  1. 2007 Yamaha Venture Lite 4-stroke 85HP

    • Neither a sports car nor a pickup-truck. More of a comfortable, roomy 2-up SUV w/storage
    • 85HP, very torquey 4-stroke engine
    • 144" studded long track, superb ride. (rider forward design)
    • 3200 miles
    • Curve Industries parabolic skis
    • After a very long day on the trails, your back will feel fine and you will always have extra fuel in your gas tank
    • Huge storage area in the rear. You can carry the extra gas needed by your 2-stroke friends... seriously, that's what we did!
    • $3500 very well maintained!

Great MPG and tons of storage, comfortable motorcycle-type seating. Lots of torque, very happy at cruising trails at 50-65 MPH all day long. Tops out at 80 MPH... but why? This is a high-comfort trail cruising sled.

FYI on 4-stroke engine comparisons: I recently test drove the MXZ ACE-600 and this Yamaha engine has a LOT more power and torque even though it has a slightly smaller displacement. My guess is that the ACE600 60HP is factory tuned for absolute best mileage at some sacrifice of power and this 85HP engine is tuned for more of a balance. Either way, the gas mileage is excellent.

  2. Rick

I've been doing saddlebag trips in la belle province for over 30 years. Never have seen a better presentation that captures the essence of adventures in a winter wonderland. Hats off to a great job.

Each year many of us Quebec Riders are innundated with questions about our love for "doing stupid things in the bitter cold" when we could be basking in the Carribean Sun. Your presentation sums it up better than anything I have seen. I'm sending the link to snodeo2go to about 20 friends/family.

    thanks

I'm sitting here in Gilford, NH listening to the Lake Winnipesaukee waves lick the beach at night... In the off season better known as August. Peak season is now four months away.

  4. Hi, I meet you on Little Squam last winter by the Ashland town beach. You were with your son or a famly member....I belive. I remember your Cronical hat. I run one of the small groomers around here. I see youve joined our club. Michael in Ashland NH

    Yes, I remember.

I join multiple clubs based upon merit, not nearby geography. Squam is a great club in a great area. I also went to the Kill Krew demo... someplace... that I won't admit to... I know NOTHING...

  5. Hi Rick,

Sandi and I just viewed the presentation.

    AWESOME! :clapping:

Very nicely done. Most of the time we don’t take the time to snap the photos to share. It is wonderful that you and Stan did stop to take the photos to post so others can see what draws us to Quebec every year.

    Happy trails to you. :drinks:

    Jack & Sandi

We fixed that! With your permission, your pix of Mont Valin have been added to our trip's photo narrative on Day-3. Really wish that we could have seen it live...

  6. Holy crap! Great job! That's something to show my family and friends as its hard to describe a Quebec saddlebag trip. You did a great job!

Many thanks. That's exactly why I did it.

The pen is mightier than the throttle. The public perception of the sport is that of drunken jerks who go through the ice or smash into a tree while going way too fast. Sad to say: Darwinism works for a reason !

    I came home... this time.

  7. Nice pics + story Rick! You'll probably find these trips highly addictive - as most of us do!!

If you don't mind my asking, what program(s) did you use to create the presentation?

P.S. Thank you for voting for Scott Brown. Here's to hoping he makes the difference we all need now.

I actually know Scott's wife Gail Huff from when I worked at ch-5. I met Scott at a party three years ago. Seemed like a nice enough chap...

  8. Quebec saddlebag trip from the perspective of a first-timer

Thanks to the the riders that we met here, we had a great time. The photo and narrative content is much too long to post here so I have created a link. Includes pix of Saguenay Bill and a host of other characters.

Just be aware that it may take as long as 20-minutes to see the whole thing.

This is not a commercial web site... it is just my personal space.

  9. ZEUSAND and I are staying at the Auberge du Ravage which is about 80 trail miles south of Jonquière on trail-83. Access trail is east and 10-miles away from 83. So extremely remote, they must make their own electricity. Communications are via satellite phone. The nearest hamlet with a post office is 30-miles away... mail is picked up weekly. Twelve feet of snow this season, 6 to 8 feet remain.

The pictures will speak for themselves. Absolutely five star accomodations. Snowmobiler special: $160 ppdo with a gourmet five course dinner and breakfast. Summer/fall rates are no surprise at $575.

Who says that snowmobilers have missing front teeth, grease under their fingernails after another breakdown and smell like two-stroke? <g> This is a deluxe hotel that anyone can afford in the winter.

    post-625-1264161799.jpg

Due to the remote location, winter access is exclusively by snowmobile.

    post-625-1264161830.jpg

At the special entrance room, the owner's family meets you with a warm smile.

They ask you to remove all of your snowmobile gear especially boots.

You are given special slippers to wear, available for later purchase at $10.

Fit and finish are extrordinarily first class. Most den furniture is overstuffed leather.

Bell ExpressVu carries Canadian and US TV stations via satellite.

NH's Ch9 was not available so we we watched the Boston news...

Part-4 of the five course gourmet meal. Appetizer was extremely tender deer.

Taken in a Canadian national park approaching dusk.

  10. Rick,That is a similar time frame (Jan 19-24) for a trip I planned. There will be 2 possibly 3 guys

We are leaving our place in Pittsburg NH (12 miles to border) to do Chaudiere going to MontmagnyCabano/Degelis/RDL etc (specifics not etched in stone as yet).

Don't know if you and Stan (?) are interested in meeting us there, you certainly could stay there the night before, as we planned leave in morning (leave your truck/trailer there)

    Rick

I am between jobs but start a new job on Feb-1 so I am very open time-wise and also about where to go. I am interested. Stan may have already called you if you are the guy he was talking about.

  11. Looks like the January Quebec trip has two committed so far... As the idea progresses, we are going to Quebec and snow conditions permitting, New Brunswick on January 20-24.

    revised Thursday 1-14-2010

We now have our full compliment of riders... thank you all.

  12. Looks like the Quebec trip has two committed so far...

As the idea progresses, we are going to Quebec and snow conditions permitting, New Brunswick on January 20-24. The exact route will be decided before Jan-20th based upon local conditions. So far, we have two circular routes as options. Plan-A is a loop north towards Lac Staint-Jean. Plan-B goes northeast via Montmagny towards Edmundstun, NB. To start, we will meet via trailers in an area near to the NH, VT, CA boarders.

Two people gave comitted so far so this is for real. If you have a high-reliability machine, are a reasonably-experienced rider and have a good attitude about having respectful fun, feel free to contact me for more details.
