  1. Finally some common sense on this passport deal.
  2. This is nothing new...we have been asked several times in the past years to show proof of ownership by having a sled registered in the states while entering Quebec, but didn't realize you could be hit with a $200 fine....ouch... Its been harder also to leave a sled between trips up in Quebec having to pay a fee and fill out necessary paperwork if a u.s. citizen without property up there.
  3. I think they have two plants up there...the actual mill in the north end of town and a huge warehouse further south..been inside both for a tour years ago...quite amazing how much lumber gets processed. Its a shame... definetly going to hurt the local ecomony in that area. Seems the lumber industry throughout Quebec has been taking it on the chin.
  4. Yep...stopped in sunday at the show..kind of a waste of time...except for the vintage sled display the entire deal was a poor showing. I spoke to the nice lady at the LSJ booth also...said the same thing on some other questions i had....ask Bill..he's the man. As far as riding that area at Christmas...we have stayed the comfort inn and the hi years ago and have ridden out to mt. valin, but with the crazy seasons of late you never know.
  5. Pretty much the same here...i've been crossing the border at least once every year since 1970 whether to do fishing or snowmobling related stuff up there. I was never asked for a birth certificate or to know my plate number except when buying items at the Anex where they require it on check out. Only when returning to the states since post 911 they have been requiring a photo id driver license and enclosed trailer inspection if you have one. Entering Quebec...lately they have asked to see sled registrations to prove ownership. I think as long as one has no criminal past and has their stuff in order...should be no problems.
  6. Favorite trail??...too hard a question...let alone recall any bad ones.
  7. Oh..they are way beyond that...they now want to up the tax on everything and take away any tax credits.
  8. Exactly...nearly everytime for the last several years when entering canada..we we asked to show the sled registrations...told those same sleds better be coming back with us otherwise we had to show paperwork why.
  9. Well i guess it works both ways...i bought a polaris in quebec a few years back...when a voltage regulator and speedo cable failed in the sled...i couldn't get warranty coverage here in the states on it..had to bring it back to a quebec dealer in saint donat to fix it. Just bought a toyota tundra last year...soild truck..zero issues so far..have not needed any warranty claims on this one yet.
  10. You ask for strange...not sure about some places today, but many years ago when you went out to eat dinner, i found certain restaurants or bistros had two prices or two menus..one for american or euro tourists and one for locals. Had one of the guys in our group is originally from quebec..speaks fluent quebec french..He proceeded to introduced us in french...we were definetly given a different menu than the ones recieved from a past visit there. Pricing on all meals offered were lower than what we previously payed there in the past when we ordered in english.
  11. Yep...we have gotten delayed by bad weather, and mech. troubles during a few trips...i can't ever remember any of these guys not being able to serve you something for supper. With phone coverage in many areas now..its even a good idea to let them know ahead of time where you currently are..that you will arrive late for whatever reason.
  12. I can't really say anyone place is a favorite...all are good when you need a place for the night. If i could pick the worst experience of staying at a place...it'd be at the watel in saint agathe des months. Chef working there at the time needed an attitude adjustment.. big time.
