  1. Thanks Iceman, you just saved me a trip from hell !!! My last trip started in St. Michel (1:00pm), straight up 33 to Kanawata (about 90 miles). From there we went to La Tuque. The whole purpose of this new trip is to show my friends the northern part of Region where the snow and conditions are usually better and I wanted to show them the Pipe Line under La Tuque.

Our new tip maybe something like this now, St. Michel east on 360 and stay at Auberg Riviere Mattawin the first night (I’ve done this run before and it worked out well).

Here’s my next question. In the morning head to the pipe line refuel in La Tuque and then retrack back down. Jump on 347 and take the river south and then west on 318 to possibly Sacacomie. Do you think this is more than 180 miles. The Pipe Line is a nice smooth 20 mile each way and the river is about 20 miles so there’s 60 miles of not so hard riding. I’m trying to consider the other two riders in my group, I could push 200+ miles but I would rather keep it under that with them.

    Thanks

  2. I usually go up to Canada just one weekend a year, two years ago I did Kanawata to La Tuque on a two up sled, about 240 miles. I was completely wiped out after it. This year I am going with 2 other couples and would to like to the same run but possibly shorten it up by 50 - 70 miles. My question is if I went to Wemotaci and then drove on the Saint Maurice river would that be an idea? It will be the about the 2nd or 3rd week of February. Or should I go to Windigo and then jump on the river. Looking at the map, I see a dotted line that travels down the river. Has anybody traveled on this section befor? Please, any advice would be appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Rick M

My girl I just got back from a good run Feb. 23® - 25(S). St. Michel to Kanawata (88 miles). Next day La Tuque (231 miles) and then back to St. Michel (157 miles) For the future, 231 was a little too much, maybe being on a two up sled, it wiped me out by the time I got to La Tuque. We saw some great stuff, just before the Relias 22, we came across a Canadian Lynx and after La Tuqe but before the pipe line we had Moose blocking the trail. Check out the video.

  5. I am thinking of doing a trip from St Zenon to the HS. How far is it from Zenon to Relais 22? It looks like I can do that in 1 day. Also on the return trip how far from the HS to La Tuque? Can I get there in about 4 hours or so? I aready know that I can get from La Tuque to Zenon in about 4 hours or so. I will only have 4 days to ride ride so I would like to ride 1 day out of the HS with Bill. But I will need to be able to make it all the way back in 1 day. If it is not possible I will have to make different plans. I was not going to do any bag trips at all but it looks like I may have 2 new Switchbacks in the trailer in about a week!

What does the HS stand for?

  6. Thanks for the confidence. Were renting two Ski-Doo 600 E-Tec's touring sleds from Location Haute Matawinie in St. Michel Des Saints. I'm figuring we'll stop for a soup & fuel at the "Repo" then up to "Kanawata". I just didn’t want to get the hotel too late, wanted to enjoy some evening time there. Do you think before 9PM? We are experienced sledders and don’t mind laying down some tracks.

  7. Hello everyone, looking for a little advise. Coming up February 23rd, leaving St. Michel at 1:00pm. I’m thinking of my final destination of “Kanawata” for that night. Could I make it to the “Repo” for my first fuel stop and what time to do think I would get to each of these locations? We will a group of two double sleds.
