  1. since I assume your heading back to QUebec from Portland via route 201 I would go to Jackman and ride the moosehead loop from there one day and maybe over to Rangeley area the other day. It's a bit busy there on the weekends but it's nice trails up there and it's not too far from home fro you come the end fo thew weekend. ME sells a weekend pass for around $40.
  2. we were actually going to do more but there was an ice storm the first day of our trip that knocked a couple hundred miles off. My dad did 265 miles the last day coming back from Riviere du loup. MUst have been OK for him because he was going to come back last winter but with uncoperative snow it never happened. If I don't sell my spare sled this fall I'll get him to come up for another short saddlebag. Figure my parents were the ones who got me into riding when I was 5 or 6 so I can pay it back.
  3. i took my dad on an 800 mile saddlebag 2 years ago when he was 59, kept it to 50 or so for the most part, went from St Georges out towards Squatec and back. He lives in FL and had only ridden 1 x in 03 for 120 miles or so since the early 80's. GReat father son time.
  4. in think TrueBlue's group usually stays over at the Quebec Inn, just watch your vehicles there his group lost 1 or 2 trucks there last winter.
  5. thats what gets missed, BRP builds in C$ and so there still bringing in 13,000 C$ on their canadian sales but on a US sled they are only getting $9975 instead of the C$12,000 they budgeted for. With the US being the bigger market it's not a matter of lowering the Canadian prices but raising US prices but they can't do that when the 2 biggest competitors are building in the states. Only sled company making more off the Canadians is Cat and Poo who build in the US but instead of getting back $11,000 USD from a Canadian $13,000 sale they are getting C$13,300. Poo and Cat might be able to gain some market share in the states next year when Doo's forced to raise prices if the C$ stays up there.
  6. wouldn't want ot have been riding that in the trail conditions the day before coming back from L'Etape.
  7. we had a sled go down and rented from Evasion last winter, I think it was about $200/day, couldn't really shop around they were the only ones open sunday am.
  8. We were there a few days after that and you could finally ride from Stoneham through L'etape to the HI and up to Valin. Conditions weren't up to Quebec standards but they were OK. I'm hoping for early snow this year, would like to get a decent trip in before Christmas as with kids it's hard to get away that week.
  9. funny you asked this because I've been thinking about it myself with 5000 miles on my clutches, figure since I want to get a few other things done I'll have the dealer pull them as clutches is something I've never dealt with. I've held off on doing it because a XP800R Renegades been calling my name but I think I've talked myself into riding mine another year, still under warranty as well.
  10. they are required but I don't have them, had them on my 03 Legend but I really never could see that well out of them and don't like how they look. I use a hand mirror which doesn't meet the rule. I actually ordered Powermadd handguards with the mirrors for this winter although on saddlebag trips I'll probably go back to the summit shield and no mirrors.
  11. his name is Early Rider for a reason, even last year they went up the weekend before thanksgiving although the snow was pretty much wiped out. ER looking forward to a live report, we're coming up Friday after T-day and riding till Tuesday if mother nature cooperates this year
  12. that right there is part of the issue, even if they require states to go to the secure licenses like VT is moving towards how do you account for the states that give illegals theres. got my renewal done a few weeks back and saw on the website my wifes will be here beg of the week, better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it.
  13. they also need to show the antarctic ice which is growing, while I think we should take some common sense ideas to stop pollution etc the worlds always changing so I think we are really just there for the ride.
  14. I've had them ask if I was going to be coming back with the sleds, guess they want to make sure they are getting there taxes.
  15. Maine will not have you pay the sales tax at the dealer, they may have you sign something stating it will be reg'd and used out of state. Bunch of guys in Maine have had there used sleds head towards Canada this fall because of the exchange rate. I should probably think about doing that with mine.
  16. RAM mount like CKF shows, they are almost too hard to get out which is perfect for a sled tha takes some pounding, wire it to the sled and turn on the backlighting and it should be fine even in pretty cold temps. You have your choice of a couple of different arm lengths, the one in CKF's picture was actually mine which was too short for my sled with risers but perfect for his with normal bars.
  17. no trail pass needed just a valid QC registration(not a trail pass a registration).
  18. here's a couple from that area, one of the best rails runs from Cabano to Squatec
  19. unfortunately VT does not do a day pass although I thought I read this year they are going to have a week pass. NH is the same way with only a full season reg. This year our groups registering ME, NH and Quebec which will be nice so we can go out through the Pittsburg crossing up around Lac Megantic and back in through Coburn Gore.
  20. i was talking with a couple in Montmagny year before last who did it back when the exchange for under 70 cents and it was a deal, at 95 not so much.
  21. I have to say when I go away to ride I want to ride not watch the ballet or drink myself to sleep so I don't want to get up- 200-250 is what I plan.
  22. I keep my tunnel bag on at all times with all my emergency gear split between that and the seat pocket which on the Rev is pretty big. LCD batteryless flashlight, also keep a small battery powered one on the tether First Aid Kit Tow Rope Duct Tape TP Windproof lighter Tow Rope fuses siphon zip ties spare shield cord plus the wiring to wire in a new outlet which I have had to do on the side of the trail. spare pair of gloves chemical handwarmers also Quart of oil mounted on the clutchguard, spare relay in the fuse box, cable lock wrapped around the tunnel rack
  23. lightweight cabela poly socks cabelas polartec midweight long johns heavy weight polartec pants heavy or medium weight polartec shirt tek vest Klim goretex jacket- up 2 sizes from normal they run small cabela goretex thinsulate insulated bibs- best deal on goretex bibs i have found. castle X fusion boots great at cold temps and enough layers to drop on warmer days. I do carry a liner from my old arctiva jacket to put on if it gets real cold but have yet to use it down to 15 below or so. Tekvest does a great job keeping your core warm just wish they made snap on sleeves for it so you were evenly layered, arms can get a bit cold at times when you layer for the body.
  24. you do get the worst mileage I've seen for an SDI I was thinking it could be done for $150 day but you've pretty much hit on everything, guess I just didn't want to admit how much I spend when I go there. Add on the 75 cents a mile of depreciation on a sled and it's an expensive hobby. Maybe I'll just sell all my stuff then again maybe I'll see you in Nov in Quebec because it's worth every penny.
