    1. Hi Pipemaster

Do you mean Lake Manouane by Kanawata and then rejoin the 345 down to Repos?

    Andy

Sorry, yes 345 S down to Repos to 33 S. It was a nice run across the lake, saved a few miles. However the section that your bypassing on 345 is nice heading north coming into Kanawata.

  1. Do you have a gps track for the lake?

No I don't, from Mario's it's pretty much due south. You end up going through the woods for a little bit and back on 33S. There is a small pine tree stuck in the lake where you get off on the south end, like a Charlie Brown X-mas tree !
  2. Stopped for lunch at Lac Repos on Thurs on our way to Res. Gouin and it SUCKED. The soup was hardly warm and the HOT open chicken sandwich was ICE cold !! It never was My favorite place but now its DONE. We had an early lunch at Kanawata on our way back and it was great. If you don't need gas and or can wait to eat, you might as well push on to Kanawata. You can shoot across the lake and save 20K. Mario and Celine are sweethearts and really do a nice job, have stayed there a least 10 times.

  3. I have to agree with Markusvt on the GPS issue. I would not leave my doorstep without my GPS. I have been stopped in the middle of a blizzard in whiteout conditions and thanks to my GPS we have found our way as well as countless unmarked roads and intersections not to mention closed trails open rivers etc that we needed to find our way around. Oh yeah you can use it to tell people where you are when you are stranded in a blizzard as well! LOL

    Andy

Zumo 550,maps,compass,sense of direction and common sense is what I use. Has done me well in 15 + yrs in QC.

PS: Just picked up a new 2012 GSX 800,Ice Ripper track,GPS and outside carbides. Ready to roll, heading up on Sun for a week.

  4. Temps have fallen and things are firming back up. Was a rough few days but seems like things will bounce back for sure. The meltdown is over for now.

NICE !!on our way up on Sunday for a week, a couple of loops and a bit of saddle bagging, can't wait !!!!
  5. My vote is certianly for the 144". I have had two Arctic Cats with 144", however the last two winters I have been running a 137" 1200 Renegade. I believe after a long day of riding the 144" is better on an old back (we are about the same vintage), even on groomed trails.

That said the Yamaha fuel range is terrible with such a small tank. My Renegade I can easily go 120 miles with any worries, and have gone 140 miles and had 4 liters left. You appear to be a Yamaha fan so no slam intened at all, just a comparison.

I think your best bet would be the 144" and a pre-studded track (less wieght).

The pre-studded tracks are about all you need if riding in QC.,I have on 2 machines about 13000 miles combined and only one stud missing.Unless you ride real early or real late in the season these tracks really do the trick !

  6. Bill keep us posted on the grooming situation u was looking at heading back up in a few weeks

Sounds like the warm weather didn't affect the trails in your area

X2 planning on coming up on the 14th for a few days , please keep us posted. Thanks for the reports !! Dave

  7. My Nuvi 550 has worked at -36F, no issues. I would love the Wide Screen Zumo's, but 3X the price!

I am assuming it was the cold that was shuttting down the Nuvi's, but they both went down around the same time of day. My first Zumo was a gift for installing a heating boiler in My Brother-in-law's house. After that was stolen it was hard not to get the same GPS

  8. I have used a Garmin Zumo for the last 3-4 yrs and love it. It too is made for motorcycle use and is water/temp proof. I have used it in all Quebec conditions and never had any trouble. I have the Quebec trail maps loaded and it's sooooooooooo..nice !!!! Has a nice big touch screen, built in MP3 player and picture viewer via the SD card slot. I can be cruising down the trail listening to tunes while photo's of my loved ones scroll thru the slideshow. The unit's buttons were designed to work even with gloves on and for the most part that works great.

I couldnt agree more ! I have had the Zumo 450 and now the 550, ( 450 was stolen from truck in Montreal during pedal bike tour a few springs back )and it works awsome. Was up in Jan and the 2 Nuvo's in the group kept shutting down when it got real cold,no problems with the Zumo

  9. OK, I don't want to over whelm Junior at Club Scott . But I bought this apparently very luck charm off the wall from Junior wife @ 9K. Been riding with it ever since :good:. Its not oil because Ive used every flavor youve ever seen on a shelf. Mostly regular Castrol. Motor always has had 147lb compression. I also add some isoflex grease to the crank seal last yr. Any engineers at Skidoo, feel free to send me a PM, if you want to see the internals for R+D......... :D P.S. Ive run this thing very hard...... :drinks:

Holy Sh*t !! I bought 2 Bobcat tails from Club Scott a few years back. One on "06 600 SDI and "04 800 HO, NO problems since !! The 600 has 5500 Mi and zero problems with motor

  10. Thanks i was looking at the nuvi 500 and zumo 550

How do these older units compare what is the benignity to them over the new units?

    Thanks again

    Bob

I have the Zumo 550 ( I had the Zumo 450 until it was stolen from my truck in Montreal while there for a bicycle tour )and it works GREAT. We were up last week and the 2 Nuvi's kept shutting down due to the cold, not the Zumo ! I have the Trak maps and works great

  11. I will reserve in the next day or two. Which way did you go from Masse? I will be leaving from the Cabanon and estimated that it was around 200 miles from there.

We did'nt go directly there, thats how we came up with 270 Miles. Actually just shy of 270, GREAT ride !!!

  12. Would I have to make reservations there? I am thinking of running up there for a night and want to make sure. Really sounds like a nice place!

Yea you need reservations for sure if you want to be in lodge, only a few rooms. The do have cabins, don't know how many. Was there twice last Jan and last thursday with 7 guys, cool place to stay. It was real cold and LOTS of snow last week. We rode from Real Masse and it was about 270 Miles and real nice!!

  13. Thanks for the map. That is pretty close to the milage everyone was giviing me. I will have to do something a litte different, that last day from the HS back to Zenon looks to be about 360 miles or so. This map also shows the trail up to Kanawata coming out about 20 south of Repo just like last year.

Trail from Repo to Kanawata leaves right from Repo like a few years back. Just got home an hour ago form St Zenon

  14. Good conditions and very snowy

    DSC00299.jpg

Back at the trailer with 130 miles on the dream meter, not a big ride for us but a nice one.

To conclude, it’s still a season beginning but I have been nicely surprised how good it was considering trails just opened and we got a couple warm day just before, in the holiday traffic. You may encounter some rocks or dirty spots but all in all it is good. Hoping the cold we have now keep on (high minus 15C today), the groomers will have the conditions to shape good trails and finished the trails opening that was not completed yet. They begin to open trails a bit souther like St-Gabriel de Brandon/ St-Jean de Matha but there’s not enough snow yet to give good conditions there. On the other side, north from Taureau Reservoir like Repos trail have been reported good conditions.

Can’t wait to the next week end…

    Bye :drinks:

    Alain

Alaine, you are a GREAT help with you'r pics and reports ! We are going to be at Real' Masse on the 15 th for a week and thing s look better than expected !!

    Thanks ,Pipemaster
