[Trail Conditions 2011]

We spoke with Bridget the owner of Lac Faillon. She said the gentleman is was speaking with is the new president of the snowmobile club. He is very active in the club and has made many changes, one of which is trail 83.

Thru the burn area, much of 83 now uses access roads instead of the old trail.

Monday morning we leave Lac Faillon continuing west on 83. We are excited to see the new 83 but I`m having flashbacks to the new 73. :unsure:

The 9 mile cul-de-sac back to 83 is fresh groomed. Oh boy. We hit 83 towards Senneterre and it is groomed. The first 10 miles or so are good and then we get back on the old road or logging trail or whatever. I don`t really care, this is wonderful. Most of the way to Senneterre is highway. This is great. Open it up.

At Senneterre, 83 is not as great. A little rough as we head down towards Val D`Or. We meet a groomer about 20 miles before Val D`Or. Much better but the snow is a little thin in spots.

If you haven`t been on 83 between Casey and Senneterre this year, you have to try it. We did hit it good with some of it fresh groomed but where the trail has been redesigned, it is fantastic.

The only really bad section we rode thru was in Wemotaci.

Tomorrow we are heading to Matagami. We`ll report back when we get to the next computer.

Does anyone have any recent updates on the conditions? I see Info Gaspe has most trails as "good". Is the southern shore passable on a multiple day saddle bag trip or not?

Any recent information would be very helpful and appreciated.

Has anybody been or know someone who has been to the region lately? I know they were down on snow, especially the south shore.

I am considering a trip to the region the first week of March.

I just received an e-mail this morning indicating that some parts of the north shore got dumped on last night.

Any "real" information would be helpful.
