  1. 10 - 4 Capril19,

Many areas had way more traffic than typical.

*late start to the "riding season"

*poor snow in PA, Mass, NY, VT, Maine and much of Ontario, for most of the season.

*even when there was decent snow, lack of low temps early, meant lots of waterways, sloughs, and lakes were not frozen, which caused a lot of "connect-ability" issues.

  2. Go get it Timbo! Don't you just love the western PQ! My favorite area of the entire province to tour hands down.

I'm heading up that way 3 weeks from tomorrow for a 10 day ride. It's all coming together nicely now. Cold is in place & snow is accumulating.

    Enjoy! Enjoy! Enjoy!

We'll be stumbling around in the puckerbrush at that time. Mayhaps we will cross paths.

Sorry our paths did not cross this trip. We left the Bannick after our 3 day stay exploring the lower reaches of Abitibi. Great stay. Food and accomo, outstanding! Left our rig there, will return in 8 days. We got out of Duhamel West early afternoon and buzzed up to VDO. Just checked-in at the Forestel. Will commence our loop with a spin up to Matagami tomorrow. It's snowed every day since we arrived here. All good. Great snow.

Hope to catch you next time. We're coming back up for 10 days at the end of the month.

  4. It's all good, David.

Prolly see you in the next few days................The Flying Potatoe Brothers have pulled the plug on our proposed cross country trip from Grand Mere, up thru the lowlands south of the river to the Gaspesie, around the Gaspesie across to Baie Commeau and back to Grand Mere. We were departing GM on Monday morning.

I am pleased to say that we are booked-in to La Bannick, arriving Sunday evening. We'll do a 10 day loop from there, to "somewhere" North, and back.

Hope you are still in residence when we arrive. Be great to see you again and catch up.

  5. Fingers and toes crossed here in Shawinigan. If need be we truck north.

We plan on riding out of Grand Mere on Monday the 8th. Our orig plan was to buzz down to TR, shuttle across, and ride to Lac Etchemin the first day. Cabano the next day, then on to Amqui. Prospects don't appear real bright for that route, at present. Shure would appreciate hearing how conditions shape up in the lower Maurice by the weekend.

  6. Krissy, Sabra and I just got back late last evening from 6 days at the Montagne Coupee.. We have done an early season "family trip" there the last 4 years. The Coupee is certainly one of the nicest "upscale" venues for riding in that part of Lenaudiere. Incredible hospitality and accommodations.

I first stayed at the Coupee over 10 years ago for one night on a loop trip that Krissy and i were making with another couple We were quite impressed. A year or two after that trip I heard that they had issues with theft of sleds and a vehicle. They instituted a number of provisions to increase their security thereafter and at present, I would say that the Coupee has among the most secure venues in Quebec. Their huge heated garage accommodates over 50 sleds, with access only in the company of a staff member. During the past 4 years we were fortunate enough to arrive early and not only were our sleds warm and snuggly, but we put our 4 sled enclosed trailer and my RAM, 2500 Mega Cab inside the heated garage, as well!

While I'm at it, I'll give a little update on conditions. The 341/349 was open to the Coupee and was in fair condition when we arrived. By the time we left yesterday, it was good. Riding north we rode the 341, 350, 23 & 63. We received a couple of inches of snow, each, on 3 of the 6 days we were there. Temps were down below zero F on each day. Daily highs were 7F to 19F.

The farther north we rode trails got increasingly better, and from ST-Damien on up, were great. Past Real Masse they were excellent. Only trails that were iffy were the St-Alphonse - St-Come sector. The last two days we rode the ice crossings were open in St-Jean. The 350 and 345 were just fine and groomed nearly every day. Farther west, Notre-Dame de la Merci and St-Donat trails were groomed and good.
