Another one of my translate and paste updates from an AdmdQ article in the Quebec press. Think safety on every ride

The Association of Quebec Snowmobilers regrets since the beginning of season three snowmobile fatalities. The AdmdQ has compiled today its interim assessment of snowmobiling deaths in Quebec as we begin Week International Snowmobile Safety, which runs from January 16 to 22.

Snowmobilers who have died since the beginning of the season were all men aged over 56 years, the respective ages being 64, 66 and 57 years.

Caution on the ice

It is important to note that three deaths have been at a snowmobile off-trail, a statistic that is once again highlight the fact that traffic on the trails marked and maintained by snowmobile clubs, is still safer.

The three deaths occurred between 16 am and 22 am or after dusk. Of these three deaths, there are two that are a direct result of drowning, the other deaths being attributable to a loss of control.

The minimum thickness recommended to travel on the ice is 15 inches. It adds that it is important to contact the club to ensure the opening of trails and the safety of those that you borrow. The Association notes that drowning is the leading cause of death among snowmobilers each year.

2009-2010

Last year at this time, the number of snowmobilers who died was seven deaths, three were due to drowning. This number reflects an improvement that could however be explained, at least in part, by fewer snowmobiles have been able to move since the beginning of the season for lack of enough snow in many areas.

The AdmdQ broadcasts since last December on more than 48 radio stations on Quebec trail conditions. The opinions of caution with regard to traffic on the ice as well as many messages to remind snowmobilers safety rules are essential for the association

This year I've saved 10% at both Hotel Roquemont in St Raymond and Complex Pelchat in Escoumins. Don't forget to use your AdmdQ membership card to save on over 140 locations throughout Quebec.
