm in your boat, my kids are 12 and 14. Son is 12 and has a 340 Indy lite since he was 9 and i just picked up a 2006 ski doo 550 X for my daughter. My son will probably steal it from her, he's more interested. I also had plans on taking him up but you are right, they must be 16 up there. I guess the part i'm not sure of is how they would actually verify the age? I'm not suggesting anything but i guess if a kid is 15 and you take him/her up there and they have their certificate would anyone really care?. I know for a fact i've seen kids younger than 16 riding up there....way younger than that. In PA though, they lowered the age from 12 to 10 a couple years back i believe.

The sooner you can take them along the sooner they can dig you out when you blow a corner. At least that's my plan!

I know what you mean about the age, I have seen alot of kids that were much younger than 16 driving up there and I guess if you keep a low profile and mind your P's and Q's it would be alright. In my opinion the trails are lfor the most part less dangerous up there than where we ride at home. :pardon:

  9. Viper2, just to clarify....you can legally ride on the trail system in PA once you are 10 yrs old and have the safety certificate.

Thanks Bill, I didn't remember that part I think when I was a kid you had to be 12 but I know my kids were like 10 and 11 when they did it. I was just hoping to get them to Canada this year but they are only 13 and 15. It's kinda like hunting, if you don't get them addicted young enough they never really seem to start. Hopefully there will be good snow in Potter this year and I can get them there a couple times. By the way were heading up to St. Zenon Jan 17th let me know if you guys are gonna be going up at all this year. :yahoo::drinks:

  10. Minimum age required to drive a snowmobile on the trail network is 16 years old.If you are from Quebec you have to pass the safety course. If you are from out of province this does not apply HOWEVER the 16 year tage limit still applies. If you are on private property (say your own farm land) this minumum age limit does not apply.

Thanks I thought that was the case but it was not real clear. I'm sure something was lost in the translation. :good:

  11. We are sitting around talking about paradise, as the night comes to an end where do you like to go to have a cold one?

My favorite place is really any rustic type lodge, nice fire in the fireplace, some animal heads on the wall, a talkative Quebecois who is looking to practice his english on me. I always try to get some local history/customs of the area. I like Kanawata really nice place middle of nowhere a great host (Mario) and a couple of dogs for company. I have stayed there a few times overnight, passed through on trips and even spent a week there fishing for Walleye a few years back. Alot of interesting things can be learned when in Quebec. I found out last year that the name Relais 22 Milles is exactly that. 22 mile relay, when i asked why miles he told me the place was there before they had the metric system forced on them and the name stuck.---------------------------As far as "cold one" that is pretty much an operative term in Quebec as we always say they go to great lengths in the winter to keep their beer warm!:drinks:

  12. Looking to return to Quebec this winter after being away for 10 years. I was planning a trip for the end of January. Would like to know where I should park around Shawinigan or Trios River. Plan to ride up to Roberval thru La Tuque to roberval and up and back to Chibouganmau. What have you guys got for places to stay, gas and trails . Thanks Jim

Roberval to Chibougamau is a pretty easy day you should have no problem. Last year we rode from Relais 22 milles through Roberval and onto Chib. in one day, and it was only 290 miles. If I had to guess I would say about 200 miles from Roberval to Chib. When you make this trip make sure you stop for gas at Ladore (right on trail) and also Scicerie 54 (a huge sawmill) :drinks:

  13. How long has it been closed?

I know it at least two maybe three seasons since i rode that twisty twisty trail.

I like all trails and hate to see any closed for sure.

was it being logged up there or just eliminated??

I am trying to make contact here with the local club to volunteer.

will try to find out its fate for this season

I will see if i can ask Richard from mekinac about 347 and post it.

That trail has been closed for a few years now. Last year I asked Denis from Le Cabanon what he knew about that trail and he said it will not be opened again. It was very hard to maintain and too hard for the club at Mattawin to keep up with that and all their other trails. Some of you may remember a few years back it made a nice loop to LaTuque, and there also was an outfitter called Vignrod. He was only open a couple seasons I guess it did not pay. We used to like it you could access Kanawata via the riviere aux Rats road. I agree I hate to see any trail close but if it makes for better quality I guess it's a trade off. :pardon:

  14. Minimum age required to drive a snowmobile: 16 years

    (Act respecting off-highway vehicles – June 13, 2006)

Required for drivers under 18 years: a certificate attesting that he or she has the knowledge required to operate a snowmobile.

Snowmobilers under 18 years residing outside of Québec: Such operators are not required to hold the aforementioned certificate, if they are allowed to operate an off-highway vehicle under legislation in force in their home jurisdiction.

In Québec, the training courses leading to the obtention of a certificate of competency are offered by ConduiPRO, groupement coopératif des écoles de conduite indépendantes du Québec.

For more information, visit the website www.conduipro.com

I copied the above off the fmcq website but i am not sure what this means to me. I am from Pennsylvania and if kids take the required safty course they can legally ride when they are 12. Does this mean my 13 and 15 year olds are legal in Quebec or not? :pardon:

  15. Antique /3 Day / 7 day permits cannot be sold on trail.

That's what I got off the zenwaiter.com site. Which is why I'm trying to figure this out ahead of time.

From the fcmq website: Extra charges are payable when the annual trail permit is purchased on trails. Note that permits issued for antique sleds, as well as daily or weekly permits, cannot be purchased on trails.

I'm sledding in from Ft Kent thru New Brunswick. Will need passes ahead of time. Maybe Bill has an answer...

    Thanks for trying.

Just keep in mind offshore sometimes it's nice to get the pass where your riding most of the money from trail passes goes back to the club you purchased it from.I like to buy where i'm riding.

  16. I am please to inform you that some trails are officially opened in the north of Lanaudière :yahoo:

The snow base is not big but enought to start, it will be season beginning conditions... Just look here to have details on which segment are opened...

    http://www.snowmobilecountry.ca/en/index.jsp?numPage=235

I will try to do some exploration over the week-end and come back with few pics ...

    Bye

    Alain

Thanks for the update Alain you always provide excellent information. I took notice if i scroll down the list of regions on the FCMQ site they are showing every region closed except limited in Mt. Valin (250 kms) but if you go on the home page for Lanaudiere there are alot of trails open. With many years experience in that region i know there is much more open than could be ridden in one day. I think anyone with a few days off could find some good running with light traffic!

  17. It's me that post the above information on HCS. The snowmobile had been banned in all provincial parks in Quebec few years ago not only Mt-Tremblant park. It is the application of this decision that have been delayed to let the time to the differents area to make alternate trails. Only the provincial parks are touch by this decision this is why we loose acces to Haute-Gorge park few years ago, Mt-Valins Park this year and Mt-Tremblant pretty soon. It's very bad news but many attemps have been done to reverse these decisions without succes... in the circumstance, it's a big chance we have to still ride the Mt-tremblant park this season... Don't miss it !!!

Note that wildlife reserves are not touched by this decision so we still have trails in the Mastigouche and Mattawin wild life reserve in Lanaudiere, no problems on this side.

    Alain

Just goes to show although we may not want to beleive it Canada's government is as screwed up as ours.We have to find a way to stop putting rich, indignant bastards into power. These people are so out of touch with reality they don't even realize how foolish some of their ideas are. These same parks in the summer time are full of people with cars, boats on the water etc. All the camping areas are around lakes where do you think the sewage goes. It's all a big joke like Algores global warming and the Clinton's health care?socialized medicine I had always hoped the people from the great white north would show more common sense but i guess their leaders are as bad as ours.

  18. Anybody know more info about this? found this on HCS

We won't have any problem to ride the Mt-Tremblant park this sled season but there are big chances that it will be the last one we get acces to it. We are very lucky to be able to ride it again this year, negotiation with governement lead to an extension to give the time to local snowmobile clubs to reorganize and figure out alternate trails. When the process will be completed, we won't have acces to the park anymore but we should have new trails outside the park for the equivalent kilometers of the park trails...

The trails in the Mt-Tremblant park are in the best trails of Lanaudiere, so don't miss your chance and put it in the "to ride list" this season you won't regret it... it is a "must-ride trail" that won't be available for so long...

sure hope thats not true  are surely some great trails keep us informed

  19. I had a 1997 Polaris Indy Light given to me last week and got it running the other day and buttoned it up tonight and rode a 1.7 mile loop from the garage around the field twice and then down to my house and back to the garage. By then my hands were froze, but for a little 340 fan that little sucker hauls the mail.

startin' to feel it now :yahoo::drinks::clapping:

  20. As I said before on an earlier post...another lodging point will be available this winter in the LaVérendrye Park.

The place is called http://outfitterlaverendrye.com/. I talked with one of the hosts (Carole) via e-mails and she did confirm me they will be open for snowmobilers this winter. They are located 30 kms east of Joncas off TQ 63 very closed to TQ 63/regional 386 junction. The package is $90.00 Cdn + taxes which include stay, dinner and breakfast. All their rooms are located in the main lodge. Do I have to say it's cheaper than Joncas where they are charging $130.00/person.

I, for one, will support them this winter.

sounds good to me, the best part is supposedly they are going to groom the trail. :drinks:
