  1. First saddle bag trip I ever took in 95 was out of the Safari, Bernard talked me into a 275 mile trip first day, he was going to call me for trail reports on my first night, never made it to the place, 100 miles short. Sitting having a drink that night and the owner hands me the phone and says phone call for you, what! Its Bernard and he asking me only the way Bernard could ask the question, WHAT THE F*x^@! ARE DOING THERE! I told him why didn't you give me chainsaw being the first ones up that trail that season. When I got back from that trip we could not get our sleds in the trailer before we gave trail conditions, his wife did the online reports. Bernard would drop us off at the bars and come get us, first heated garage ever used, I liked that guy.

  2. Here's how I do it. Was in Quebec this past Jan into Feb for 2 weeks and never got above 9 degrees. Most mornings were -20 to -34 was the coldest. This is on my 2011 Apex. First make sure battery is strong. This is a must. Cycle fuel pump 3 times. Crack throttle just a pinch. Start engine and keep the key on until the stumble goes away. The engine may sound rough but keep the starter going until the engine really catches. The clutch may want to engage if you give it too much gas, so back off a little if needed. If the engine does not fire first time do the same thing again, but the most important keys are to give a pinch of throttle and don't let of the key until the engine smooths out.

Thats the same way you start fuel injected or carburetor cars in the cold if the car was flooded, slight throttle or full throttle when trying to start, that slows fuel supply and clears out your cylinders. The person with the most battery wins.

  3. I posted on Dootalk and got mixed answers (large variety of ages and riding areas) so I decided to ask here since we all more or less ride the same trails!....(just some ride them faster than others!!!) ....

I want to replace sled and on the fence to get 129 or 137 track?

What is the Pro's and Cons of the 137?

One guy posted he measured the track at show and the 137 is only 4" more track on the ground?.

Hi Mario, I think if you were considering 121 and thinking going up to a137 track might be more of a debate, you are going to feel more push at times in corners with a 129 or 137, as far as the 4 inches I have read the same thing, sounds about right 8 inches longer track. I like the ride on the longer track and the luggage (gas can) I can bring and the links stuff that ski-doo has to offer. Started riding the longer track 2007, would not go back to a shorter track because it fits my needs for my saddle bag trips in Canada and Vermont, I ride with 8 friends that have all gone to the long track. Good luck on your choice of your 2016, not a bad problem to have. Pat

  4. My wife rides with me on often but she keeps saying she is getting too old for this..... but when it's in Quebec she has no excuses she loves it there.

We are going to try the Abitibi area next week for the first time. It too will be a "go with the flow" as snowfarmer calls it....except for the last day, it may be 265 miles (no place to sleep) back to truck, but I wont tell her that !

    Smart man.

  5. I joined that club last year thanks to a Quebec rider who sold me his old one and helped down load the maps, it saved me on making a ferry crossing I would have never made and showed me short cuts on days that we were late starting out in the AM due to repairs. Say what you want but would not ride without one in a snowstorm on a route you do not know. Thank you to the person who sold it to me and garmin.
