  1. Spent a few nights there over the years. One night at -40, pulling buds sled that place looked like the Taj Mahal when we got there around 11pm!! Over all not that bad, rooms are warm and the food aint bad either. Hope it stay open.

I wheeled in there one night at 8 pm with my 8 year old son. Temp was around -20f, he was cold. The waitress put a chair in front of the wood stove and motioned for my kid to sit in the chair. Silent communication.

  4. Hi all...new to this forum...from SW PA where we are having our best winter in 10 years...tons of lake effect snow and good riding.

I am going to be staying at Motel Safari for a week at the end of the month. We would like to take a ride to the Ice Hotel near Quebec City. I know how to get to trail 23 towards Quebec City, but, not really sure from there. If anyone could help with specific directions, I would appreciate it. Also, does anyone know if you can have lunch there or do you have to be staying there? If not, any recommendations for a good restaurant near by would be great.

I have a GPS trail map on a Garmin, but have not used it yet. So if anyone knows the town the hotel is near I think we could find it witht he GPS. It looks like this is doable for a day trip.

    Thanks you so much!

Assuming that you are coming from the west on trail 3, you pass thru Pont-Rouge staying on 3 thru the intersection of 3 and 73. Roughly 3-5 miles past this intersection is a trail intersection in the middle of a large field with 3 east going to the right. go straight at this intersection. There is a sign for the Ice hotel. Go 3-4 miles and you are there. Good place to eat there called the Duchesnay which is 200 yards up the hill fromthe Ice Hotel. Admission this year is $16.00 but there is a buy 1 get 1 coupon on the back of the Jaques Cartier trail map

  5. Traillered up to the roquemont on the 26th. Went for a quick spin up 73. Groomed, smooth but thin. That night it snowed close to a foot then went to rain by 8am, Ugh. Donned hideaous rain gear and thought against 23 and l,tape . Stayed local , went to Relay Marmite on 73 . Awesome food there btw. Met a rider from Latuque who reported no grooming from Latuque in any direction. So we doubled back to St Ray and the rain ended. On the 28th we pounded our way north on 23 to L tape. If this trail had been groomed earlier I couldnt tell. There was 2 feet of new snow from the 27th, and about 4 feet total on ground. Needless to say we hoped after Ltape we would see grooming. No such luck. In fact a gent from Lac St Jean told me 23 north was un-groomed and Mt Apica was not open. So...., we headed down 369. This was the same as 23. Basically half assed powder riding. Got down to trail 3, still zero grooming. Took the 320 to St Anne de beaupre and followed a groomed trail for 1 mile to the groomer barn. So we had 1 smooth mile all day. Called JoAnn at Motel Charlie and she picked us up at the groomer barn . This is a great place to stay. 2 bedroom Condo w/ asleeper and a full kitchen is $129 total ! My buddy had ripped his saddle bag and JoAnn's Mom fixed it for free. JoAnns english is super and anything you need , Beer, food, Bank she'll taxie you around for free. Her place has resteraunts Tim Hortons etc within walking distance as well.

On the 29th we took off from St Anne, gassed up on the 120 by the ski hill, and headed west on 3. Everything had been groomed over nite and 3 thru quebec city was very smooth. All trails were 8-10, and as the temps were now down around 10F, very fast.

So typical of early season, each day was better and now trails are approaching mid-winter perfection.

On the ride home yesterday all trails we saw in mid Quebec and the townships were groomed dead flat. Even Drummondville looked very rideable.

Heres to a great safe season for all!! :drinks:

Hi Tom, Gary Pruitt here aka mached. It is great to put a face to a name. We spoke at the Roquemont. Glad you had a good trip. When will you be back?

  6. Conditions near the ski slope (93 & bras louis) were marginal on Sunday due to low snow conditions on certain sections of 328 and 93 and lack of recent grooming on the rest of it. Monday headed west to Lamarche where the trails were much better. Stayed at the Scoobyraid with host's Marie and William and indulged in a new menu item we named the "mountain of meat". From there headed north in the direction of Onichaway then south to 328 back to Falardeau to the Auberge Carcajou for a fantastic dinner. It snowed for 24 hours, leaving 10" of fresh snow. I am guessing that within a week, riding out of Chicoutimi / Jonquire will be possible. My .02

  7. Last season I suggested to the owner Eric, that carrying manufacturer oil might generate more sales both at the pump and inside the store. I just recieved an email from him stating that he has stocked all four brands for the up comming season.

Let's support this guy. It is a great spot to top off before heading into the bush.
